from IBD:

Simulations Plus Chief Executive Walter Woltosz has a name for his company's marketing strategy. It's called"Head Man Selling." In this case, Woltosz is the head man. He leads Simulations'SLP sales team and has only one marketing rep backing him up.
The company makes and sells predictive software for biopharma research and educational software for the disabled. Its scientists, 14 of whom have Ph.D.s, handle some of the salesworkas well. With only 40 people on the payroll, Woltosz decided to eliminate
themiddlemanto get customers. Simulations Plus has sent speakers or presenters to more than 40 major scientific meetings worldwide in the last three years. Those conferences give the company "a first hand sense of clients' wishes," Woltosz said. "We want our scientists not in here writing software. We want the mout there." They also travel to customer sites
to see what it's like to work in labs at drug giants such as Pfizer PFE, Eli Lilly and Bristol-
Myers. To boost its presence, Simulations recently added more scientists to the payroll. That was a good move, says analyst Howard Halpern of Taglich Bros., which does business
with Simulations Plus. "The increase is important since they all have the potential to bring
in new customers due to their knowledge and interaction," Halpern said.
THE FINANCIALS
Simulations has grown sales at least26%over the last five quarters.
The surge has come from a variety of sources, Halpern says, including "increased licenses from new customers, new modules to existing customers, expansion of additional licenses to renewal customers, and increased use of the company's contract services."
Sales gained 47% to $2.6 million during the fiscal third quarter, which ended in May. Profit doubled to 4 cents a share.
Halpern, the sole analyst following Simulations Plus, expects the company to post earnings of 23 cents a share for fiscal 2007, which ended in August. He sees profit of 32 cents for fiscal 2008.
International sales contributed 38%of the total during the first nine monthsof fiscal 2007.
THE COMPANY
Simulations was founded in 1981 and began working on software for biopharma research in 1996. Woltosz got the idea for predictive biopharma software while in the aerospace industry, where he worked on simulations for rocket motors and launch vehicles.
Simulations' software helps biopharmascientists quickly and cheaply predict potential new compound and drug behavior. The idea is to speed up drug development by obviating
dead-end lab work and clinical trials.
The company counts the top 25 biopharma firms as customers.
Pharmaceutical software provides 51%of revenue.
LOOKING AHEAD
Simulations Plus has $4 million in cash. That's enough to acquire new technology, Woltosz says. "We're in negotiations for acquisitions on both the pharma and disability side."
His goal is annual sales growth of 70% to 80%for the biopharma business and 50% for the company as a whole.

Simulations Plus and Enslein Research Sign Agreement
Thursday , September 20, 2007 09:15ET

LANCASTER, Calif., Sep 20, 2007 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Simulations Plus, Inc. (AMEX:SLP), a leading provider of simulation and modeling software for pharmaceutical discovery and development, and Enslein Research, Inc., of Rochester, New York, announced today that they have signed a collaboration agreement that will provide Simulations Plus with exclusive access to a database of metabolism measurements for an important group of Cytochrome P450 (CYP) enzymes that are involved in the metabolism of a large number of drug-like molecules.

Walt Woltosz, chairman and chief executive officer of Simulations Plus, said: "In our work with Enslein Research for over a year, we have combined the strength of our modeling methods in ADMET Predictor/Modeler with the meticulously detailed metabolism data that Dr. Enslein and his team have assembled from the scientific literature. The combination of their unique data set with our modeling methodologies resulted in a predictive model for the most prominent enzyme for human drug metabolism, known as CYP3A4. A major pharmaceutical company conducted a blind test on part of this model earlier this year using data from their own compounds where the metabolism had been measured, and the response was that this was indeed a very useful model. We are now in the process of building additional models for several more enzymes from this data set. The ability to predict metabolism for CYP enzymes will be an exciting addition to our ADMET Predictor capabilities."

Dr. Enslein added: "We have been pleased to work with the scientists at Simulations Plus for almost a year and a half on this very challenging problem of predicting metabolism kinetics from molecular structure. A few companies offer predictions for metabolism that only provide an indication of whether or not a new molecule is likely to be metabolized by a particular enzyme. Our data and models go further to estimate the rate of metabolism. With an estimated rate, a scientist can decide, for example, which of two molecules that are both likely to be metabolized by a particular CYP enzyme would be better to take forward into development. Without rate, the two could appear to be equal. Having this kind of quantitative estimate should provide yet another way to eliminate problem molecules early in the discovery process."

Ron Creeley, vice president of marketing and sales for Simulations Plus, said: "The resulting models from this exclusive agreement will be embodied in an extra-cost 'Enslein Metabolism Module' in our best-in-class ADMET Predictor software. Under the terms of the agreement, revenues received from licenses for this additional module will be shared with Enslein Research. Based on the encouragement we received from our large pharmaceutical company test, we believe that this will be a module that will be in wide demand. The cost of measuring metabolism in the lab is significant, so we expect this tool will help to lower costs and save time by identifying molecules that are likely to have very high rates of metabolism, and so would be undesirable compared to others with lower metabolic rates."

fyi:
......
I recommend right now in Emerging Growth is Simulations Plus (SLP). This is a very small outfit based in Lancaster, CA that makes computer programs that simulate absorption and pharmacokinetics for orally dosed drugs. Their programs are godsends for many medical professionals.
Yesterday, shares of SLP closed at just $4.62. Don't let this low price fool you. The stock is up 60% for the year. Best of all, the company is practically ignored by the major Wall Street brokerages. Some people think that's a bad thing. Not me—I love finding great stocks before the crowd. For the most recent fiscal year, revenues at SLP jumped 50% and the company is financially sound. There's zero debt and over $4 million cash. I rate Simulations Plus a strong buy up to $8 a share. But I should caution you that I also rate it as an aggressive stock which means that it's highly volatile. If you can stand the daily zigs and zags, then SLP is a great stock to own.

Simulations Plus Provides Preliminary Guidance for Fiscal Year 2008
Tuesday , December 18, 2007 09:15ET

LANCASTER, Calif., Dec 18, 2007 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Simulations Plus, Inc. (AMEX:SLP), a leading provider of ADMET absorption simulation and neural net structure-to-property prediction software for pharmaceutical discovery and development, today provided gross revenues guidance for its fiscal year 2008 (FY08) ending August 31, 2008.

Walt Woltosz, chairman and chief executive officer of Simulations Plus, said: "We hoped to complete at least one acquisition before the holidays so we could issue guidance that would include the effects of that acquisition. Unfortunately, it's taking longer than expected. So today we are providing guidance that reflects the growth we currently expect to achieve without acquisitions. Investors should note that this does not mean we no longer expect to complete them - the two we've discussed previously are still on the table. We believe they are both moving forward to completion early next year, although there can be no assurances that either one will be completed."

Woltosz continued: "Without acquisitions, we are forecasting an increase in gross revenues of at least $3 million for the fiscal year. We're basing this estimate on several factors: the growth we achieved in our pharmaceutical software and services business last fiscal year, the number and quality of leads we're working now compared to last year at this time, new product offerings nearing release, our general impression of the state of the pharmaceutical industry with respect to adoption of modeling and simulation tools, and our expectations for growth in our Words+ subsidiary."

Ms. Momoko Beran, chief financial officer of Simulations Plus, added: "We're pleased to report that preliminary first quarter revenues were $1,976,000, up 35.6% from $1,456,000 during the first fiscal quarter of FY07. Revenues from pharmaceutical software and services increased 74.5% to $1,438,000 from $824,000 in the first fiscal quarter of FY07. Revenues from our Words+ subsidiary decreased 15% to $537,000 from $632,000 in the first quarter of FY07. This would have resulted in a small decrease in consolidated first quarter revenues without the large pharmaceutical software order that came in the second quarter last year, but was received in the first quarter this year at the customer's request. We are encouraged to note that revenues from the pharmaceutical side of the business would have set a new first quarter record even without this early large order."
