Hey Steven, I have a position in AVAN too and just noticed your comment in the TMWD thread. My position is based on the trend break potential, but I won't hang around if it doesn't materialise.

AVAN seems to have a few products and one of them is Rotarix which is already market approved in Europe, South America and Asian Pacific Countries. If and when Glaxo is granted market approval for the US, AVAN could benefit from it and the PPS could shoot up much higher.

Rotavirus Vaccine: Rotavirus is a major cause of diarrhea and vomiting in infants and children. In 1997, AVANT licensed its oral rotavirus vaccine to Glaxo. All of the ongoing development for this program is being conducted and funded by Glaxo. Glaxo gained approval for Rotarix†in Mexico in July 2004, which represented the first in an expected series of worldwide approvals and commercial launches for the product. Glaxo has launched in additional Latin American and Asian Pacific countries during 2005 and 2006. Additionally, Glaxo filed for market approval with the European regulatory authorities in late 2004, which triggered a $2 million milestone payment to AVANT. In February 2006, the European Commission granted approval of Rotarix† in the European Union, which triggered a $4 million milestone payment from Glaxo. Glaxo has agreed to make an additional payment of $1.5 million, upon achievement of market approval in the United States.

AVANT's partner, GlaxoSmithKline, files Rotarix application for U.S. marketing approval with the FDA

Co announces that its partner, GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) Biologicals, has filed a marketing application for the Rotarix vaccine with the FDA. Rotarix is a two-dose rotavirus vaccine given to children for the prevention of gastroenteritis caused by rotavirus. In May 2005, AVANT entered into an agreement whereby an affiliate of Paul Royalty Fund purchased an interest in the net royalties AVANT will receive on worldwide sales of Rotarix. The terms of the agreement with PRF include a $10 mln milestone payment on product launch in 2008 in the U.S. Under the P.R.F agreement, AVANT retains 50% of the GSK milestone payment triggered by U.S. approval of Rotarix, with the balance payable to P.R.F and Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center.

MERGER PARTNER GRANTED ORPHAN STATUS: Avant Immunotherapeutics, Inc. (AVAN)
got an early boost in Friday's sessison after the FDA granted orphan drug designation for Celldex
Therapeutics' CDX-110 in the treatment of EGFRvIII expressing Glioblastoma Multiforme
(GBM), the most common and aggressive form of brain cancer. Celldex Therapeutics announced
a definitive merger agreement with AVANT Immunotherapeutics in October 2007. CDX-110 is
an immunotherapy that targets the tumor-specific growth promoter EGFRvIII, a functional variant
of the epidermal growth factor receptor, which is a protein that has been well validated as
a target for cancer therapy. EGFRvIII occurs in about 40 percent of Glioblastoma Multiforme
(GBM) patients. In a Phase IIa study, CDX-110 treated GBM patients showed a median survival
time of 30 months, more than a 100 percent increase in survival, versus the historical control's
median of 14.5 months. The study has demonstrated a median time-to-progression of 13 months
versus the historical control's median of 6.4 months. Celldex has currently enlisted 18 clinical
centers throughout the United States, and also recently received approval from Health Canada
to open enrollment in Canada. Furthermore, The National Cancer Institute (NCI) has agreed to
collaborate with Celldex in expanded clinical development of CDX-110 under a Clinical Trials
Agreement. It is important to note that the expression of EGFRvIII has also been observed in
various other cancers such as breast, ovarian, metastatic prostate, colorectal, and head & neck
cancers. Celldex has exclusive rights for EGFRvIII vaccines.
