BUSINESS SUMMARY   
Carriage Services, Inc. provides death care services and merchandise in the United States. It provides burial and cremation services, including consultation, the removal and preparation of remains, the sale of caskets and related funeral merchandise, the use of funeral home facilities for visitation and worship, and transportation services. The company also offers various cemetery services that comprise interment services; the rights to interment in cemetery sites, including grave sites, mausoleum crypts, and niches; and related cemetery merchandise, such as memorials and vaults. As of August 7, 2006, Carriage Services operated 131 funeral homes in 27 states and 28 cemeteries in 11 states in the United States. The company was founded by Melvin C. Payne in 1991 and is headquartered in Houston, Texas.
Carriage shares gain on 2007 guidance

Shares of Carriage Services Inc. gained more than 13 percent Friday after the company predicted higher earnings and revenue for 2007.

The Houston-based funeral and cemetery operator on Feb. 8 said it expects to earn between 38 cents and 42 cents a share on revenue of $162 million to $165 million in 2007.

Carriage shares gained 13.6 percent Friday, or 73 cents, to close at $6.08.

Carriage Services (NYSE: CSV - News) also reported preliminary earnings of 20 cents a share on revenue of $151 million for 2006.

Carriage Services CEO Melvin Payne said the company's fourth quarter performance was driven by broadly higher funeral revenue and margin increases in all three geographic regions.

The company will release final results for the quarter and full year for 2006 in early March.
