I thought INTC would bottom out around 22, so I bought it there, but unfortunately it's been getting hit pretty roughly since it's "Overselling".  I definitely believe that it can swing back, and it probably will, it just may take awhile getting there because of recent news and setbacks.

INTC not long ago broke its 14-year trend line so in most cases not such a good place to buy. Of course for a quick scalp one can buy at any point for a bounce but I prefer to buy ones going up or at a trend line bounce not break down.

We may still have some more rally left but the NASDAQ is weak and it is close to a 4-year market cycle top. If it plays out like usual then we will top out in here and drop until Oct-Nov. Then if lucky get one more rally which could put in a final bull market top if this one is not it.

As for YHOO I would wait and see what happens when it get the the 200-day EMA at about $28.50 as that is also a 38% retrace and it may bounce there. If not then 24 and 19 are other  supports as chart shows. It may be more clear by the time it gets to the 200-day.

Both of the stocks could probably be shorted with stops above their broken trend lines but thinking there still may be one more market rally this month I am not shorting anything except day trades.

Hi guys, i think the large institutional sellers are about done selling the stocks since for the past 3days, the volume has been pretty consistent and price has been quite stable.

for intc:

since the above chart will change w/ each market day, i'm talking about feb 6, 7,8

so
                    Open    High     Low     Close    Volume
8-Feb-06    20.83    20.84    20.54    20.69    77,626,359
7-Feb-06    20.62    20.94    20.52    20.67    95,298,200
6-Feb-06    20.85    20.85    20.50    20.61    66,858,200

i dont want to pull up all the numbers but basically i think the market has finished factoring in the recent bad news, so basically the stock is no longer as volatile and dangerous as last week. however, the direction of the stock price now depends on any new company headlines or the condition of the whole market.

technically, there should be a pull back soon ;x

anyways gl and let me know what u think@!

A month has passed since my last post on this stock.  Wow, can any stock have more negative attention?  Not even GOOG...  9 of the last 10 analyst opinions has been a downgrades...  O what!!  Lower revenue guidance??  Tell the market something that we don't know and expect.  P/E at 14.5, P/B at 3.35, 12.77B in cash, Dividend yield at 2%.  What do you guys think?

I have been observing Intel for a few months, but somehow I feel it didn't find its supporting line or its bottom and that's why the chart hasn't been moving very strong. As probably everybody knows, intel is providing Apple with chips as well and I was assuming that this partnership will boost up the value of the stock traded !!? While many other companies have seen an increase of their paper, intel's 1 year return was -12.95%. I was hoping if anybody know what might be the reason for the sideward movement of intel. I am new on 3sof and really enjoy reading posts and topics. Thanks everybody and have a nice weekend :)

FYI -- Wall Street Analyst Quotes about AMD vs. Woodcrest/Core.

(Note: At its analyst mtg. yesterday, AMD put up foils showing Woodcrest at a 28% power disadvantage relative to Opteron based on questionable analysis -- strong support from the server team allowed us to mount a Blackberry campaign to educate analysts as they prepared their reports. While many analysts have good things to say about AMD, their attempts vs. Woodcrest / Core have been impacted. For some reason, their stock is down 3% -- not what one hopes for after such an event.)

Joe Osha, Merrill Lynch

Overall, it's hard to criticize anything that AMD is doing, and if we were in management's shoes we would be doing the same thing that AMD is. The problem is that Intel is no longer asleep at the switch, and is getting ready to offer products that compete effectively with AMD across most of AMD's lineup. It's not clear to us that AMD is equipped to withstand that competitive pressure without seeing financial performance deteriorate. We reiterate our sell rating.

David Wu, Global Crown Capital: "Lies, Damn Lies, and ..."

We were perplexed by AMD's performance-per-watt leadership claim as 1) AMD deliberately compared its Opteron to Paxville (soon-to-be 2 generations old) and avoided Intel's extremely competitive Woodcrest processor that will be launched in a few weeks; 2) AMD again decreased Opteron's total system power consumption by ignoring North Bridge components and increased Woodcrest's by doubling the number of memory slots (16 FB-DIMMs instead of a typical 8 FB-DIMMs for DP). According to trusted 3rd party reviews, Woodcrest DP system consumes roughly 20% less power and outperforms at least 20% at the same time .... The new platforms that AMD announced (4x4, Torrenza, Trinity, and Raiden) do not have firm delivery dates .... Our investment thesis is that Intel will recapture market shares in volume server and the desktop markets from new product launches in Jun06/Jul06 and should have product superiority for at least 4 quarters. We recommend buying the stock before market share shifting significantly in INTC's favor starting 3QCY06. Roadmap comparison: AMD will not have competitive microprocessors in the desktop, DP server and the workstation markets until their first quad core processor Deerhound in 2HCY07.

Hans Mosesmann, Moors & Cabot

Rather than comment on various benchmarks Intel has released based on real world applications (where Woodcrest has a 13% - 18% edge in power), AMD preferred to compare Projected (theoretical) Platform Power Consumption using maximum power specs in the calculations, which we dare say is ripe for debate. In AMD's example, Opteron trounces Woodcrest by some 28% less power though in reality we don't believe all system components would run at max power simultaneously. As an example, the memory subsystem would not be running at max power when the CPU is running at max power. AMD failed to include the power used by a PCIe bridge and doubled the content of the Intel system memory (above average configurations). We are sure that critical observers can also make the same arguments on configurations of both systems to prove their side of the argument; our point is that to make the case in the performance/watt discussion, why not put a real AMD Opteron system vs. a real Intel Woodcrest system and prove the point. Or at least make the case that last week's benchmarks from Intel are suspect in some way or fashion. In summary, the real world comparison of these server systems would not only be intellectually more powerful in proving a point, it also would limit observers, such as ourselves, who are starting to get a sense that AMD has been caught flat footed on how to position its product line to Intel's Core.

AMD WILL NOT BE ABLE TO STAY A HEAD OF INTC FOR LONG. AMD IS GOING DoWN...GO INTC

I read and bought into INTC a week ago. As i expected INTC is finally waking up. AMD is down for the second day on a row while intc is up. THe tide is shifting. INTC BACK TO $25.

Will be interesting to see what happens with intel over the next little while with the introduction of Core 2 the replacement for the Pentium chip. So far all great reviews. Intel reports tomorrow so it shall be interesting to see their growth outlook. Good luck to any holders if indeed there are any here.

Intel's Core 2 Duo Unanimously Praised, Gives Intel Performance Crown
Category: Industry Buzz - July 18, 2006
By David Walker

It's been quite a while since anyone has been able to say this, but Intel is now the performance king in the consumer market - taking the lead from the long-standing leader AMD. Intel's new Core 2 Duo lineup has not only wrestled away the performance crown, but according to CNET, praise for the new chips has been unanimous. Topping AMD's fastest processors by over 20% in some tests, even the mid-range Intel Core 2 Duo chips (the E6700 and E6600) outperformed AMD's FX-62 chip in several benchmarks. The Intel Core 2 Duo Extreme - a chip geared towards the enthusiast and hardcore gamer market - easily leaves behind AMD's top offerings.

Intel's surge to performance supremacy is also coupled with a significant change in thermodynamics. In the past, Intel's Pentium 4 and Pentium D chips were characterized by their extremely high temperatures and equally appalling wattage requirements. The Intel Core 2 Duo changes that trend as well, and according to ZDNet, Intel didn't just improve - it has bested AMD and by a wide margin. AMD, not being blind to having lost the performance crown, has responded by saying that they will soon cut prices on their high-end X2 processors to remain the better pricing bargain against Intel's new processor series. Now that Intel is back in the game, computer users can look forward to the price cuts and increased performance that AMD and Intel will no doubt engage in over the next few years.

Intel has taken a lot of heat over the last couple of years as AMD has taken over a vast amount of their desktop market, a place they could not be touched in previous times, and this has hurt Intel more than they will ever admit. AMD actually beat them at their own game, changed the way they name and design CPUs, and released their FX brand, which out performed the Intel solution almost across the board. The AMD FX62 was the fastest Dual-Core CPU on the market until this release and it makes me proud of AMD for finally getting their act together as a major force in the Industry.

Intel on the other hand has soured me with a few CPUs that ran so hot that nothing short of a liquid cooling system could keep them from massively overheating and shutting down my PC. This area alone is a strange turn of events as AMD traditionally was the guy who had the hot CPUs, but until Conroe, AMD has had the cooler running CPUs as Intel's high-end Pressler's ran at least 20 Celsius hotter than a comparable FX CPU. This is really the main reason I think Intel has taken such a hit in the desktop retail market. Let's just face it heat is the enemy, and when your CPU is so hot that standard cooling becomes beyond obsolete there is a big problem to the enthusiasts user base. I mean c'mon out of the box temps running at 55-59 C is one hot CPU.

I believe those days are over with the release of the Conroe series as their new CPUs run at a lovely 25 Celsius running under a full load, which is actually lower than a human's body temperature of 98.6 Fahrenheit. The new FX62 runs at about 32-35 C using stock cooling, that although not too hot is still hotter than the new breed of Conroe's by a small margin. From what we have seen of Conroe so far, Intel is ready to kick ass and take names again in the CPU arena and offer no apologies. Today we take a look at two of the top end offerings in the new Core 2 and Duo lineup, the X6800 and E6700 CPUs. Gone now are the old-school naming conventions used in previous years as Intel has also abandoned the name game that used core speeds as the CPU name. Today's CPUs get lovely names like the X6800, which sounds like an ATI card, the E6300-6700s, sounding like motherboards, to the 805-945 CPUs that do not generate in my opinion catchy names, but hey I liked my CPUs when they had a simple Intel 3.4GHz EE or 3.8GHz P4 nomenclature. Beyond opinion and rhetoric though Intel has done a great job and I feel that this will be their redemption to their loyal fan base of users. Follow along and see what's under the hood of Intel's new Conroe series, I think you will like what you see.

Intel's New Core 2 Duo Processors Run Blazingly Fast in PC World Tests
PCs with new 'Conroe' chips decisively outscore AMD-based rivals in our tests.

Eric Dahl, PC World

Power to Spare
Our motherboard Core 2 Duo test setup consisted of an Intel 975X Express board, 2GB of DDR2-667 memory, a pair of SATA hard drives configured in a striped array, and an nVidia GeForce 7800GT-based graphics card. We swapped first a 2.93-GHz Core 2 Extreme X6800 chip and then a 2.67-GHz Core 2 E6700 chip into that setup to generate scores we could compare directly to an otherwise identically configured system featuring AMD's new DDR2-capable AM2 platform and its top-of-the-line FX-62 processor.

Both of the Intel setups bested the AMD-based system on every test in our WorldBench 5 suite as well as on every one of our gaming tests (see chart below). The improvement on WorldBench 5's multitasking tests, which involve running a Web browsing session in Mozilla while encoding a file with Windows Media Encoder, was particularly dramatic. You'll also see notable gains in Photoshop and similar graphics applications.

double bottom ? Mel elf?

ket,

A print of 19.40, a takeout of the middle of the "W"-bottom, would be a strong indication that it is.  There's always a chance of a false breakout, but a target of 21.94 would be IN PLAY, as long as INTC remained above 19.39.
