PLUG  Coca-Cola Refreshments to Use Plug Power GenDrive Fuel...  by GlobeNewswire  Jan 13 2011 8:29AM

LATHAM, N.Y., Jan 13, 2011 (GlobeNewswire via COMTEX) -- Plug Power Inc. (PLUG) and Coca-Cola Refreshments USA (KO, Trade ) announced plans for a new fleet of GenDrive-powered Caterpillar lift trucks at Coca-Cola's 250,000 sq. ft. bottling and distribution center in San Leandro, CA.

The GenDrive fleet at Coca-Cola's facility will include 37 Class-1 sit down counterbalanced trucks. Previously using lead-acid batteries as a power solution, Coca-Cola is making the transition to GenDrive to take advantage of the increased productivity and improved space utilization offered by the technology.

By removing the infrastructure associated with the lead-acid battery charging, changing and maintenance, Coca-Cola will recover more than 2,000 square feet of facility space to use for other business operations. At the same time, electrical consumption will be reduced by an estimated 1.6 million kwh/year. These benefits will help Coca-Cola realize a return on investment and a 15% carbon reduction goal across the business.

"At Coca-Cola, we consider sustainability a core component to everything we do. Our goal is to be the beverage industry leader in energy conservation and climate protection," said Brian P. Kelly, Product Supply Leader, Coca-Cola Refreshments. "Using Plug Power Fuel Cells for our fleet in the San Leandro facility is an example of this commitment. This innovative use of technology will help us reduce our carbon emissions, streamline our operations and work towards our aggressive environmental goals."

"This is the second site in the Coca-Cola system to convert an existing lift truck fleet to GenDrive fuel cells," said Andy Marsh, CEO at Plug Power. "It's evidenced through these repeat customers the real value of the GenDrive solution. Hydrogen fuel cells are competing with the incumbent power sources and winning because they provide the most benefit for the organization. It's a simple business decision."

Plug Power received a purchase order from Coca-Cola in November, 2010 and shipped all 37 units to the customer in December, 2010.

Plug Power Celebrates Successful Year for Company's Manufacturing and Sales Activity
Company Closed Over 400 Unit Sales During Fourth Quarter

Press Release Source: Plug Power Inc. On Tuesday January 4, 2011, 7:00 am EST

LATHAM, N.Y., Jan. 4, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Plug Power Inc. (Nasdaq:PLUG - News), a leader in providing clean, reliable energy solutions, is using tremendous momentum from its 2010 success to welcome in the new year. During the year ending December 31, 2010, Plug Power sold over 500 of its GenDrive fuel cell units and manufactured and shipped over 650 units.

In the fourth quarter alone, the Company closed deals equating to over 400 GenDrive units. Some first-time customers include CVS, Coca-Cola and Winco Foods. At the same time, Plug Power received follow-on orders from repeat customers like BMW, Central Grocers and Walmart Canada. Concluding the successful quarter, Plug Power received letters of commitment from customers for another 250-plus GenDrive power units.

Plug Power manufactured and shipped a record number of units for the full year ending December 31, 2010, meeting its milestone of at least 650 unit shipments for the year. During the fourth quarter alone, over 280 units were distributed to customers across North America. These GenDrive customers include Central Grocers, Walmart Canada, Kimberly Clark and Coca-Cola. The Company's Latham, NY manufacturing facility is capable of producing over 10,000 units each year.

"I'm pleased with the continued commercial adoption of our GenDrive solution by new customers and the follow-on orders by existing customers," said Andy Marsh, CEO of Plug Power. "This positive traction is a direct line to significant market transformation within the material handling space."

All of the deals closed in 2010 were without previously required major government subsidies from the Departments of Energy and/or Defense. This is evidence that customers are realizing the value of alternative energy solutions for their material handling businesses today.

Plug Power will discuss overall financial metrics during its regularly scheduled 2010 year-end conference call.
