Title: Session of 01/22/2007
Post by: David Randolph on January 22, 2007, 09:30:07 AM
Good morning :)

This thread will be used for today's 3 minute look on stocks that you suggest, as we look for nice momentum picks for the 3 Stocks on Fire Portfolio (http://www.3stocksonfire.org/3stocksonfire_3sof.php).

I know that I'll miss many things about the stocks analyzed, and even make some  mistakes, because I'll be looking at those stocks for the first time. If you detect those mistakes or relevant issues missing, feel free to post them and correct me. Thanks :)

Trades executed will be placed on the 3 Stocks on Fire Portfolio (http://www.3stocksonfire.org/3stocksonfire_3sof.php) and on the Trades (http://www.3stocksonfire.org/trading/index.php?topic=8769.msg85111#msg85111) thread (also on this thread).

To suggest a stock (or if you just want a quick opinion on a stock), all you have to do is reply this thread with the stock's symbol (if you want add relevant information that may help the analysis).

Let's start this, thanks for your participation :)

SLGLF.OB could be on fire today due to news.  Over 500000 traded already. ;)
Title: Re: The market is OPEN
Post by: David Randolph on January 22, 2007, 09:37:06 AM
EXCS.OB sold @ $0.085.

Short justification:

- Wednesday's press release says December sales were up 157% from November's levels, but there's no information about November's numbers, so revenues can be up 157% from a very small base.

- The balance sheet shows they'll need to dilute shareholder value going forward.

- I got a 37.5% profit in two days on this "orange". Not sure if there's any more juice to squeeze. Time to move on to another speculative play.

(you can see this posted on the Trades (http://www.3stocksonfire.org/trading/index.php?topic=8769.0) thread and the 3 Stocks on Fire Portfolio (http://www.3stocksonfire.org/3stocksonfire_3sof.php))

Already at $0.016, great boatguy !

I don't like the news item moving the stock (more exposure to investors doesn't add fundamental value), but explosive volume, good luck :)

SGLF.OB 3 minute look:

I don't think the news is significant enough. SLGLF.OB has a story of deceiving investors and it still is a $55 M market cap company. Chart is bullish, though.

EFUT 3 minute look:

http://video.google.com/googleplayer.swf?docId=8167185821813946702&hl=en

I'm undecided on EFUT, the news with JNJ looks big but there are no details. There was a significant gap up at the open with volume above average. I see a resistance level at $39.93.

On the fundamental side I didn't find information for the latest 3 quarters ... and generally I find recent IPO stocks as lousy investments/trades.

Good luck though, hard decision on EFUT.

3 minute look on SKNN.OB:

http://video.google.com/googleplayer.swf?docId=6498476624070211519&hl=en

I had already covered this stock, I'm not a fan of it as you can read on the Penny Stock Picking Board. Now about $72 M market cap and zero sales. Balance sheet is very weak, I fear dilution, and I fear the product won't be so hot, because each pair of skins will cost what, $250?

Can be wrong, though ... good luck guys :)

ION 3 minute look:

http://video.google.com/googleplayer.swf?docId=3962327486356750802&hl=en

ION had huge losses over the past 3 quarters, now there's hope of a rescue from a major TV network, but I don't know if that isn't priced in already, seems like it is losing momentum.

The general market is looking tough today.

JADE 3 minute look:

Great stock, looks kind of extended now, up about 50% over the last month or so, but perhaps there's still upside here. I'll have a further look, JADE is a good candidate, thanks nica33 :)

VIP looks like breaking out to new all time high, but this is a $16 B market cap company, we're looking for small cap momentum stocks.

Thanks for VIP, vip ;D

David, I am wondering why you decided to sell EXCS.ob on basis of not knowing what November sales were, especially when fundamentals are not supposed to be the sole basis for these trades. ???  I would think with such short term momentum you would look to sell on technical weakness, not specualtion of what sales were in November.  Of course you have to do what you feel is best for the portfolio.  I'll continue to hold and try to add more around .06, Good luck to everyone. ;)

3 minute look for SNCR:

http://video.google.com/googleplayer.swf?docId=-3841516575134520838&hl=en

Valuation is rich, almost half a billion market cap now and not on fire over the short term. There's revenue and profit growth but I guess that is already priced in. I always fear dilution when considering recent IPO stocks.

Thanks for the suggestion stock, good luck on SNCR if you hold it :)

Hi ScottishTrader, shouldn't you be working on your Phd? ;D

Nevermind, I'm glad you're here :). Well, HOKU is a great speculative stock, but I'm expecting to pick it up at the mid range of the gap opened you know, around $4.20 or so. I don't like successive news and I see fear unfolding when/if it starts filling that gap.

That's when I'll grab it for fundamental reasons and expect it to bounce strongly. I see it as a risky play at current levels, because the market cap more or less reflects the news already ... well, I'm not sure on this, of course, but I'll pass it for now, thanks Scottish :)

Totally agreed that SKNN makes no money, dont blame you for not getting in here.  The irony for me is that a company that makes no money has been my biggest gainer since I bought it back a few days ago and this market started going down recently, and also last month (made close to 80% then) but you have to take it where you can get it sometimes...

I know the story, very small cap of about $32 M. I don't consider it on fire today because it opened with a gap up and is fighting with the 50 days SMA (working as a resistance level now).

I guess it can bounce, but not on fire today, good luck :)

Hi pompano, I look for technical plays but also fundamental imbalances. I guess EXCS released that 157% month on month growth number to impress (but with no absolute value), but I don't like to be impressed by words, just real numbers. As most penny stocks, EXCS can go back down to where it came from, after some dilution along the way.

I'll probably never buy it again, the party looks over. But very good luck, and thanks pompano, awesome suggestion yesterday :o

Yes Terliso, probably it would be easier to find momentum stocks on the short side today. But it is a whole lot harder to make money shorting than buying (even in a bear market (and I believe we're in a bull market), very difficult to hold those shorts).

I'll stay on the bull camp, as I'll keep looking for small cap momentum stocks. But thanks :)

3 minute look on CVDT.OB:

http://video.google.com/googleplayer.swf?docId=-335896008177680714&hl=en

The chart looks nice, but this is one of the most overvalued stocks I've ever seen, with about $220 M market cap and no relevant revenues. This is a former mining company wanna be, now into VOIP, I don't like that.

I would buy EGHT instead, much lower market cap and also a VOIP play, and real revenues to show. I see just hype on CVDT.OB, and dilution will follow, I guess.

I see a positive fundamental turnaround in ORCH in 2006, so the current bullish trend may continue. But not on fire today, just 69,000 shares traded so far in the session.

ORCH 3 minute look:

ok ok David, of course you are right (I should be studying).  Only one more suggestion for you to have a look at as a possible short term mover: AAGH

Technically looks very nice, breaking out of an inverse H&S.  Fundamentally its a mystery though, couldn't find anything much on yahoo.  They are involved in chinese TV and entertainment.

3 minute look on MIVT.OB:

http://video.google.com/googleplayer.swf?docId=7719470798142306986&hl=en

DORB.OB 3 minute look:

http://video.google.com/googleplayer.swf?docId=-6423782083191013616&hl=en

CTIC has made an acquisition proposal at about $50 M for DORB, the current market cap is about $38 M (I didn't have time to check if there are any convertible debentures or convertible notes), so the acquisition price is something like $0.55.

This could be nice for arbitrage players, but not for me, I see this stock being put to sleep around $0.45 - $0.50 for a long time as this acquisition process evolves.

3 minute look on HGR:

Finally, we have a winner ! (at least, I hope so)

HGR was added to the 3 Stocks on Fire Portfolio (http://www.3stocksonfire.org/3stocksonfire_3sof.php) at $8.76. Not a sexy play, but moving higher today on volume above average and fundamentals look attractive.

Let's see if we can find more stocks on fire today >:D

ARTX 3 minute look:

http://video.google.com/googleplayer.swf?docId=-8475499872021934232&hl=en

I can see the third quarter was much better than the previous two quarters, and that at least partially explains the 200% rise since November's lows.

The stock can move further up, the chart is certainly bullish, but I fear a pullback is coming since it is approaching an important long term resistance level around $5.
Title: Re: The market is OPEN
Post by: David Randolph on January 22, 2007, 03:37:06 PM
CECE 3 minute look:

http://video.google.com/googleplayer.swf?docId=4059635027639177654&hl=en

At first sight CECE is a great stock to own, with both technicals and fundamentals pointing north. I'll consider it for a deeper study and perhaps a longer term investment.

It might pullback some though (and that would present a nice buying opportunity), as it is facing a medium term resistance around $13.

SGTL 3 minute look:

http://video.google.com/googleplayer.swf?docId=-209491521976380092&hl=en

SGTL is not on fire, despite being up 10% or so, because it is trading below the open. The chart is bearish and fundamentals show a worsening picture from 2005, but perhaps that is already discounted since the stock is down from about $45 in 2005 to the current $4.07 :P

I'm neutral on this stock but I wouldn't buy it right now. Good luck though :)

Another strong day for the 3 Stocks on Fire Portfolio (http://www.3stocksonfire.org/3stocksonfire_3sof.php), up 18% or so in its first two days, from $15,000 to about $17,775.

Of course, don't expect this performance everyday, there will be down days along the way.

But, so far, so good, let the good times roll 8)

See you tomorrow !
