INSM receives an important recognition today.....

NORD Honors Insmed for Role in Developing Treatments for Rare Diseases
Tuesday April 25, 9:30 am ET

Company Saluted for Research in Treating Children With Extreme Short Stature

RICHMOND, Va., April 25 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Insmed Incorporated (Nasdaq: INSM - News) was honored by the National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD) last night at its annual Tribute Banquet for the development of IPLEX(TM) (mecasermin rinfabate (rDNA origin) injection) for the treatment of growth failure in children with severe primary IGF-1 deficiency (Primary IGFD) or with growth hormone (GH) gene deletion who have developed neutralizing antibodies to GH. IPLEX was approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration in December 2005 as an orphan drug.

"For many years we've recognized the need for treatment for Primary IGF-1 deficiency, but few companies were willing to commercially develop insulin- like growth factor until now. IPLEX(TM) is a significant medical advancement worthy of recognition and we thank Insmed for this important contribution," said Abbey S. Meyers, President of NORD.

"We applaud NORD's longstanding tradition of recognizing those that dedicate their life's work to finding treatments for rare diseases, and we are delighted to be included in this celebration," said Ronald D. Gunn, M.B.A., Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Insmed. "IPLEX(TM) is the culmination of over 20 years of dedicated research and development, and represents a breakthrough in IGF-1 replacement therapy, with potential benefits in several additional rare diseases with unmet medical needs."

About IPLEX

IPLEX, a complex of rhIGF-1 and rhIGFBP-3, is the only once-daily IGF-1 replacement therapy and the only therapy that provides both IGF-1 and IGFBP-3 that is approved by the FDA to treat children with severe Primary IGFD. The drug, expected to launch during the second quarter of calendar year 2006, is also being studied for various other indications with unmet medical needs including extreme insulin resistance, myotonic muscular dystrophy and HIV Associated Adipose Redistribution Syndrome (HARS).

About the Condition

Severe Primary IGFD is a genetic condition in which patients do not generate sufficient quantities of insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-1) and insulin-like growth factor binding protein-3 (IGFBP-3), two key proteins involved in mediating the effects of growth hormone. Patients with severe Primary IGFD present with extreme short stature (height standard deviation score, SDS < -3) and an extremely poor prognosis for adult stature. Whereas prepubertal height SDS can range as low as -9, a blunted pubertal growth spurt is usually apparent, resulting in adult height that is typically 5-12 SD's below the normal population (adult height between 100 and 140 cm). The profound short stature in patients is often associated with severe psychosocial problems.

CC was not bad at all yesterday - the link that Doyle posted basically highlights all the positives form it.  However they were a little light on details about certain things - they said that IPLEX will be launched on schedule in the next several weeks, which sounded like "towards the end of q2" - so any launch is unlikely to have an impact on next Qs revs.  They were also unwilling to make any forecasts on sales or impact of IPLEX on 2006 revs, preferring to "wait and see" once it is released and have some more market data on demand, which I suppose is reasonable, but still leaves uncertainty as to how well it will be adopted.  Finally, they were unwilling to give any further details about the lawsuit with TRCA, beyond stating that the hearing date is set for November and that they believe they have a strong case.  Again a bit more uncertainty.

I also want to see INSM get going, hey it was my pick for the contest, but i don't really think it will kick off unitl they start selling it and analysts get a better idea of future revenue estimates.  But I think the positive news from the CC, namely the launch is on track, they have manufacturing, sales and marketing teams going at full speed, should get it back above 2.00.  The bigger move may still be some time away though.

down over 5% today...up almost 8% in AH

Long term here....

ScottishTrader

Hey 422,

I'm long term long here too, and bought back in a couple weeks ago, because IPLEX launch is definitely going ahead and everything looks positive post CC except for the share price!  :P

So I think we probably better think about making some trading plans here as its certianly not doing what I expected.

From the chart I see the key support area as between 1.64 and 1.66.  We have an ascending trendline off the sept-nov consolidation pre-breakout that looks to be coming in just below 1.64 right now, the most recent low was 1.65, which also corresponds to the spike-highs in sept and oct at 1.63 and 1.64 respectively, and the 200MA is currently sitting at 1.66.  So I reckon a reasonable stop would be around 1.62-1.63, representing about a 6.8% loss on my buy at 1.75 (the only bummer is that because I am using a UK brokerage and the $ has been taking a nose-dive recently, I am already down 5% when the pps is exactly at my buy point ??? what gives eh?).

Don't really see any reason whiy it should head down there, with everything expected in the next month or two, but gotta plan for all eventualities and stick with that plan.

On a positive note, the price by volume chart shows a lot of buying in this range, which should hopefully provide support.  First traget is to get out of this post earnings funk.  We need to break 2.00 and get through resistance at 2.05-2.09, which corrsponds to the recent spike high, support lows in Feb, and the descending trendline.  Hmm.... that sounds like quite a bit of work, but hopefully as more details are released about the launch, we should get some momo back/

Just my thoughts

It seems INSM is ready to go up

(1) BB width is very narrow.
(2) MFI is still > 50%
(3) If not because of today market, we should stay above 200ema.

Some Ugly selling of INSM the last couple of days with the down market - not a lot of volume but no interested buyers to pick up the price.  INSM broke down below my previously indicated support at 1.64-1.66, sitting around 1.61 for a lot of the day, but gained just enough to close above this support level at 1.66.  Looking at the chart suggests that this level really should hold as support, but the small symmetrical triangle that it broke down from would put a target of around 1.30 in play, and additionally it is in the middle of a clear bearish price channel with a base currently of around 1.40.  If the 1.59-1.66 support band it is playing with right now doesn't hold, INSM could very easily head down to test the channel support.  Not a pretty sight :P

All seems a bit strange with the launch just around the corner.  I for one am really hoping that this support level holds, as I think INSM is heavily undervalued here, and would be loath to sell at this price, knowing that higher prices surely must be ahead.

CURRENT INSM HIGHLIGHTS:

1) INSM launched commercially its FDA-Approved IPlex 4 weeks ahead of schedule.

2) Earnings for 2Q will likely exceed analysts' expectation by a wide margin due to the early iPlex commercial launch. During 2Q 2006, iPlex will be in the market for 6 weeks instead of the 2 weeks that analysts' had expected.

3) INSM has $60M in cash. These funds are sufficient to fund operations until mid-2007 excluding any iPlex revenues.

4) INSM will formally apply with the EMEA in a few weeks for iPLex approval in Europe. INSM has not ruled out a partnership with a large pharma Co. to market iPlex in Europe..

5) On June 13, a federal court dismissed a complaint filed by rival Tercica Inc. (Nasdaq: TRCA) claiming that INSM made false and misleading promotional statements related to its Iplex treatment for severe short stature in children.

***** CLINICAL DEVELOPMENT of INSM'S HUGE DRUG PIPELINE.

On May 15, 2006, a company representative addressing institutional investors clearly said that there will be many clinical trial results published within the next 6 months.

* NOONAN's syndrome trials. This is to expand iPlex patient base from 6,000 to over 30,000.

* Miotonic Muscular Disthrophy (MMD) clinical trials using iPlex are well under way.

Myotonic dystrophy affects an estimated 40,000 individuals in the United States.

* BP3 cancer trials....Ongoing (see ASCO news above)

BP3 has demonstrated preclinical efficacy in numerous cancer indications, including breast, prostate, liver, ovarian, and colon cancers.

* INSM-18 AT THE FOREFRONT OF NEW CANCER DRUGS....EVEN AHEAD OF PFIZER IN THIS AREA

On March 7, 2006, the Business Intelligence firm La Merie S.L. reported that antibodies are at the forefront of novel cancer therapeutics targeting the insulin-like growth factor-1 receptor (IGF-1R).

The report states that INSM along with giant Pfizer are among the leaders in this promising oncology research area. INSM-18 is a dual inhibitor of IGF-1R and Her2/neu and is the only clinical stage IGF-1R small molecule antagonist (phase I/II in prostate cancer).

ENDO 2006....On Tuesday, June 27, 2006, at this year's ENDO conference, INSM presented study results showing that Iplex is effective in increasing growth and improving glycemic control in patients with severe insulin-resistance syndromes, specifically Leprechaunism and Type A syndrome.

In another clinical trial, Iplex significantly improved height velocity in children with severe primary insulin growth factor-I deficiencies, the company said. Finally, a third study of the pharmacokinetics of Iplex in normal adults also showed positive results.

Iplex is already approved in the United States as a once-daily treatment for children with short stature associated with severe primary IGF-I deficiency.

NOTE:

iPlex is a proprietary INSM drug product for the delivery of recombinant insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1). It is administered as a preformed complex with a recombinant form of its natural binding protein, insulin-like growth factor binding protein 3 (rhIGFBP-3) or BP3.

BP3 helps regulate the distribution of IGF-1 and prevents IGF-1 excess. Uncontrolled IGF-1 has been linked to conditions as serious as accelerated cancer tumor cell growth.
