Hi EliteG,

I think this is another great pick! I'm getting used to ;)
The chart is unbelievable from a technical point of view, short term bullish trend, with increasing volume, and a first breakout (today). I think it will be very easy to break the next level ($0.30), and that should be a major breakout, which means the development of a new mid-term trend, based on high volume buying power.
That's a bullish chart, but with no great euphoria yet, which means that till now that's not a speculative move yet... but it could start to be from now on, or after the $0.30 resistance is breached ;)  >:D

About the company, it's inside a very hot sector, and it seams like a very good project, take a look at their website: http://www.novastarresources.com/

Well... I had to buy some for my penny portfolio... bought @ $0.26 a little position, and if we see a confirmation, I'll buy a few more above $0.30.

Go NVAS !!!  ;)

Best regards !

A short rundown on NVAS-
5/9 Custom Branded Networks (CBNK) acquires significant Uranium and Thorium property in Northern Australia
5/9 CBNK announces name and symbol change to Novastar (NVAS)
5/11  Drill log for Australian property shows VAST reserves of Thorium
5/16  Name Rubenstein PR as their PR and Investor Relations firm
5/19 Name Alex Weiss, founder of Weiss Precision which manufacturers components for the Dept. of Defense and Dept. of Energy to Board of Advisors
6/7 Met with Indian Energy officials to discuss possible deals.
6/23 Began lobbying members of Congress on the advantages of Thorium.
Why is all this so significant?    Because Thorium has been proven in test after scientific test to be more efficient and less harmful than Uranium and its byproduct Plutonium in fueling Nuclear Reactors. It provides far less radioactivity and virtually no weapons grade material as plutonium does. Novastar believes that a huge market utilizing Thorium based nuclear fuels is rapidly developing around the world and India is the first to show significant interest
and I would not be surprised if a deal with that country were not forthcoming in the not too distant future.
Novastar seems to be making all the right moves as indicated above. This may be a short termer, I don't know. We would have to check with Elite or some of the other TA's for that
But from an FA's point of view , this company has a very bright future in the medium/longer term and I bought with that in mind. All the best.
Irish

Thx Irishman and Ramsburg for the added analysis.  This is teamwork  ;D

I am having trouble not getting excited about this one.  I like the chemistry behind it.  The base that it would break out of if it crosses .300 is just great for explosive gains.  Lets see what this baby's got.  8)

Applaud eliteg  :)

I had NVAS on my watch list for a while, I think Throium is the future, Uranium is not a long term commodity, and it's only being used on the last 50 years as a provisory solution.
This company seems to have everything on the right place, their strategy looks right, and by some reason the chart it's a screaming BUY.  :o

I'm in, for the long run !

I was looking at the chart on this stock and noticed that it has a pattern of a falling wedge, than moves back up to a higher wedge formation.  It will be interesting to see if it follows the pattern of breaks from it.  I didn't get in today, perhaps on consolidation - new wedge.

Title: Re: NVAS
Post by: vic666 on July 05, 2005, 04:16:04 PM
exactly, and it is this wedge pattern that I believe we broke out from today, on substantially higher volume.

I think you meant «rising wedge»  ;)
I'm paying more attention to the ascending triangle (excluding high values noise), or in other words is the range (0.08/0.21) breakout, the short term projection could be something like $0.34... but to be honest, I'm looking at much higher figures on this one...

What a nice little stock!    ;)

EliteG : thank you very much.

How hard vil it be  - I wonder - for it to break trough the resistance?
With the volume today, it should slice trough it like a hot knife tru butter?

wonder what happened between 2001 and now, to bring this stock down by so much....was it poor fundamentals, or just losing interest in thorium?

From otcstockexchange.com Mid-Day Stock Alert today:

Novastar Resources Ltd. a significant global supplier of Thorium and related rare earth compounds, has announced plans to initiate a strategic lobbying campaign to educate United States government officials about the significant social, environmental and energy benefits of Thorium utilization. In recent weeks, Novastar executives have presented to several Congressman in Washington, DC. Additional meetings with key U.S. Representatives have been scheduled.

Lobbying efforts are essential to successfully positioning Novastar Resources, because raising public awareness is crucial in realizing the environmental and social benefits of Thorium compounds in the United States. The Company's strategy to position itself as a major global supplier of Thorium compounds will come as a result of the awareness of Thorium's numerous advantages. Additionally, Novastar Resources is actively seeking alliances with leading government relations firms in an effort to more effectively lobby to the United States Congress and other government officials.

"The benefits of Thorium use, as an alternative energy, are obvious, although the United States public remains largely unaware of Thorium as a potential alternative to Uranium based fuels," said Paul Carter, CEO, Novastar Resources. "Our company believes that successfully lobbying the United States government can facilitate U.S. awareness, support and ultimately, demand for Thorium, as we continue to both develop the Australian property and consider new acquisitions."

The Thorium-Cycle can effectively and efficiently power electricity generating nuclear reactors, while greatly limiting the production of weapons grade Plutonium (Pu 239) along with other toxic transuranic waste bi-products. Also, all of the mined thorium is potentially useable in a reactor, compared with the 0.7% of natural uranium, so some 40 times the amount of energy per unit mass might be available. Therefore, the thorium fuel cycle, with its potential for breeding fuel without the need for fast-neutron reactors, holds considerable potential long-term. It is a key factor in the sustainability of nuclear energy.

eager, hey I definately feel strongly about this pick.  I have to answer you with a concept David spoke about.  If you have done your analysis and you have decided to buy a stock, you BUY that stock no hesitation(unless huge gap and sometimes even then).  You need YOUR POSITION and you may not have a chance for a pullback.

David and other traders can only say this because risk management is built into every trade.  All the analysis in the world won't make you money if you dont use risk management.  The market is the only 1 right 100%.   >:D

Lets rock  :o 8)

Elite, I am posting a picture of NVAS chart, for my learning purpose! If one looks at the indicators, Wm%, CCI and StochRSI; all of them are increasing sharply. Of course this is in addition to ur basic premise of consolidating and sharply rising on high volume. Can I then conclude, given the basic premise, when all the indicators i.e CCI, Wm% and StochRSI are sharply increasing then one can be positive about the PPS increase. I cannot take a position (as my monies are tied up). But I will as soon as I can find some! TIA

starfire, you are getting into a trap I once got in.  Let the indicator analysis go unless you can truly make it secondary.  You must focus on the thing that makes/takes your money..Price and Volume.

I always remember this line:

To gain knowledge, add things everyday
To gain wisdom, remove things everyday

and it means to me:
you can learn things that are unneeded
to truly be wise you must filter through the noise to the essential.

Post by: Ramsburg on July 06, 2005, 10:36:18 AM
I confess that I was not expecting a pullback today... It sucks...But technically speaking, it's completely normal, and it may be good for the further development of this chart pattern.

As you can see on my yesterday chart (http://www.3stocksonfire.org/trading/index.php?topic=1218.msg7074#msg7074), the 0.21/0.22 price level was the earlier resistance, the breakout zone, and it should act as a support level now.

I've bought some more now @ .225 , the chart only start to get scary bellow the 0.19 level...

Good luck with NVAS, personally I don't like it so much. I think it will retrace some. Everytime it spikes the top of the bollinger bands it comes back, more recently the retracements are shallower though so that is a positive. If I were to buy I would be looking $0.20 / $0.18.
Good luck and hope I am wrong ;)

:) I thought I'd share this with you:

Statement of Paul Carter, CEO, Novastar Resources in Response to International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Recommendation on the Exploration and Prospecting of Thorium Minerals
07/06/2005 13:30
The following is a statement from Paul Carter, CEO, Novastar Resources, Ltd. (OTCBB: NVAS) regarding the May 2005 IAEA report "Thorium fuel cycle - Potential benefits and challenges," which recommends both the exploration and prospecting of Thorium Minerals to enhance global supplies:

"We are very pleased and encouraged to learn that such an honorable and well respected organization as the IAEA has found the benefits of Thorium as a safe nuclear fuel great enough to warrant a recommendation for the acquisition of Thorium mineral properties around the world. We have known of these benefits for some time now and they are the driving force behind Novastar's business model. As a result of the IAEA's recommendations and support, Novastar will continue to aggressively pursue economically viable Thorium properties and stockpiles. The company has established a corporate goal to position itself as a significant global supplier of Thorium compounds in anticipation of increased global demand, as governments around the world consider the incalculable environmental and economic benefits of Thorium utilization."

The report cites the numerous environmental and social benefits derived from using the Thorium fuel cycle to generate nuclear power. The IAEA noted that despite the fact that Thorium is more abundant in nature, global stockpiled Uranium reserves are three times greater than Thorium reserves. As a result, the International Atomic Energy Agency officially recommended that activities on exploration and prospecting of thorium minerals need to be augmented all over the world (p. 90, (i) Recommendations).

The full IAEA report, can be accessed via the web at:

http://www-pub.iaea.org/MTCD/publications/PDF/TE_1450_web.pdf

Furthermore, the Thorium-Cycle can effectively and efficiently power electricity generating nuclear reactors, while greatly limiting the production of weapons grade Plutonium (Pu 239) along with other toxic transuranic waste bi-products.

About Novastar Resources

Novastar Resources, Ltd., is a global supplier of commercial grade Thorium compounds and rare earth elements. Thorium is a naturally occurring nuclear energy source more efficient and far less radioactive than Uranium. The company's stock is traded and quoted on the OTC Bulletin Board under the symbol NVAS. Additional information is available on the company's website at www.novastarresources.com.

Cheers!

Title: Re: NVAS
Post by: Ramsburg on July 06, 2005, 03:29:52 PM

It's strange... and it's hard  :(
But sometimes the market works like that...

From a TA point of view, a pullback is normal, the .21/.22 price level should work has a support, .18/.19 is another support...

I'm holding this one... it would not be the first time to watch a pullback like this before another big white candle...
Title: general question
Post by: vic666 on July 06, 2005, 04:38:58 PM

if the BID on a stock is "x" and the ASK is "y", and I'm putting in a sell order for less than "x", but not getting filled, what could that mean??

Title: Re: NVAS
Post by: starfire on July 06, 2005, 04:45:36 PM
".......global stockpiled Uranium reserves are three times greater than Thorium reserves..............."

I believe people think that Uranium will be consumed (as they are readily usable) and as such Thorium's time has yet to come of vogue! I think people misundertstood the statement. A correction could come tomorrow if a PR states taht a certain reactor is alreday using Thorium!!!! JMO
Title: Re: NVAS
Post by: vic666 on July 06, 2005, 04:46:43 PM
then why doesn't the BID reflect that? why would it show higher than the lowest price one is willing to sell (in this case, my price)...and the stranger thing was, a buy order got filled at at the ASK at the ASK at the same time I put my 'lower then bid' sell order !!

thx.
Title: Re: NVAS
Post by: vic666 on July 06, 2005, 04:49:29 PM
were they talking about U-238 or U-235 when they said "uranium reserves", if it was U-238, it would not mean squat as it ain;t usable in that form...gotta be refined to U-235 to be used in reactors as fuel...

That was an ugly ugly move today...even with the good news...hmmm  :-\

Lets see if it can bounce right back and over tomorrow.  There was lots of volume these past 2 days.  The 2 highest in the company's history.  I am holding my whole position.  The chart still looks good to me.  8)

Title: Re: NVAS
Post by: vic666 on July 06, 2005, 05:04:00 PM
I think the move today was helped by the fact that 0.30 was such strong resistance...usually after a long white candle like yesterdays', stocks gap up in the morning...but 0.30 being such big resistance, we did not see that today, may be that was the earliest hint about a down day today, anyways, just looking back and speculating...

thats correct, we technically still have higher highs and higher lows today....let's see what tomorrow brings...I was gonna add more today but decided to wait.

man-o-man, if only we break 0.30, we will fly high!
Title: Re: NVAS

It sure is hard to know when to buy.  Here I thought it would open over .30 today and that I may have to chase it up.

It's amazing how erratic stocks can act at times.
I am really hoping that we get back in the mid-upper .20's tomorrow.  For my sanity, if not for the money  :P

NVAS did not want to go up today.  :-X Perhaps it is waiting for next week?  >:D  It is at support and although I like this play long-term...a lot... I may have to let it go if it closes beneath next week.  Either this play is too early or non-existant.  What do you guys think?  Depressing so far.  I know we all didn't create 4million volume on 7/5.  Go to your local store and pick up some Thorium!  :D lol  Have a good weekend everybody.  ;D

I think this has had its run from .20 to .30. The comments by the CEO the other day should have been the sign that all he was trying to do was keep the stock price up, but the market is too smart for his PR bullshit. I think there may be something here long-term, but for the short term, I would bail because I don't feel there is anything behind the movement.

News out.

Novastar Resources In Negotiations to Acquire Interest in Second Australian Thorium Property
Wednesday July 13, 12:45 pm ET

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 13, 2005--Novastar Resources Ltd. (OTCBB: NVAS - News) has announced that it is in negotiations to acquire an interest in a second Thorium property in Australia. In April of this year, Novastar Resources acquired its first Thorium property in Queensland, Australia.
Negotiations for the second property commenced two weeks ago as Novastar is committed to pursuing the acquisition of both domestic and international Thorium stockpiles and in-ground reserves. Consummation of any final agreement is subject to positive feasibility and drilling reports. The Company has also noticed a significant increase in Thorium mining activity within Australia.

As part of Novastar's overall business strategy, the Company has prioritized the positioning of itself as a major global supplier of Thorium compounds. The company anticipates a surge in international demand, for Thorium, as world governments learn about the economic, environmental and social benefits of Thorium utilization. In addition Novastar Resources is focusing on strategic partnerships with United States based companies, as a means of generating national interest in Thorium based solutions.

Paul Carter, President of Novastar Resources, stated "Novastar is actively seeking to secure interests in as many econimically feasible Thorium properties as possible. Novastar will continue to invest in the future of alternative energy, through future acquisitions in the space"

There is increasing interest in utilizing Thorium as a nuclear fuel because Thorium is a more efficient nuclear fuel and far less radioactive than Uranium.

About Novastar Resources

Novastar Resources, Ltd. is a publicly traded company within the commercial mining sector and is a significant commercial mining source of Thorium, a naturally occurring nuclear energy more efficient and far less radioactive than Uranium. The company's stock is traded and quoted on the OTC Bulletin Board under the symbol NVAS. Further information is available on the company's website at www.novastarresources.com.

Thorium Power CEO Takes Seat on Novastar Resources Board
07/14/2005 10:30
Novastar Resources (OTCBB: NVAS) a significant global supplier of Thorium, a naturally occurring nuclear energy source, today announced that Seth Grae, President and CEO, Thorium Power, Inc., a privately-held Washington, DC area-based company that develops and deploys nuclear fuel designs developed to stop the production of weapons suitable plutonium and eliminate existing plutonium stockpiles, has been appointed to Novastar's Board of Advisors.

In addition to leveraging existing energy industry and government relationships, Mr. Grae will work with Novastar's executive team to effectively structure and implement a wide range of international business transactions in the areas of nuclear non-proliferation and energy generation.

"We are delighted to have Seth join our board," said Paul Carter, CEO, Novastar Resources. "He has a number of years of nuclear industry experience under his belt and is highly regarded as an innovator and savvy business leader. His skills, expertise and leadership will benefit us greatly."

Mr. Grae joined Thorium Power in 1992 and has held various executive positions with the company. He has set and implemented the company's strategy and led the company's efforts in structuring relationships with major companies, government agencies, universities, laboratories, and international organizations in several countries. Mr. Grae holds a B.A. Cum Laude in Economics from Brandeis University, a J.D. from American University, an LL.M. with Honors in International Law from Georgetown University, and an MBA from Georgetown University.

Over the last 30 years there has been increasing interest in utilizing Thorium as a nuclear fuel because Thorium is a more efficient nuclear fuel than Uranium. Also, all of the mined thorium is potentially useable in a reactor, compared with the 0.7% of natural uranium, so some 40 times the amount of energy per unit mass might be available. I was looking at the chart on this stock and noticed that it has a pattern of a falling wedge, than moves back up to a higher wedge formation.  It will be interesting to see if it follows the pattern of breaks from it.  I didn't get in today, perhaps on consolidation - new wedge.

I believe this stock is acting in accordance to its cyclical nature and I will be suprised if I don't see it move some time this week ;D

I bought in on the pullback, and still holding.

This one I broke the cardinal rule of averaging down and got buried.  I thought I was alone on this one.  Apparently not.  I am afraid even if we get a run that there will be many like myself just happy to get out, slowing the momo.  Hopefully larger forces will come to play with this one.  Maybe we will find out what was behind all the volume a short time back, and it will be good news.

Novastar Resources Names General Ronald R. Fogleman to the Advisory Board
Tuesday September 27, 10:30 am ET

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 27, 2005--Novastar Resources (OTCBB:NVAS - News) a commercial mining firm engaged in the exploration of Thorium and Rare Earth Metals today announced that, General Ronald R. Fogleman, Chairman and CEO of Durango Aerospace Incorporated, an international aviation consulting firm with a client list that includes Boeing, FMC, Northrop Grumman, Raytheon and RSL Electronics, among others, has been appointed to the Company's Board of Advisors.

General Fogleman will assist Novastar Resources, by providing introductions to key government officials and nuclear and defense industry executives, and by assisting with development of business strategies to raise the awareness of the benefits of Thorium as a proliferation-resistant and environmentally safe nuclear energy source.

"One of Novastar's key missions is to become the leading global supplier of Thorium to the nuclear energy industry; the addition of General Fogleman to our Board of Advisors adds a significant amount of understanding of the political, environmental and financial framework of the government and nuclear energy communities," said Paul Carter, CEO, Novastar Resources, Ltd.

General Ronald R. Fogleman retired from the USAF in September 1997 after thirty-four years of active commissioned service. On his final tour of duty General Fogleman served as the 15th Chief of Staff of the U.S. Air Force and a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He currently sits on the board of directors for AAR Corp, Alliant Techsystems, First National Bank of Durango, IDC, Mesa Air Group, MITRE Corporation, Rolls-Royce North America, Thales-Raytheon Systems, and is Non-Executive Chairman of World Airways.

General Fogleman received his Bachelor's degree from the USAF Academy and a Master's degree in Military History and Political Science from Duke University.

Over the last 30 years there has been increasing interest in utilizing Thorium as a nuclear fuel because Thorium is a more efficient nuclear fuel and far less radioactive than Uranium. It is a key factor in the sustainability of proliferation-resistant and environmentally-safe nuclear energy.

Friday January 6, 10:10 am ET
Effective January 07, 2006

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 6, 2006--Novastar Resources Ltd. (OTCBB:NVAS - News) has today announced the delisting of its common shares from the Berlin-Bremin Stock Exchange of Germany (Effective 01/07/2006). In late August 2005, shares of Novastar Resources were listed on the abovementioned stock exchange without any knowledge or authorization from management. The Company has taken numerous steps to reverse this unapproved foreign listing and has finally succeeded.

Thousands of U.S. based companies have learned of the unauthorized listings of their shares on this same German stock exchange. It has been alleged by many companies, that such a listing is detrimental to shareholder value. Foreign securities regulations are different from those of the United States, therefore market activity illegal in the U.S. may be commonplace in Germany as well as other nations.

Commenting on the delisting Novastar Resources COO, Dr. Charles Merchant stated "We are very pleased to announce the successful delisting of Novastar Resources shares from this German exchange, after two months of persistent efforts. It is disturbing, though, that something of this nature can occur without any knowledge or approval by the Company."

I've been watching it since you posted.  I wish I would'a.  Very cool.  8) Nice pick.  I think that it is possible that it could retrace to the .30, then right back up, could happen really quick and painless, if it did I would enter.  We should be looking for more of these German delistings of US stocks.  Seems to be very positive not to have somebody shorting you in another time zone.   Again, nice job.  Sick actually.  I'll fav this board

Thanks everyone for the appluads on this one.

Let me just say that I have only ever recommended 2 stocks here on 3sof, that being NNVC.PK, which went from .12 at my rec to a high of $2.80 or around there, and now NVAS.OB, from .19 or so to a high of .75 today.

I am still holding free shares of both these companies as I sold over 1/2 my position at a 100% profit in each of them, I really need to play it safe these days, and selling half at 100% allows me to protect ALL of my original investment.

I completely lucked out on both.  When I tell you that most of what I invest in usually goes straight down, I am not kidding. If I could turn all my buys over the past 5 years into shorts, I would rich, however I wound up being a big bagholder on most of my investments and lost the better part of my portfolio.  I even had to leave 3sof as a premium member because I was losing money still.  I am not blaming anyone but myself for that, I dont have enough money to play the picks correctly, and seemingly would pick the wrong ones out of the bunch.

At any rate, preservation of capital being of the most importance, I am riding free shares only now in both these companies.  NNVC is around 2.00 now and NVAS is at .65 for a close today I believe.  Although I do believe in the potential of these 2 companies, I would highly suggest following the "sell half at 100% strategy" for these 2.  Yes it may go higher, but it may also go straight down to .01 taking your entire investment with it. Selling half is a happy medium between profits and the stress incurred by holding .PK and .OB stocks.

Good luck everyone, I hope some were able to make money on these.

Yes, this broke out of its channel very nicely on highest volume day ever.

This stock used to be NVAS.

There was an 8-k out after hours friday.  Also, a couple of form 4's, they were awarded shares at .45. What does that mean exactly? They get the shares or are able to sell the shares when the pps hits .45...not sure what these actually represent...any clarification on this would be greatly appreciated :)

since the amount is very small, it doesn't matter much to me. My guess is the company is paying this director with shares. they just set a price of .45. so people can see the stock is undervalued.

It seems to me the company has not income yet, just running around trying to get a contract or two. This india thing can be good if it works out.

Symmetrical Triangle (Continuation) Pattern

The symmetrical triangle, which can also be referred to as a coil, usually forms during a trend as a continuation pattern. The pattern contains at least two lower highs and two higher lows. When these points are connected, the lines converge as they are extended and the symmetrical triangle takes shape. You could also think of it as a contracting wedge, wide at the beginning and narrowing over time.

While there are instances when symmetrical triangles mark important trend reversals, they more often mark a continuation of the current trend. Regardless of the nature of the pattern, continuation or reversal, the direction of the next major move can only be determined after a valid breakout.

Edwards and Magee suggest that roughly 75% of symmetrical triangles are continuation patterns and the rest mark reversals. The reversal patterns can be especially difficult to analyze and often have false breakouts. Even so, we should not anticipate the direction of the breakout, but rather wait for it to happen. Further analysis should be applied to the breakout by looking for gaps, accelerated price movements, and volume for confirmation. Confirmation is especially important for upside breakouts.

Prices sometimes return to the breakout point of apex on a reaction move before resuming in the direction of the breakout. This return can offer a second chance to participate with a better reward to risk ratio. Potential reward price targets found by measurement and parallel trend line extension are only meant to act as rough guidelines. Technical analysis is dynamic and ongoing assessment is required. In the first example above, SUNW may have fulfilled its target (42) in a few months, but the stock gave no sign of slowing down and advanced above 100 in the following months.

Interesting technology, gonna watch this one ;)

Thorium Power is a nuclear energy pioneer and the leading developer of thorium-based nuclear fuels.

We are currently qualifying our proprietary thorium-based fuel designs for use in existing and future commercial nuclear reactors. These designs have three major benefits:

    * Proliferation-resistant fuel cycle - no production of nuclear weapons-usable materials in spent fuel
    * Reduced nuclear waste
    * Improved industry operating economics

We also offer services to companies and governments planning to create or expand electricity generation capabilities using nuclear power plants benefiting from thorium-based fuels.

Thorium Power Provides Business Update for the Second Quarter of 2007
Thursday August 9, 1:01 pm ET

Reports on High Level Discussions With Foreign Governments and Global Enterprises for the Deployment of Non-Proliferative, Low-Waste Nuclear Fuel

MCLEAN, VA--(MARKET WIRE)--Aug 9, 2007 -- Thorium Power Ltd. (OTC BB:THPW.OB - News), the leading developer of low-waste, non-proliferative nuclear fuel technology for existing and future reactors, today provided a business update for the second quarter ended June 30, 2007

Seth Grae, CEO of Thorium Power, stated, "We are making strides in bringing our thorium-based fuel designs to the forefront as a viable solution to nuclear proliferation concerns and environmental issues around the world. Specific to Thorium Power, in recent communications we have indicated we are actively engaged in very high level discussions with foreign governments and global commercial entities regarding the utilization of Thorium Power's fuel designs in existing and new reactors that are slated to be built or are in the planning stage. These discussions, confidential as they are, continue to progress diligently. We continue to be both confident and encouraged by the level of interest in our fuel designs."

In general, interest in thorium-based fuels continues to gain momentum as a number of countries publicly state their interest in the fuel source. Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, India's ex-president and one of the country's foremost scientists, continues to reiterate his steadfast support for a thorium-based nuclear industry. Furthermore, India's Cabinet recently approved the US-India nuclear cooperation agreement, bringing both countries ever closer to completing the landmark deal. Elsewhere, there have been positive developments in Scandinavia with Sweden and Norway now actively seeking to utilize thorium fuel designs. All of these notable developments are closely aligned with the publication of major research reports (OECD, PricewaterhouseCoopers, BP) marking the global resurgence of nuclear energy and growing interest from "new nuclear" nations such as India.

Mr. Grae continued, "It is quite important for both investors and industry to recognize the significant uniqueness of our fuel designs. Most importantly, Thorium Power's proprietary technology is proliferation resistant. Quite simply, Thorium Power's fuel designs do not produce weapons-usable materials in spent fuel. Additionally, our fuels significantly reduce nuclear waste, yielding approximately fifty percent reduction by volume, seventy percent reduction by weight, and ninety percent reduction in long-term radio-toxicity."

"Changing the status quo is not an easy task, but we took on the challenge in 1991 when Dr. Alvin Radkowsky, a co-founder of Thorium Power and a pioneer designer of nuclear fuels and reactors, approached us to transform his latest fuel designs into a commercially viable solution to nuclear proliferation and the increasing burdens of nuclear waste. We have since moved beyond the science phase, and our fuels have been undergoing a demonstration process in a research reactor and test facilities in Russia for over three years. We have built a very strong patent portfolio and look forward to filing additional patents that we expect to provide patent protection for an additional 20 years from the date of filing."

Mr. Grae concluded, "Overall, we are extremely encouraged by the outlook for the business heading into the second half of 2007 with a diverse portfolio of market opportunities and a marked increase in interest for thorium-based nuclear fuels around the world. In the months ahead, we will pursue these opportunities with the help of our technical and international advisory boards, both of which are comprised of key industry leaders, including former executives of both Westinghouse and GE Nuclear that have successfully and profitably deployed nuclear fuels and nuclear reactors around the world."

Total revenue for the three months ended June 30, 2007 was $0, compared to $0 for the same period in 2006. Operating loss for the three months ended June 30, 2007 was $2.5 million, compared to operating loss of $26,000 for the same period last year. Net loss for the three months ended June 30, 2007 was $2.5 million, or $0.01 per share, compared to net loss of $581,000 or $0.01 per share, for the same period in 2006. As of June 30, 2007, the company had approximately $7.7 million of cash and cash equivalents and $7.2 million of working capital.

EnergyWashington Week

Hatch Drafts Legislation To Ease Nuclear Waste Concerns

Sen. Orrin Hatch (D-UT) is drafting legislation intended to ease concerns about nuclear waste by requiring DOE to develop standards for nuclear reactors to use thorium fuel rather than uranium, sources say. The legislation is expected to be offered for consideration in upcoming negotiations on a final energy bill.

The nuclear industry is expecting an expansion in response to increased concerns about global warming and energy security, but nuclear opponents argue long-standing concerns about radioactive waste disposal and nuclear weapons proliferation should soften federal support for new reactors.

A source in Hatch's office says the upcoming bill is seen as "breaching the gap" between nuclear proponents and those "opposed to the transport of [nuclear] waste out to one site," a group that includes Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV). The source says the bill is being shopped to Reid and Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee Chairman Jeff Bingaman (D-NM). Calls to Reid's office were not returned.

Proponents say the thorium fuel cycle produces one third the radioactive waste that uranium does, which could help alleviate concerns about disposal and the potential use of enriched spent fuels in nuclear weapons by rogue states and potential terrorists. Hatch's "Thorium Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007" will be introduced in the next few weeks with the hope it could become part of an energy bill making its way through an informal House/Senate conference, a source familiar with the bill says.

The bill would would establish offices at DOE and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to provide "incentives to nuclear reactor operators in the United States and foreign countries to use proliferation-resistant, low-waste thorium fuels in lieu of other fuels," according to a draft version of the bill. The plan would also require DOE's Idaho National Engineering Laboratory to establish demonstration projects using the thorium fuel cycle.

Proponents of the bill say thorium fuel can power a reactor far longer than uranium, and therefore less waste is produced that needs to be transported or stored at a permanent or interim disposal facility. The thorium fuel cycle results in less fissile material than the use of uranium, and so it is less susceptible for use in the proliferation of nuclear weapons, according to the World Nuclear Association. "The spent fuel amounts to about half the volume of MOX [mixed oxide fuel] and is even less likely to allow recovery of weapons-usable material than spent MOX fuel, since less fissile plutonium remains in it," according to a May report by the group.

A Virginia-based company involved in developing power plants fueled by thorium says on its website that the fuel has "the potential to eliminate existing plutonium stockpiles." A report from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) says the production of fissile material in a plant using thorium fuel is "an order of magnitude lower than uranium."

Proponents also say thorium is three- to four-times more common than uranium, and many existing nuclear power plants can be relatively easily retrofitted to accept the fuel. The U.S. has the fourth largest amount of "economically recoverable" reserves in the world, according to the WNA report. The world's largest reserves are in Australia, India and Norway.

But the fuel does have its drawbacks. A source with the Nuclear Energy Institute says it is more costly to work with and harder to handle because the radiation is "bone seeking." Thorium was considered on par with uranium during the early days of the nuclear power industry, but the push for enriched weapons grade fuel favored uranium, according to a Senate source.

A nuclear power opponent with an environmental group says there is "no real advantage to a thorium fuel cycle" and dismisses claims about reduced waste and proliferation concerns as "overblown." The source says thorium is not widely used in the United States because it involves "very complicated chemistry." Many of the same health concerns that exist for uranium also hold true for thorium, including cancer risks, according the source.
