I like the high and tight consolidation as seen on this chart. I'm a buyer on a breakout at $25 with strong volume. If it gets through the IPO day resistance, it's a winner.
GO IN THAT HOUSE OF PAIN THAT YOU SEEM TO WANT TO BE IN, BUT GET AWAY FROM ME.  I'M TRYING TO WORK, DAMMIT.

Liquid Stick

Yes i like this stock as well.  But am likely less cautious with the timing of the buy.  I believe it safe to buy if CLWR if today is to close above yesterdays high.  There is however a caveat to that scenario.  The close for today must be at or near the high of the day today.  Such that todays candle is akin to a hammer or dragonfly doji.  Just my two cents.  If, this scenario does occur I'd suspect that CLWR will gap above 25.
In the world, of gifts from god, I succumbed to mediocrite and settled for engineer.  When here is where I belong.

OK, JMHO...  ;) or 2 cents worth 8)
Clearwire has some serious potential in the Wifi market to grab Market share from the likes of wireline distributors such as Comcast, etc... They need some time to build out their network, and of course there is some speed that you sacrifice, however in time both of these obstacles will be irrelevant.
Growth is the story...
The growth story is just beginning.  Give this baby a little more time, and it should rocket right up through the $50 buck barrier, so long as the markets remain bullish.

Please notice there is a nice bullish flag that formed since the first gap up.This represents consolidation, as day-traders and swing traders take their profits and sell, the big-time hedgies and institutions may be picking up these cheaper shares, and preparing to take it to higher levels soon...this notion comes from the fact that the selling that took place has been light (notice low volume bars), meaning the big players are holding their shares tight to the vest, but letting the discount brokers' swing traders rush out the exit door with their tidy little $5 gain per share....lol!  :D :D :D ;)

Now on any pullback, dip whatever you want to call it,
Buy the dip potato chip  ;D  ;)

Clearwire Shares Soar on Sprint Deal
Thursday July 19, 1:17 pm ET
Clearwire Shares Up More Than 40 Percent to New High on Sprint Wimax Deal

NEW YORK (AP) -- Clearwire Corp.'s shares soared 43 percent Thursday to their highest level since the wireless Internet service provider went public in March, after saying it will team with Sprint Nextel Corp. to build a WiMax network.

WiMax provides wireless Internet speeds comparable to DSL or cable modems. It is similar to the WiFi technology used in airports and coffee shops, but provides coverage to much larger areas.

The companies said they expect to start rolling out the service in Chicago, Washington and Baltimore by the end of the year.

"Clearwire and Sprint are natural partners," wrote Stifel Nicolaus analyst Christopher King in a note to investors. "The agreement announced today, however, comes sooner than we anticipated and also describes an arrangement that is more comprehensive than we were expecting."

The 20-year partnership has three 10-year renewal periods and is expected to cover 300 million potential customers in the U.S. The companies hope to have WiMax service available to 100 million people by the end of next year.

Founded by cell phone pioneer Craig McCaw in 2003, Clearwire completed its IPO in March. The IPO was not as successful as some had hoped, as critics said underwriters sold too many shares at too high a price. McCaw, a Seattle-based billionaire, owned McCaw Cellular, which was eventually acquired by AT&T.

"We believe this announcement is especially positive for Clearwire as any cost savings will slow the company's cash burn rate and ease some of (investors') concerns over the company's future capital requirements," King wrote.

Alvarion Ltd., an Israeli wireless broadband systems provider, saw its stock add 67 cents, or more than 5 percent, to hit a 52-week high of $11.35.

"While many investors focus on WiMax deployments by Sprint and Clearwire, we believe there are numerous bidding opportunities for Alvarion outside of the U.S.," wrote Oppenheimer analyst Lawrence M. Harris in a note to clients.

Earlier in the day, Alvarion said it received a WiMax order in Uganda, with an initial launch in Kampala, the African country's capital.

"The value of the initial contract is probably a few million dollars. However, the carrier's plans call for deployment in 30 other Ugandan cities," Harris wrote.

Shares of Kirkland, Wash.-based Clearwire rose $8.20, or 33.1 percent, to $32.98 in afternoon trading, having earlier hit a new high of $35.41. The stock previously traded between $15.81 and $27.95 since its IPO.

Sprint's shares slid 12 cents to $22.04.

Shares of Airspan Networks Inc., a small wireless products and services company that also offers WiMax, rose 23 cents, or 7.3 percent, to $3.38. The stock has traded between $1.71 and $5.05 in the past year.

AP
Sprint, Clearwire Team Up on New Network
Thursday July 19, 5:06 pm ET
By David Twiddy, AP Business Writer
Sprint Nextel to Team Up With Clearwire on WiMax Network

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Almost a year after Sprint Nextel Corp. announced it would develop a mobile broadband network using WiMax technology, the wireless provider said Thursday it was teaming up with competing provider Clearwire Corp. to help build it.

WiMax provides wireless Internet speeds comparable to DSL or cable modems. Similar to the Wi-Fi technology used in airports and coffee shops, WiMax can provide coverage to much larger areas.

Sprint Nextel and Clearwire, founded four years ago by cell phone pioneer Craig McCaw, said they plan to begin rolling out the service in Chicago, Washington and Baltimore by the end of the year and have it available to 100 million people by the end of 2008.

Ultimately, the 20-year partnership, with three 10-year renewal periods, is expected to cover 300 million potential customers in the U.S.

The deal ignited Clearwire shares, which rose $8.52, or 34 percent, to $33.30 Thursday after rising to a 52-week high of $35.41 earlier in the session. Sprint Nextel shares fell 15 cents, or 0.68 percent, to $22.01.

Teaming up with Clearwire will help cut the costs for Sprint Nextel, which predicted it would spend $3 billion through 2008 to build the network when it first announced the plan last August. While company officials wouldn't give out numbers Thursday, they noted Sprint Nextel's share will be 70 percent of what it would have been without a partner.

"We've made tremendous progress in bringing our vision to life over the past year," Gary Forsee, Sprint Nextel's chief executive officer told analysts in a conference call. "Today's announcement with Clearwire supports that vision as we plan to combine our efforts and expand the reach of mobile broadband services through a common brand, distribution and customer experience."

Sprint Nextel, based in Reston, Va., with operational headquarters in Overland Park, Kan., will oversee roughly 65 percent of the network, including 75 percent of people in the 50 largest markets.

Clearwire, based in Kirkland, Wash., will focus on 35 percent of the area, although its share will be smaller in the initial years because Sprint Nextel has developed a large part of the network already.

Forsee said the companies will develop an "ingredient brand" to sell WiMax across their territories, although Sprint Nextel will take the lead in selling the service to large national customers, as well as look for potential wholesale customers or companies wanting to piggyback on the network to sell their own branded service.

Sprint Nextel and Clearwire also will continue working with third-party manufacturers to develop devices other than cell phones and laptop air cards that could operate on the system.

The two sides plan to work out a final agreement over the next 60 days and unveil financial details at Sprint Nextel's technology conference for investors on Aug. 16.

Forsee said he didn't expect significant money to change hands. Instead, he said, the companies will swap portions of broadband spectrum and share tower space and other technology to make sure their sections of the network mesh.

Clearwire CEO Ben Wolff said WiMax should help the U.S. catch up to other countries in terms of providing broadband alternatives for consumers, increasing wireless Internet access to rural areas and helping improve public safety communications.

The Federal Communications Commission and the Justice Department must sign off on the deal, which Forsee said he expected they would do by the end of the year.

Wachovia Capital Markets analyst Gray Powell said in a report to investors that he thought the deal was a strong positive for Clearwire, because it would provide the company "with a roaming partner, eliminates a potential competitor, and likely provides the company with greater financial flexibility."

He said he expected Sprint Nextel to benefit modestly from the lower capital and operational costs.

Reuters
Sprint ends Clearwire pact, reviews WiMax plans
Friday November 9, 12:15 pm ET
By Sinead Carew

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Sprint Nextel Corp (NYSE:S - News), the No. 3 U.S. mobile service, said on Friday it had ended its WiMax partnership with Clearwire Corp (NasdaqGS:CLWR - News) and was reviewing its plans for the next-generation wireless technology.

The news sent Clearwire shares down as much as 28 percent as the small high-speed wireless service provider will now have to spend a lot more money to expand the geographical reach of its network. Founded by mobile pioneer Craig McCaw, Clearwire also posted a quarterly loss on Friday that was five times wider than a year earlier as expenses rose.

Shares of Sprint edged lower as investors were still waiting for the company, which has been losing subscribers for more than a year, to say it would scale back its plan to spend $5 billion on WiMax by year-end 2010.

Sprint said it still intended to build a WiMax network, but was reviewing its business plan and outlook in light of the partnership failure. It promised more details early next year.

Analysts said the company would probably not make any big decisions on WiMax until it hires a new CEO to replace Gary Forsee, who resigned last month.

Pacific Crest analyst Steve Clement said the demise of the Clearwire pact was a step in the right direction for Sprint.

"It raises the probability they're not going to spend as much on WiMax," he said. But he added: "There's not enough certainty within Sprint right now to get too excited."

Sprint said it and Clearwire could not resolve complexities in their proposed partnership and failed to agree on the terms of the transaction. In July, they had agreed to connect their WiMax networks and share the cost of reaching a potential customer base of 100 million people by the end of 2008.

They had also planned to collaborate on marketing and airwaves exchanges as well as letting customers of each company roam on the other's network.

The agreement would have helped Clearwire offer a wider-reaching service at a lower cost by giving customers access to services in larger Sprint markets.

"It's not good news for Clearwire," said Stifel Nicolaus analyst Chris King. In a research note he said it "dramatically impacts the longer-term financial pressures on Clearwire."

UNCERTAIN FUTURE

Clearwire executives told analysts on a conference call that it was looking at options including strategic partnerships with companies besides Sprint. They did not give details beyond saying that an upcoming government airwaves auction has attracted a lot of interest in the wireless broadband sector.

Google Inc (GOOG), which has agreed to offer Web services to Sprint WiMax customers, has said it may bid in the auction.

WiMax promises faster wireless connection speeds over longer ranges than Wi-Fi, currently used in laptops, but its commercial and technical viability is still unproven.

Analysts said any pullback by Sprint on WiMax spending was also bad for its network equipment suppliers, such as Motorola Inc (NYSE:MOT), Samsung Electronics Co Ltd (005930.KS) and Nokia Oyj (Helsinki:NOK1V.HE; NYSE:NOK). Chipmaker Intel Corp (INTC), also a big promoter of WiMax, is developing WiMax chips.

Their shares all fell on Friday, along with other technology stocks amid concerns on U.S. corporate demand.

Sprint said it remained "fully committed to developing WiMax services and deploying a WiMax network" and would continue to work with Clearwire on opportunities such as network roaming agreements and airwaves exchanges.

It said it was still on track to test WiMax services in Chicago and Baltimore/Washington late this year, and for a commercial launch in 2008.

Sprint has envisioned new service models for WiMax, with plans to connect a wide array of devices, such as cameras and media players as well as cell phones and computer data cards.

Sprint shares have fallen about 37 percent since August 2005 when it bought Nextel Communications. Since then it has lost customers as it struggled to integrate the acquisition and been criticized for a confusing marketing message.

Some analysts say WiMax could distinguish Sprint from bigger rivals AT&T Inc (NYSE:T) and Verizon Wireless, a venture of Verizon Communications (NYSE:VZ) and Vodafone Group Plc (LSE:VOD.L).

Clearwire stock was down $4.05, or 22.5 percent, to $13.98 in noon trade on Nasdaq after falling as low as $13.03 earlier on Friday, its lowest price since it went public in March.

Sprint shares were down 31 cents, or 1.9 percent, to $16.23 on the New York Stock Exchange.

If Sprint is "hell-bent on WiMax, and their spending is not going to change, then this is probably a negative," Stifel's King said. "But if it gives them the flexibility to scale back spending, it could be a near-term positive for the stock."

Sprint, Clearwire end WiMax pact
Shares of wireless-Internet startup sink in pre-open

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- Sprint Nextel Corp. and Clearwire Corp. said Friday they terminated a plan to jointly construct the nation's first mobile network based on fast WiMax technology.
After forcing out the company's chief executive last month, Sprint's board has been reviewing its costly WiMax strategy in light of poor results in the carrier's mainstay wireless-phone business. Ex-CEO Gary Forsee had strongly backed the initiative, but many investors viewed the $5 billion-plus project as an unnecessary distraction.
WiMax is a form of wireless communications that proponents say can deliver high-speed Internet access over greater distances at relatively low cost. Current wireless-Internet service is relatively slow and costly to consumers.

The withdrawal of Sprint (S:Sprint Nextel Corporation
$16.38, $-0.16, -1.0%) is a blow to the plans of Clearwire, a startup wireless-Internet firm founded by billionaire telecom investor Craig McCaw. The firm went public earlier this year at $25 a share.

In Friday trades, Clearwire (CLWR:clearwire corp cl a
Last: $13.71, -$4.32 ,-23.96%
$13.71, -$4.32, -24.0%) stock fell as much as 20% to below $15 a share. When the deal was announced in July, Clearwire shares had soared more than 20%.
What Clearwire loses is a big partner with the financial heft and marketing power to help accelerate its own strategy. Under the joint venture, Sprint would have built a WiMax network covering about 185 million people while Clearwire planned to cover about 115 million people. The pair would have marketed WiMax service under a common brand.
The two companies have been seen as a natural fit since Sprint's decision in 2006 to build a WiMax network aimed at delivering the fastest Internet-connection speeds in the nation for mobile customers.
The strategy was aimed at giving Sprint a competitive edge over larger rivals AT&T Inc. and Verizon Wireless, the carrier co-owned by Verizon Communications Inc. (VZ:verizon communications com

Last: $37.48, -0.91, -2.36%

Sprint, the No. mobile operator in the U.S., has been losing customers to those two companies over the past year. The continued weakness led to the ouster of Forsee in October and prompted Sprint to put a microscope on its multi-billion dollar WiMax strategy.
"In light of this announcement, Sprint is reviewing its WiMax business plans and outlook and the company expects to comment further on these topics early next year," the company said in a statement. Sprint plans to hire a new CEO by then.
Despite breaking off its agreement with Clearwire, Sprint said it's still committed to building a WiMax network. Nor did it rule out a future partnership with Clearwire.
Because of all the money Sprint has already spent on WiMax, analysts doubt the company would junk its strategy entirely.
"Sprint said it will review its WiMAX business plan in early 2008; in our view, there's no way they scrap it," analyst Greg Lundberg of Communications Equity Research told clients.
Analysts say Sprint might consider spinning its WiMax division off as a publicly traded company as a way to lessen the strain on its own finances. They say the carrier would be better off spending its cash to fit its ailing mobile-phone business first before it builds a third network.
The company already operates one network for its Sprint mobile-phone business and another for the Nextel division acquired in 2005.
What's more, WiMax remains a largely unproven technology, especially from a business case. The market is still in its infancy and it's unclear how fast it will grow or how big it could get.
Four-year-old Clearwire, for instance, caters to just 350,000 subscribers, mostly consumers in the U.S., Ireland and Belgium. The company generates about $150 million in annual sales, but it's also racked up huge losses owing to the cost of building a network from scratch.
On Friday, Clearwire said it lost $328.6 million, or $2.10 a share, in the third quarter, up from a loss of $59.8 million, or 61 cents a share, in the year-ago period. The company blamed the higher loss on a onetime charge of $159.2 million related to the refinancing of debt.
Revenue rose 53% to $41.3 million from $26.9 million, as the company added 49,000 net subscribers.

The World Needs WIMAX...And WIMAX Needs Clearwire.......

Device and chip-makers, as well as net-based software and content providers, are drooling if not frothing at the mouth not only for seamless mobile internet connectivity at broadband speeds, but connectivity at commodified prices. In order to get seamless connectivity at commodified prices they need new competitors and probably the easiest way to do that is by aiding WIMAX. Other technologies don't yet have the data transfer speeds at comparable costs.

Despite this, few are willing to place their money where their hopes lie. Some (like Google (GOOG) or Apple (AAPL)) would rather not support WIMAX because by doing this they would be declaring war on the mobile operators that they still need to play nice with to get into the mobile market.

Nevertheless, Clearwire (CLWR) can help to make seamless mobile internet connectivity at broadband speeds happen because of Intel (INTC) and Motorola (MOT). They backed Clearwire and will probably be the investors of last resort. Because of this, other device and chip-makers are building gadgets to run on WIMAX.

Sprint (S) has also been investing in WIMAX infrastructure but it is going through troubles in its core business and the resignation of their CEO makes it seem like they may be pulling back on WIMAX. I don't think this will be the case, but whether Sprint keeps Xohm (their future WIMAX offering) or spins it off or sells it, Xohm needs Clearwire. This is because investors don't have the stomach to spend billions to build out a country-wide WIMAX network on their own as well as one that will have to compete with another WIMAX network.

Soon enough, some mobile operators and/or fixed broadband providers will partner or bid to be able to combine WIMAX with their offerings.

Still, there are big risks. At a time when investors seem to be questioning whether Clearwire will survive, the company along with Intel and Motorola must keep investors confident enough to keep financing its WIMAX rollout.

If Clearwire succeeds, eventually competition from other technologies combined with interoperability of devices will hurt its margins, but that won't happen until Clearwire's shares have traded much higher than they are currently.

If Clearwire fails I think the downside is very limited. I would give a worst case scenario of a 50% loss from these levels but it's much more likely that the floor has been reached.

Clearwire Skyrockets On Rumors.......
Without releasing any major news on Friday, shares of Clearwire skyrocketed on what analysts considered bogus rumors.

Since the breakup of that partnership, rumors have been flying that Clearwire is ripe for a takeover, though no legitimate offers have been made.

On Friday, Clearwire surged 11.2%, or $1.40, to $13.92 on what Think Equity Partners analyst Eric Kainer believed to be "buyout rumors of no credence." Kainer suggested that the rumors might even have been started by investors who want to boost their own portfolios before the end of the year.

Kainer said that a takeover of Clearwire is extremely unlikely. "In order to get a sale you have to have a willing seller," he said. "It's extremely unlikely they'd sell out at any number anywhere near here." The analyst noted that Clearwire's voting strategy allows Chairman Craig McCaw the final word on most all decisions. According to Kainer, McCaw has no intentions of selling.

On the slight chance that a takeover was being stirred, Kainer believes it would come from either Google (nasdaq: GOOG) or Comcast (nasdaq: CMCSA). However, he noted that Google is "rumored to be buying everything," and having backed out of the upcoming spectrum auction, Comcast looks like an unlikely bidder as well.

The Clearwire Difference

Clearwire service eliminates the confines of traditional cable or telephone wiring, allowing customers to connect at home, a local coffeehouse, the office or virtually anywhere else in the Clearwire service area. Clearwire's next-generation, non-line-of-sight wireless broadband network solution connects customers through licensed or secured spectrum. With its simple off-the-shelf installation customers can be on the Internet within minutes of set up.

In addition to wireless broadband Internet access, Clearwire also offers Internet phone service. Clearwire Internet Phone Service works with a customer's existing high-speed Internet access and provides unlimited local and long-distance calling from a regular telephone. Rochester customers can dial family and friends in all 50 states, Canada and Puerto Rico.

Clearwire is an ideal solution for anyone in search of portable high-speed Internet service that is simple to use and reliable. Simply purchase a modem or a pc card at a local retailer including the Clearwire store and kiosk locations at 100 Meridian Center, Eastview Mall or Greece Ridge Center, Best Buy, Circuit City or online at www.clearwire.com.

Report: Sprint Nextel, Clearwire do WiMAX deal
Kansas City Business Journal

Sprint Nextel Corp. is preparing to announce a $12 billion joint venture for WiMAX with Clearwire Corp., possibly as early as Wednesday, the Wall Street Journal reported late Tuesday.

Citing people familiar with the deal, the report said the deal received final investor approval Tuesday but still would need regulatory approval.

The report described the deal as creating a new company that would use the Clearwire (Nasdaq: CLWR) name and offer traditional voice service plus wireless broadband access. The new company has raised $3.2 billion in outside financing, including $1.05 billion from Comcast Corp. (Nasdaq: CMCSA), $1 billion from Intel Corp. (Nasdaq: INTC), $550 million from Time Warner Cable Inc. (NYSE: TWC), $500 million from Google Inc. (Nasdaq: GOOG) and $100 million from Bright House Networks.

Sprint Nextel (NYSE: S) would have majority ownership, the Wall Street Journal reported, but CEO Dan Hesse gave Clearwire the operational helm because some involved in the deal worried that Sprint could hinder the new company from competing for Sprint customers.

A Sprint Nextel spokeswoman said the company was not commenting on the report. A Clearwire spokeswoman couldn't be reached for comment.

Atlanta-based telecommunications industry analyst Jeff Kagan said in a report Tuesday that he expected the move, though a similar deal announced in August fell apart.

The arrangement spreads risk among "heavy hitters" -- a never-before-seen combination of competitors pursuing next-generation technology -- that will push for the project's success because of their investments and for their customers, Kagan wrote.

"This much corporate muscle really validates this new idea," he wrote. "This ultra-fast wireless data and Internet service for cell phones and laptops and wireless devices makes enormous sense."

Sprint Nextel is based in Overland Park. Clearwire is based in Kirkland, Wash.
