Double Bottom (Reversal)
The double bottom is a major reversal pattern that forms after an extended downtrend. As its name implies, the pattern is made up of two consecutive troughs that are roughly equal, with a moderate peak in between.

Although there can be variations, the classic double bottom usually marks an intermediate or long-term change in trend. Many potential double bottoms can form along the way down, but until key resistance is broken, a reversal cannot be confirmed.

It is important to remember that the double bottom is an intermediate to long-term reversal pattern that will not form in a few days. Even though formation in a few weeks is possible, it is preferable to have at least 4 weeks between lows. Bottoms usually take longer than tops to form and patience can often be a virtue. Give the pattern time to develop and look for the proper clues. The advance off of the first trough should be 10-20%. The second trough should form a low within 3% of the previous low and volume on the ensuing advance should increase. Volume indicators such as Chaikin Money Flow, OBV and Accumulation/Distribution can be used to look for signs of buying pressure. Just as with the double top, it is paramount to wait for the resistance breakout. The formation is not complete until the previous reaction high is taken out.

Updating DSTI as it appears to be bouncing off of a bottom. Was a 20 minute daytrade for me, in at 2.90 and out at 3.15 for a quick 8.6%.

Might be worth watching!

DSTI...may be putting in a G-pattern as well.  Most alternative energy plays should do well leading up to the presidential state of the union at the end of January. ;)

kslifka

In DSTI...good volume today and a mini-G-pattern perhaps.  Man this stock has taken a hit in the past year.  Has only a market cap of 18 million.

cumulina

DSTI is up 19% - and DSTIZ is up 23% (I have DSTIZ myself)

I'll add both charts.
Happy trading...

Very nice looking chart and I love the action on the stock. :D

cumulina

Yes - i think there is room for a lot more.

I hope they'll come with some good news - then we'll really see fireworks!  >:D

Had some news on Debt restructuring and thats when the stock took a hit.

Dang I had a sell order at 3.90....thinking it would test resistance...but then the news hit the wires.

Oh well...we'll try again next week.

UPDATE 1-DayStar restructures debt, to raise additional capital
Fri Jan 19, 2007 4:00pm ET160

Jan 19 (Reuters) - DayStar Technologies Inc. (DSTI.O: Quote, Profile , Research) announced a series of moves to restructure its finances, including the transfer of a $15 million senior convertible note to a new investor and a $5 million equity raising.

The moves triggered a 15.3 percent rise in the solar cells maker's shares to $3.31 on Nasdaq.

DayStar said it entered into an agreement with an investor under which the original investor will transfer the debt, a Class B warrant and the associated rights of each to the new investor.

Hi, kslifka.

I think the stock surged ON the news, and THEN had a sell-off.

Really not so strange, as it has had some turbulent days.

I like the re-structuring, and hopefully that will give the company some room to work again.

The president is supposed to give a speak early february (i think it is?) and it should give a good boost to all alternative energy stock.

Have a good weekend.
Happy trading...

It looks like it might have paid off waiting for "good things to happen" for holders of DSTI.

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- DayStar Technologies Inc. said Tuesday Nasdaq has granted its request for an exemption to forgo a stockholder vote on the issuance of new securities in connection with its restructuring of an outstanding convertible note and a private placement of stock. Under its financing plan, the Halfmoon, N.Y.-based maker of solar cells said the convertible note was sold to a buyer who agreed that the company could defer payments of interest and principal on the note for thirty days. In addition, DayStar agreed to issue 825,181 shares of common stock to the original note holder in full payment of outstanding principal and interest. DayStar shares rose 18% to $3.05 in Tuesday morning trade.

Looks like DSTI is starting to look real good and in a bullish light. Nice uptrend despite the massive sell off this past week. I know it's been said that alternative energy is a game not to be in but how can one look at this and argue? Solar stocks have been hot this past couple weeks. Is this a blip or a sign of a trend to continue? Any thoughts?

I own a little of DSTI.  I know it's expected that energy demands will go down as the global economy slows.  This should drop  the Price per Barrel of Oil.  I'm not sure how much of an effect it will have on alt. energy plays.  Solar and Wind seem to be the safer plays since the technology is all ready there.  Many solar companies revenues have been picking up as governments in Europe, China and some localities in the U.S. have been converting to solar power.

As far as DSTI.  I will sell at the 200dma as resistance or a drop below the 9ema...which ever comes first ;)

I have purchased and sold this so many times over the last 18 months, I guess this time I was a nervous nellie. I have never lost $$ on this stock but there is always a first. I never thought to use a 9ema to track this. It seems to be a great gauge of when to sell this one. I just made a bad intra day trade on Friday so I may have to have a much higher bail out than the 9ema. I timed it wrong and bought a bunch at 5.21. Man what a bone head move. I hope DSTI saves me.  8)

Thanks for the tip.

Did you close out your position? My order didn't go through to sell at the 9ema at 4.22 where it closed at so I am still stuck with a nice loss here. Knowing my luck is this thing will rebound and I will be screwed both ways. I would be curious to know if yours closed out.
