Hmmmmm......

Still my favorite pick. Beats estimates with +20%. Revenue up with +30%. Great addition to the senior management and continued focus on their nano technology.

Don't be surprised if it drops like a stone tomorrow (these days great earnings seems to have a negative impact on the share price ::)) but fundamentals will be reflected in the stock price sooner or later and this stock has some phenomenal fundamentals!

Your reasons are great!  Good work.  I guess I needed the break out to wake me up.
With the added exposure IBD is giving it, I think this will finally get noticed.

Once it breaks 15 and makes the Top 100 list, it will start taking off.

Bentley Pharmaceuticals (BNT), announces that it has signed a product licensing agreement with Biocon Limited for Bentley's intranasal spray formulation for administering insulin. The license agreement covers 85 countries granting Biocon exclusive as well as co-exclusive rights to develop and market Bentley's formulation throughout Asia, Africa, and the Middle East...

Thanks snowcat!

Investing is one of the most entertaining hobbies you can have. It is sometimes funny to see how the market reacts to news. BNT with a market cap of 325 million issues a press release that they are entering a $5 billion market and we get a 3.75% increase in the share price.

Hmmmmmm....  as said before this stock has a looooooong way to go. IBD100 is a step on the way more importantly they need Analyst coverage. Nobody is aware of the gems that BNT is hidding.

Now the good news is that it is only a matter of time so sit back and enjoy

12:55  BNT New High Profile: Bentley Pharm (15.90 +1.02)

BNT hit a new 52-week high today, extending the past 3 weeks' impressive move higher following Q3 earnings. The co specializes in the development of products based on innovative and proprietary drug delivery systems, as well as manufactures, markets and distributes pharmaceutical products through its European operating subsidiary. The Co owns rights to certain U.S./international patents and related technology for enhancing the absorption of a wide range of drugs delivered to biological tissues. This Monday, BNT signed a product licensing agreement for 85 countries with a large Indian insulin producer, Biocon Ltd, for BNT's insulin-administering nasal spray. BNT recently announced Q3 EPS of $0.11, $0.02 better than consensus, on revenues that grew 30% YoY to $23.5 mln, slightly ahead of the $23.4 mln consensus. BNT, which has been known for receiving much of its revenues in Spain, has also shown it can diversify it sales demographic, with 32% total Q3 revenues coming from outside of Spain, compared to approximately 18% of revenues in Q304. BNT, which has an 8.3% short interest position, very minimal debt and a $355 mln market cap.

Hi Snowcat

I guess we can't really complain about the reaction to the insulin news. In fact this is turning out to be a very nice investment up 60% since mentioned the first time. I however is still disappointed. The oral insulin story is huge but this is only part of the story BNT's nano technology is going to revolutionize the pharmaceutical industry. I found a post on the Yahoo message board that gives a good overview of the potential. So instead of using the evening writing please allow me to quote:

QuoteBentley's nanotech, even if mildly successful, will be in the valued in the billions of dollars. The Bentley nanotech story is much bigger than most can imagine.

Bentley's nanotech can work with small molecules, proteins, peptides, oligonucleotides(DNA, RNA, antisense RNA).

Bentley's nanotech is the epitome of "disruptive" technology. Basically, the nanotech can take injectables and turn them into orals and that is just for starters. Literally, $50 billion worth of injectables will be able to be taken orally. And the proof of principle has been demonstarted.

Oral insulin alone would be worth at least $5 billion.

DNA, RNA therapy is the future of medicine and BNT has the ideal delivery mode.

Cancer compounds will now be able to get directly to the cancer cells and BNT's nanocaplets will be able deliver significant payloads AND the material is biodegradable, scalable and inexpensive to manufacture.

If just one publication does a story on Bentley's nanotech ......just one story.....yikes. BNT would be up $10 in a day.

It is the BIGGEST story EVER in drug delivery and one of the biggest scientific discoveries of the last 100 years.

It is a bit over the top but the essence is still true. BNT has the most promising nano technology in the market today.

That they are also very profitable doesn't hurt though!

Made the IBD 100 at #19.  Great exposure!

My figures don't even include the nano- stuff.  When the market likes nano again, this will be huge.  But right now, as the company stands, it should continue upward.

The posting you quoted will just be part of the catalyst that sends this further skyward.  As it stated, the potential is amazing!  And I can see a company like this being featured in an IBD article.  The good news will continue...........

Bentley Pharmaceuticals Gets Approval to Market Drug
Posted 2:57 PM
Bentley Pharmaceuticals (BNT: sentiment, chart, options) has both a domestic and international presence. In the US, the company develops drug-delivery systems, but nearly all of the company's revenues are generated by its Spanish subsidiaries, Laboratorios Belmac and Laboratorios Davur, which make and sell branded and generic pharmaceuticals in Spain and throughout Europe. Their products target four therapeutic categories: cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, neurological, and infectious diseases. The stock is one of the biggest gainers on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) today after the company said its newly formed Irish unit received approval from the Irish Medicines Board to market a generic drug for acid-linked gastrointestinal disorders in Ireland. BNT is up more than nine percent to 17.37 on the news. While the stock is a far cry from its 1992 all-time of 210.00, today's rally has the stock nudging toward its 2003 11-year high of 18.80. Short interest on the stock is just over 1.5 million shares. At an average daily stock volume of nearly 72,000, that generates a short-interest ratio of more than 21 days. That makes BNT one of the most heavily shorted stocks in the market by that measure. Its short interest as a percentage of the stock's float stands at a hefty 8.5 percent.

Breaking News on Pharmaceutical Technology
Spray insulin war heats up
30/11/2005- Bentley has accelerated the path to launching its novel intranasal spray insulin, signing a license agreement with India's Biocon to develop and market the product in 85 countries throughout Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.
Biocon will also produce the insulin that is used in Bentley's novel product and the two companies have already been working together for several years on this project.
Bentley already entered into a similar licensing agreement in April this year with Dong Sung Pharmaceuticals for the South Korean market, where they have since been making plans to place a regulatory filing for the product there.
This is another in a series of non-injectable insulin products that has blockbuster potential and works by the insulin particles being inhaled through the nose, which are then absorbed by the nasal mucous membrane.
Non-injectable insulin will revolutionise the lives of countless diabetics and improve diabetes control, as the idea of injection deters many sufferers from taking the insulin they need.
Current estimates put the number of people with diabetes worldwide at nearly 180 million, a number which is expected to jump to 300 million in the next 20 years, and analysts predict that that first non-injectable insulin to reach major world markets stands to achieve sales upwards of $1.5 billion (€1.28 billion) a year.
For years, the big pharmaceutical companies have been racing to develop a marketable non-injectable insulin product. A range of such products are soon set to explode on to the market, ensuring a range of choice for consumers and a bitter grapple for market share.
A number of pulmonary inhaled products are already in late-stage trials and one, Pfizer and Sanofi-Aventis' Exubera, has just been given US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval.
However, fear of side effects seen with these inhaled products – the result of lung function testing in animals – could limit the use of these products and leave room for other delivery approaches.
Small player Generex has recently launched its novel oral (buccal) insulin spray product, Oral-lyn, in South America, however, its launch on the lucrative US and EU markets could be years away as larger Phase III trials have not yet begun.
Bentley appears to have taken a similar approach to Generex, by launching its product first on less regulated markets before coming back to tackle the EU and US.
"We chose to work in India because Biocon is one of the world's largest producers of insulin and can provide us with a ready source of the insulin that is used in our product that is already approved in India and Asia," James Murphy, Bentley's chairman and CEO, told In-PharmaTechnologist.com.
"The company is currently in discussions with regulatory authorities and potential licensing partners in EU and US," he said.
At this stage the company has no plans to move into South America, and compete head to head with Generex's buccal delivery product.
Scientists have known for years that the intranasal route of administration of therapeutic agents was a highly efficient route, but success in this route of administration has been difficult due to low delivery payload, poor reproducibility and/or mucosal irritation.
"We have successfully developed an intranasal product that is more bioavailable than both the pulmonary inhaled and buccal insulin products coming on to market," said Murphy.
"Initial studies have shown that our product has a bioabsorption of 20 per cent compared with only 6–8 per cent for pulmonary inhaled insulin – that is a 3–4 times greater bioabsorption," he said.
The company also expects its product to be cheaper compared to other non-injectable insulins, as it requires less insulin delivery. Because of this it will also be a more compact product, measuring 2.5 inches compared to other inhaled products that measure about 8 inches, said Murphy.
"We believe we can be very competitive in this market," he said.
However, Phase III trials will only begin after initial characterisation trials have been completed in early 2006.
These trials will be conducted in India and the company hopes the product will be available on the market there shortly after the trials are completed.

Investor's Business Daily
Generic Drug Firm Looks Beyond Core Market For Future Growth
Wednesday December 7, 7:00 pm ET
By Marilyn Much

When Bentley Pharmaceuticals got stung by price cuts in its key market last year, Chief Executive James Murphy was forced to go back to the drawing board.
Bentley (NYSE:BNT - News) is a specialty drug delivery company. It manufactures generics that are marketed and distributed throughout Europe.
The company gets the bulk of its revenue selling self-marketed generics in Spain. Though business in Spain has been growing rapidly, Bentley has run into some problems there.
In October 2003, the Spanish government enacted a regulation that reduced the prices the government reimburses for certain prescription drugs.
The regulation, which went into effect two months later, impacted six of Bentley's drugs sold in Spain.
One was generic omeprazole, a heartburn drug sold by Procter & Gamble (NYSE:PG - News) under the Prilosec brand name.
Murphy figures the price cuts impacted 2004 pretax profit by about $14 million. Bentley's year-over-year revenue growth slowed to 13% in 2004, down from a 65% increase the prior year. 2004 earnings per share fell 7%.
In a country like Spain, where there's socialized health care, Bentley could get hit by more reductions in the future, Murphy says.
To counter the problem, Bentley execs decided to reduce the firm's reliance on Spain, which in 2003 accounted for more than 85% of overall revenue.
"In 2003, we recognized it was time to move out beyond the borders of Spain ... into the European Union and geographical Europe," said Murphy.
"We started an intense (drive) to register products and team up with major companies in those territories. We still feel Spain will grow significantly for us, though it will become a diminishing part of our overall growth."
By 2005, Bentley had inked 150 licensing and supply agreements with major generic companies to distribute products outside of Spain.
In the third quarter, 32% of overall company sales came from collaborations with pharmaceutical companies outside of Spain. That was up from 18% a year earlier.
In November, Bentley's Spanish unit, Laboratorios Davur, signed a distribution pact with Consilient Health, an Irish-based pan-European generic company.
The accord gives Consilient a nonexclusive right to distribute and market a Davur generic omeprazole in the U.K.
Look for more collaborations outside of Spain in the next few weeks.
"The company has done a good job of going beyond the borders of Spain and setting up distribution agreements throughout Europe," said analyst Mark Taylor of Roth Capital Partners. "The export business is up, but not as high as I anticipated. (Still), it's growing, and that's a plus."
The generic drug field is more competitive than ever, Taylor says. Successful companies will be those that knock off some of the blockbuster drugs that will come off patent over the next couple of years -- and do so at the lowest prices.
"Bentley's ability to succeed outside of Spain is dependent on being the first to come to market with a lot of those generic drugs," Taylor said. "That's ... what we're hoping will occur."
On the drug delivery front, Bentley has recently come up with some important breakthroughs. In April, the firm inked a deal with Dong Sung Pharm Corp. to develop an intranasal spray formulation of insulin for the South Korean market and possibly other territories.
In June, Bentley presented results of its initial phase two study in patients with type one diabetes. Among other things, Bentley's formulation showed more rapid absorption than an insulin injection, the company says.
Last month Bentley signed a licensing pact with Biocon for the intranasal spray formulation of insulin.
The accord covers 85 countries giving Biocon exclusive as well as co-exclusive rights to develop and market Bentley's formulation throughout Asia, Africa and the Middle East.
Also on the drug delivery front, Bentley and the University of New Hampshire in May announced the discovery and synthesis of Nanocaplet technology. The Nanocaplet, which is the diameter of a human hair, can be used to deliver drugs at the molecular level.
Bentley has exclusive rights to develop this technology, which is being tested in animals.
This method enhances the delivery of drugs that are difficult to absorb, such as insulin, Murphy says.
Bentley is doing well financially. Its third-quarter earnings rose 83% from the prior year to 11 cents a share. Revenue was up 30% to $23.5 million.
Analysts polled by First Call see full-year earnings rising 77% to 46 cents a share, then reaching 56 cents in 2006.

Bentley's outlook hinges in part on its ability to export products made in Spain into other markets such as the U.S., Taylor says.
"The most critical growth catalyst over the next two years has got to be the development of a U.S. business," Taylor said.

One partnership that holds potential is one Bentley struck with Perrigo (NasdaqNM:PRGO - News), a major U.S. maker of over-the-counter pharmaceutical and nutritional products for the store-brand market.
Last year Perrigo agreed to co-develop, market and sell certain Bentley products in the U.S. and other potential markets.
Bentley likely will team up with another major player in the U.S. to market other products, Murphy says. The company also seeks Food and Drug Administration approval to launch U.S. sales of select generic products it produces in Europe.

yahoo quotation for 2006:
Re: IBD pattern?
by: michael1600penn    12/09/05 09:18 pm
Msg: 12016 of 12021

$1 in EPS for 2006 is completely in the cards. I have read a few of your messages and I think you look for the analysts for guidance. The analysts don't seem to understand what is unfolding.

BNT will do over 0.50 this year. Just about 100% EPS growth over 2005.

BNT will do $150 million in sales for 2006. This sales amounts to $1+ in EPS. Do you understand>>>> lansoprazole is coming off patent THIS month in the EU. BNT will do over $25 million in lansoprazole in 2006.
I will say it again>>>>BNT will do over $25 million in lansopraxole in the EU for 2006. The analysts DO NOT have this in their models.
Lansoprazole is coming off patent THIS month in the EU. THIS MONTH>>>>>DO YOU GET IT!
The other $25 million comes from the US entry through Perrigo, the expansion throughout the EU of other BNT products, growth in Spain, and growth of Testim.
Screw the nano and drug delivery if you like. You couldn't tell me the difference between a nanoparticle and nanocaplet anyway. Why would you understand the value of BNT's technology. Give it zero value if you like. The analysts have NEVER EVER mentioned BNT's intranasal insulin program. NEVER EVER have the analysts given the insulin ANY value.
BNT has grown 60% CAGR for four years. It will be 100% for 2005 to 2006.
Lansoprazole is the third biggest branded product on the market with over $4 billion in sales. BNT makes the generic. BNT makes it cheaper than the competition and BNT's lansoprazole has product advantages over the competition.
BNT will bring in over $100 million for lansoprazole in 2007.
New analyts coverage will come one of these days and with it will come EPS guidance in the 0.80-$1 range for 2006 along with value given to the nanotech and intranasal insulin.
Then all the non-analytic types will have some reason to believe $1 is in the cards for 2006 EPS.

Hi Oliver,

Indeed a very bad timing for this downgrad. I guess the analyst is not following the stock too closely  ;)

BNT is a strange animal. you can value them as a generic pharmaceutical company or a biotech company. As a Biotech company they still have a long way to go. They are ahead of several major pharmaceuticals on key technologies like intranasal sprayes and nano technology.

I guess that Raymond valuate them as a generic company and consider the biotech as hype. Well I think they are bloody wrong so I am going to hold BNT for the long run and might add if they fall further.

Even if they were only a generic company their growth would justify higher PE levels than today but with their pipeline this is really a steal at todays level.
