Capstone Turbine Announces Initial $3.8 Million Order for Its C200 Microturbine
Tuesday October 2, 4:15 pm ET

CHATSWORTH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Capstone Turbine Corporation (www.microturbine.com; NASDAQ:CPST - News), the world's leading clean technology manufacturer of microturbine energy systems, today announced an initial order for $3.8 million of C200 microturbine systems for biogas applications from Greenvironment Oy, its distributor in Finland and Germany.

Greenvironment's order specifies deliveries beginning in September 2008 and completion of the order no later than December 2009. Capstone will add $0.6 million to its backlog in September initially for the portion of the order that is within one year of delivery and the remainder of the order incrementally as it falls within one year.

Founded in 2002 in Finland, Greenvironment has been a leader in clean and green technologies using biogas-fueled microturbines. In early 2006, it expanded into Germany with a subsidiary located in Berlin. In June 2007, in the presence of 150 invited guests from industry, government and media, Greenvironment commissioned its first commercial microturbine power plant in Germany, utilizing a digester.

"Because of its innovative technology and its unique business plan, CNBC Europe placed Greenvironment on its list of the Top 50 Low-Carbon Pioneers," said Tony Hynes, Vice President, Sales, Europe, the Middle East and Africa. "This order reinforces their confidence in our systems' reliability and low emissions profile on biogas fuels," added Hynes.

"Europe is currently a successful market for us, and this order for our C200 product will enable further market penetration," said Darren Jamison, President and CEO of Capstone Turbine Corporation. "We have been very impressed with Greenvironment's team of dedicated experts in all aspects of engineering, marketing, and project management, and their focus of providing outstanding support to their customers," added Jamison. "We are looking forward to a continued successful relationship between our two companies."

Commenting on the new order, Greenvironment Oy's Managing Director, Matti Malkamaki said, "We have been impressed by Capstone Turbine's leadership in clean and green microturbine technology and as a manufacturer of proven and reliable equipment, and we believe that there will be a growing demand for C200 microturbine systems in various biogas applications in the future."

The 200-kilowatt system is the latest generation MicroTurbine® being developed by Capstone. "In addition to a net power output of 200 kilowatts, the C200 will provide the same technology advantages as our previous microturbines as well as multiple unit paralleling capability to powering applications up to 2 megawatts, with the highest electrical efficiency of the Capstone MicroTurbine product family," said Jim Crouse, Executive Vice President, Sales & Marketing.

Capstone Turbine Corporation Announces Second Quarter Fiscal 2008 Operating Results
Thursday November 8, 4:15 pm ET
Second Quarter Revenue of $7.2 Million Increased 145% from Same Period Last Year and 28% from Prior Quarter

CHATSWORTH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Capstone Turbine Corporation® (www.microturbine.com;) (NASDAQ:CPST - News) reported operating results for its second quarter ended September 30, 2007 in its Quarterly Report on Form 10-Q filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission on November 8, 2007.

Financial Summary

Capstone's total backlog at the end of the second quarter ended September 30, 2007 was $10.4 million of which $7.2 million is short term (within twelve months). Total backlog increased approximately $5.1 million, or 96% from the first quarter ended June 30, 2007 and approximately $3.6 million, or 53% from the end of the same period last year.

Revenue for the second quarter was $7.2 million, an increase of approximately 145% from the $2.9 million reported for the same period last year and $1.6 million or 28% from the prior quarter. The increase is attributable to increased sales to the North American, European and Asian markets.

The reported gross loss for the second quarter was $0.8 million, or 10% of revenue, compared to $2.3 million, or 79% of revenue for the same period last year. The improvement in gross loss from the prior year was because of increased total volume and higher margin C-60 series units and lower warranty and inventory charges of $1.3 million.

Research and development costs were $2.4 million for the second quarter, a decrease of $0.2 million, or 6% from the same period last year. R&D expenses are reported net of benefits from cost-sharing programs such as the United Technologies Corporation ("UTC") funding. The first $1.5 million of the $12.0 million due from UTC was received during the second quarter of which $115,000 was applied against R&D expense. The remaining $1.4 million will be recognized against R&D expense in future periods. There was approximately $0.4 million of such benefits from another source for the same period last year. Overall net expenses were lower primarily because of lower labor and consulting spending, decreased development hardware, and reduced facilities expenses.

Selling, general and administrative costs were $5.9 million for the second quarter, a decrease of $0.2 million, or 3% from the same period last year. The reduction is primarily because of lower labor related costs, professional services, consulting and marketing expenses offset by increased travel and facilities expenses.

Capstone's net loss was $8.5 million, or $0.06 per share, for the second quarter, a decrease of $1.9 million from the $10.4 million loss, or $0.10 per share, reported for the same period last year.

Cash balances decreased by $4.0 million during the second quarter of fiscal 2008. As of September 30, 2007, cash and cash equivalents were $46.3 million. Cash used in operations was $5.4 million for the quarter compared to $9.9 million for the prior quarter and $9.6 million for the same period last year.

New York City Mayor Bloomberg Announces New Rule for Microturbine Deployment
Tuesday December 4, 4:15 pm ET

CHATSWORTH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Capstone Turbine Corporation (www.microturbine.com) (NASDAQ:CPST - News), the world's leading clean technology manufacturer of microturbine energy systems, today announced that New York City has implemented the country's first standard for the use and installation of microturbine technology.

"Mayor Bloomberg's announcement yesterday (www.nyc.gov) of the new rule outlining the use and installation of microturbine systems in residential and commercial buildings in New York is an important milestone for Capstone as we look to help New York lower its greenhouse gas emissions and allow building owners to generate a portion of their own electricity throughout the five boroughs," said Darren Jamison, President and Chief Executive Officer of Capstone Turbine Corporation.

The new rule was published in yesterday's City Record and takes effect immediately. The rule will help New York meet its commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions citywide by 30% between now and 2030, and it will help spur the real estate and development communities to build more efficient, greener projects moving forward.

"Capstone has been cooperating with the Cogeneration Task Force for more than a year to get this new standard written and on the books," stated Jim Crouse, Executive Vice President, Sales and Marketing for Capstone Turbine Corporation. "This has been a substantial undertaking by our employees, partners and consultants to work collaboratively with the Cogeneration Task Force in meeting the New York building codes and Fire Department safety guidelines," Crouse added.

Buildings in New York City generate 79% of the city's greenhouse gas emissions. By supplying on-site power generation to buildings, microturbine systems provide an energy-efficient supplement to power plants, New York City's conventional power supply. Building owners are now enabled to take advantage of Capstone's microturbine technology, which will help the City reach its PlaNYC goal of expanding clean distributed power generation citywide.

Under the rule, microturbine systems approved by nationally recognized testing laboratories such as Underwriters Laboratory (UL) can be installed at residential and commercial buildings in various locations, including within weatherproof enclosures at grade or on roofs and within mechanical rooms built with 2-hour fire-resistance rated walls.

from Motley Fool:
A crowning achievement
While solar energy has been getting all the attention lately, other renewable energy sources have also had the wind at their backs. Such is the case with tiny Capstone Technology, a manufacturer of microturbines that operate on a variety of gaseous or liquid fuels and emit very low emissions. It recently unveiled the first megawatt microturbine. The company claims that each installation of its solution is the emissions-reducing equivalent of removing up to 700 cars from the nation's highways.

Although a number of top-ranked CAPS investors feel this could be a case of investors piling into a company because of its relationship with "alternative energy," bulls here feel its technology can actually assist and proliferate.

CAPS investor laservisor noted last year that alternative fuels will be driving ahead and Capstone can benefit from them:

The next revolution in energy will come from biomass based resources. Ethanol is what most people think of when they think biomass energy, but there are two very important other fuels: biogas (CH4+CO2) and producer gas (CO, H2, etc). These fuels can be produced at the community and "district" scale from ag waste, municipal urban waste, and so on -- and there are literally hundreds of thousands of sites around the world where small decentralized units of energy production from biomass can be commercialized.

Capstone is extremely well poised to be the leading technology driver for this revolution because of its scale, modularity, and proven reliability over the years.

Further, even though some CAPS All-Stars, like luvb2b with a perfect 100.00 player rating, see it as a short-term play, they also note the company has good fundamentals and some growth drivers poised to give it a boost:

CPST has a lot of the characteristics needed to make it a good January Effect candidate:

       1. Recent fundamental news including incentives by NYC to promote use of microturbines.
       2. Breaking out to a 52wk high.
       3. Part of the hot alternative energy sector.
       4. A play on increased energy efficiency.
       5. Low price, historically volatile price action, low market capitalization, and high short
           interest.
