Bentley Pharmaceuticals' Generic Simvastatin Approved for U.S. Market
Thursday December 21, 4:30 pm ET

EXETER, N.H.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Bentley Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NYSE: BNT - News), a specialty pharmaceutical company, announced today that its U.S. marketing partner, Perrigo Company, has received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to market generic simvastatin 5 mg, 10 mg, 20 mg, 40 mg and 80 mg tablets in the U.S. The FDA has determined that these formulations, which will be manufactured at Bentley's facilities in Spain, are bioequivalent and have the same therapeutic effect as that of the reference drug, Zocor® (Merck & Co.), whose patent expired on June 23, 2006 and 180-day exclusivity period expired on December 19, 2006.

The FDA also completed its evaluation and approval of the Bentley manufacturing facility for the production and supply of simvastatin for the U.S. market. In anticipation of this approval, Bentley has already commenced the manufacturing of simvastatin tablets to allow for immediate distribution in the U.S. There can be no assurance of what the sales levels or pricing will be upon formation of the market for generic simvastatin.

"We are pleased with the FDA's approval of our facility to manufacture our first generic drug for distribution in the U.S. market," said John A. Sedor, president of Bentley Pharmaceuticals. "This approval marks an important strategic milestone for Bentley."

Oliver,

The Bearish Wedge target of 8.78 MADE within four cents (low was 8.82), so you've now got a nice chance at a decent five-month base for a "W"-Bottom.  (the left leg is the July low of 8.78; the right leg is Wednesday's low of 8.82).

If BNT can go up and take out the middle of the "W" (pivot), which is the 13.07 high of September 20, that would put a target of 17.32 IN PLAY.

Math:

13.07 - High of the "W"

8.82 - (I use the more conservative of the 8.78 and 8.82 lows)

13.07 - 8.82 = 4.25 points + breakout above 13.07 = Target: 17.32.

Interestingly, that would put BNT back near the high of the March 9 earnings crash, which was 17.50.

You and I were too early making a play back to resistance on the skimpy Inverse H&S (pattern in blue) back in April.  This possible "W" bottom (pattern in green) is a much better base (it's broader in width), so this now might be a nice marriage between the good news on the fundamental front, and a stronger pattern to support the fundamentals.

The risk from here on a stop out below 8.78 is about 11%.

The reward if the "W"-Bottom breaks out, and 17.32 gets MADE is about 78%.

Risk:reward is roughly 1:7 on a long-term play for the target.

This is a VERY subjective comment on my part, and I really shouldn't make it, but remember how VPHM crashed from 15.55-15.56 in The St. Paddy's Day Massacre, and how it "looked like" VPHM wanted to "return to the scene?" (And, did).

We could have something similar in BNT, with it "returning to the scene" of its March 9 crash high (17.50) with a target of 17.32 IN PLAY on a breakout, with anything decent in the fundamentals in 2007.

Again, that's subjective on my part, but who knows, huh?  ;)  :D

Any input appreciated.

BNT update (Michael, your opinion?)

Bentley Sees Tuesday Gains on

Plans to Reorganize Business Operations Bentley Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (BNT) was higher on Tuesday after announcing plans to spin-off its drug delivery business to separate its
two businesses, and to explore strategic alternatives with respect to its generics business.

"The Board believes that by separating Bentley into two focused and better understood companies, the opportunities for both the drug delivery business and the generics pharmaceutical business could be substantially enhanced and greater value could be
created than under the current structure. The separation will enable the two businesses to compete more effectively in their respective markets," said James R. Murphy, Chairman and CEO.
Bentley plans to spin off the drug delivery business as an independent, publicly traded company to be known as CPEX Pharmaceuticals, Inc. It will implement the spin-off through a taxable stock dividend of all CPEX Pharmaceuticals common stock to Bentley shareholders. The CPE-215(R) Permeation Enhancement Technology is Bentley's patented drug delivery technology.
The CPE-215 technology enhances the absorption of drugs across a variety of biological membranes, including the skin, mouth, nose and eye. Bentley is working to adapt the technology to products formulated as creams, ointments, gels, solutions, lotions, sprays or patches.
The Company's pharmaceutical product sales and licensing activities are based primarily in Spain, where it has a commercial presence and manufactures and markets approximately 180 products (generic and branded), through three wholly-owned Spanish subsidiaries. The majority of the products are subject to price controls set in place by the Spanish government. The goverment has also reduced the amount it will reimburse for pharmaceutical products. These reimbursement rates went into effect in March 2007 and has impacted results. The Company's generic business in Spain saw a double digit percentage reduction in pricing, for the quarter ended June 30, 2007. Aggressive price reductions on certain products has yielded some increases in volume but overall market share was unchanged.

Teva buys NYSE-traded generic drug co: Bentley Pharmaceuticals sells its products primarily in Spain.
Monday , March 31, 2008 15:37ET

Mar 31, 2008 (Globes - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Nasdaq: TEVA; TASE: TEVA will buy New York Stock Exchange-traded Bentley Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NYSE: BNT). The companies announced today that they had entered into a definitive agreement on the deal. The deal is the second acquisition for Teva in recent months. In January, it bought private biopharmaceutical company CoGenesys for $400 million.

The acquisition price of about $15.02 per share represents a premium of 9.3 percent over Bentley's closing price on Friday of $13.74. Before the acquisition, Bentley will also spin-off its drug delivery business -- as CPEX Pharmaceuticals, Inc. -- to its shareholders.. The actual price paid per share by Teva will depend on the value of CPEX shares distributed Teva will essentially buy the remaining generic pharmaceutical operations for approximately $360 million in cash.

Exeter, New Hampshire-based Bentley primarily markets its products in Spain. It also sells generic pharmaceuticals in other European Union countries, and has medicine and active pharmaceutical ingredient manufacturing facilities in Europe as well.

Bentley manufactures and markets a portfolio of approximately 130 pharmaceutical products in various dosages and strengths, as both branded generic and generic products, to physicians, pharmacists and hospitals. Bentley's generic pharmaceutical operations generated revenues of approximately $114 in 2007.

Teva president and CEO Shlomo Yanai noted, "This is an important acquisition for Teva, as the combination of Teva Spain and Bentley will provide us with a platform to capture a leading position in the fast-growing Spanish generic pharmaceutical market. Spain was identified as one of our target markets in the strategic review we conducted last year."

Bentley chairman and CEO James R. Murphy said, "By separately selling Bentley's generic operations while spinning off its drug delivery business, we believe that we are maximizing shareholder value".

Petah Tikva-based Teva is currently the fourth largest generic company in Spain in the hospital market. Teva initially established a presence in Spain in 2004. Since then, TEVA Genericos Espanola, S.L. has introduced more than 60 products targeted both to hospitals and pharmacies.. Teva, through the combination of its existing operations in Spain and Bentley's operations, will offer the Spanish market over 170 products (in approximately 465 presentations) and will have over 45 products pending generic product registrations. Teva expects that the acquisition of Bentley's generic pharmaceutical operations will become accretive within 12 months of closing.
