Capstone Turbine Corporation Receives ISO 14001:2004 Certification
Wednesday May 28, 4:05 pm ET

CHATSWORTH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Capstone Turbine Corporation® (www.microturbine.com) (NASDAQ: CPST - News), the world's leading clean technology manufacturer of microturbine energy systems, today announced that its facilities in Van Nuys and Chatsworth, California, have received ISO 14001:2004 Certification under Capstone's 14001 Certification initiative.

The ISO 14001 Standard is an internationally accepted specification for environmental management systems created by the International Organization for Standardization to help organizations minimize harmful effects on the environment caused by their activities, and to achieve continual improvement of their environmental performance by complying with related laws, regulations and requirements.

As part of the efforts to achieve this well-recognized certification, Capstone Turbine Corporation has established its own Environmental Management System (EMS) to provide assurance to management that it is in control of the organizational processes and activities having an impact on the environment, and to assure employees that they are working for an environmentally responsible organization.

"Capstone not only produces environmentally friendly green and clean microturbine systems, but by adhering to strict ISO standards, we also manufacture our products in environmentally friendly surroundings," said Leigh Estus, Sr. Vice President of Operations. "In fact, Capstone's EMS helps monitor and improve upon a number of areas that touch on the environment such as chemical control, waste management, toner cartridge recycling and utilization of recyclable products on our manufacturing floors."

In October 2007, Capstone announced the launch of its 65 kilowatt microturbine that meets extremely low exhaust emissions requirements including California Air Resources Board's (CARB) stringent distributed generation emissions standard. "Our microturbines have become even 'greener' with the super low emissions products designed to meet the CARB 2007 standard," said Darren Jamison, President & CEO of Capstone Turbine Corporation. "In fact, our efficient CARB-certified combined heat and power systems provide the best value in terms of greenhouse gas and criteria pollutant emissions reductions per dollar of investment compared with solar and wind systems because we can reduce these emissions 24 hours a day. We are particularly pleased to be able to offer our customers these CARB 2007-certified turbines in addition to continuously improving our environmental performance in all our business activities. We are very happy to have received the ISO 14001:2004 certification and we will continue our operations in a manner to have the least impact on our environment and the least burden for future generations."

Forbes:

Capstone Buoyed By Backlog
Ruthie Ackerman, 06.13.08, 5:40 PM ET

Capstone Turbine was hit by rising costs in the fourth quarter, but its substantial backlog infused investors with optimism about its future on Friday.

On Thursday after the closing bell, the producer of low-emission microturbine systems announced its fourth-quarter loss widened as soaring raw material costs bit into the bottom line.

Microturbine systems are generators that provide clean energy to residential and commercial buildings.

Investors were pleased. Capstone's shares shot up 7.6%, or 26 cents, to $3.67, in afternoon trading.

The company posted a net loss of $9.5 million, or 7 cents per share, compared with a loss of $8.5 million, or 6 cents per share, in the prior year.

Despite the widening loss, revenue for the quarter ended March 31 rose 60.0%, to $9.3 million. Capstone said it shipped 140 units in the fourth quarter, compared with 67 a year earlier.

Analysts polled by Thomson Financial had forecast a loss of 5 cents per share, on sales of $9.3 million.

The company said rising sales were offset by higher manufacturing and overhead costs.

The bright spot was Capstone's backlog for the fiscal year. The backlog skyrocketed 458.0%, to $27.9 million, higher than its revenue of $21.0 million for all of 2007.

Lazard Capital Markets analyst Sanjay Shrestha said Capstone's backlog doesn't fully reflect the total backlog. "The company posted stellar backlog of $27.9 million -- 428 units -- reflecting a 113.0% increase sequentially and 458.0% year-over-year," said Shrestha. "The reported backlog number does not include the services and components backlog, which adds about $10.0 million."

Shrestha raised Capstone's fiscal year 2009 revenue estimates to $58.0 million from $50.0 million, reflecting the current backlog trend.

She said that about $7.0 million of recently announced orders have not been reflected in the backlog. These orders include a $3.5 million contract with OfficePower, as well as additional orders from PowerGen of Milan and a $2.0 million order from a Russian distributor.

Capstone Receives $1.5 Million in New Units, Equipment Upgrades, Spare Parts and Service Orders from Pemex
Monday June 16, 5:00 am ET

CHATSWORTH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Capstone Turbine Corporation (www.microturbine.com) (Nasdaq: CPST - News), the world's leading clean technology manufacturer of microturbine energy systems, today announced that it has received orders for new microturbine systems for deployment on a Petroleos Mexicanos (PEMEX) offshore oil platform in the Gulf of Mexico and equipment upgrades to existing platform systems, spare parts and training.

Capstone received a microturbine order from GIMSA International, Inc. for approximately $400,000. The units will be installed on offshore platforms, producing crude oil and gas, which are operated by PEMEX. The microturbine packages purchased by GIMSA will meet the special requirement for offshore applications. This includes corrosion protection with a 316 stainless steel enclosure, Class I Division 2/NFPA 496 certification for use in hazardous areas, and UL listing. Capstone Turbine produces the world's only microturbine solution that meets all of these stringent requirements.

The equipment upgrades, spare parts and training totaling approximately $1.1 million were from Integrated Trade Systems, Inc. (ITS), a U.S. corporation that is wholly owned by PEMEX and provides integrated international procurement services to PEMEX and its four subsidiary entities in Mexico. The spare parts orders were placed under a $6.8 million blanket purchase order with ITS that was received in April 2008 and expires in April 2011.

"In November 2006, Capstone signed a five-year service agreement with ITS," said Shelby Ahmann, Capstone's Sr. Vice President of Customer Service. "This agreement with ITS has helped PEMEX streamline the process of procuring parts, technical support and training to support their operating fleet," added Ahmann.

Commenting on the order from GIMSA International, Jim Crouse, Capstone's Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing, said, "Capstone's microturbine systems offer a tremendous value proposition for offshore platforms with their small footprint, high reliability, light weight, low emissions and extended maintenance periods. Previous systems operating at PEMEX and other oil and gas companies in offshore and onshore applications are operating very well and customers have been very impressed with the performance of our technology."

"We continue to increase our market presence in the oil and gas sector with PEMEX becoming our third largest microturbine customer behind Petrobras in Brazil and Gazprom in Russia. We know that our products are a great fit in this market and we are very pleased to have received these important follow-on orders for PEMEX platforms," said Darren Jamison, Capstone's President and Chief Executive Officer. "In addition, we believe our new C200 and C1000 products will further strengthen our overall product offering in the oil and gas sector allowing us to penetrate the larger manned platforms and onshore pumping and compression stations," added Jamison.

The Capstone offshore package also includes an energy storage system to start the microturbine and provide momentary power during abrupt load changes. The result is highly regulated voltage and frequency regardless of load changes. These compact, self-sufficient systems are perfect for unmanned platforms and have onshore dispatch, monitoring and diagnostics capability.

Capstone has extensive operating experience in Alaska, The Mediterranean, The Adriatic, The North Sea, Southeast Asia, the South Atlantic and the Gulf of Mexico.
