Well, AAPL once again absolutely CREAMED the street, posting earnings of .87 vs a consensus estimate of .64, on $5.26B in revs.  :o :o :o

http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/070425/sfw096.html?.v=80

That Cup n handle looks to be good, as AAPL is trading at all time highs in the aftermarket, currently over $102.  I think this could well be a breakaway gap and I think we could well see AAPL hold steady above $100 and begin a new move as they (and the market) prepare for the iPhone launch.  It is clear that Macs are continuing to garner market share, and iPods were strong this quarter despite an anticipated drop off following christmas.  The upcoming quarter should be strong with significant Pro-level introductions (8 core Mac Pros - the fastest workstations on the planet, and the new Final Cut Studio, as well as Adobe CS3 driving sales), and the back half of the year will only further cement this with the iPhone release and leopard.

With the options debacle looking like it will blow past Jobs, AAPL could see some serious upside in the medium term.  Some are pointing (once again) to below average guidance for the next quarter as a possible dampener, but if they haven't learned now, they never will - Apple ALWAYS guides conservatively and ALWAYS blows estimates away.  Once again, this quarter they did it in style.

Go AAPL go!!!  ;D ;D ;D

You got it Scotty, all-time high for AAPL....  ;) very  bullish ;D

ScottishTrader

I'm not sure if we will see AAPL come back down to completely fill that gap, but I expect we will test $97.80 or just below today (previous all time highs). Regardless of the pullback, I think we should see $95.50 level established as new support (at least I would like to see that level become support).

I put the technical target of that triangle breakout at 117.40, and I expect that is probably where AAPL is headed in the next 3 months as anticipation builds for the iPhone release.

Obviously there are potential caveats, including how their new revenue model for the iPhone will impact reported earnings, the SEC options probe, and of course getting the iPhone out the door on schedule, but if they manage to execute as expected, I doubt we will see AAPL below $90 again (barring a split) this year.

ScottishTrader

AAPL is continuing to prove that the recent earnings gap was a beakaway - after testing support at previous all-time highs, AAPL made a beautiful bullish candle yesterday, breaking to new all-time highs.  Looks like AAPL has got the momo here....

stocky

True appl of my eye. ;)

AAPL is pretty bullish now Scotty, I have to give $130 on this one, and another forward split in the near-term. ;)

ScottishTrader

Yep, I'm sticking with the July 100 calls right now - I think that as we get towards the iPhone announcement and the developers conference in June, things should really start heating up (well, they already are...)  Still, the back half of the year is when AAPL should really kick into gear, and I agree with your $130, $110 was just a short term target, where I could see AAPL taking a little breather, but then again, who knows with this powerhouse???  All that is clear is that the april earnings gap was a breakaway, and we all know how AAPL reacts to breakaway gaps....

ScottishTrader

AAPL tagged $115 today, after a storming 25 point run in the last month.  That Cup & handle pattern really worked out...

Maybe it is time to take a breather???  Looking for a pullback to around $110 for re-entry

DJPlayer

Need an opinion on this one..

Sell or Hold?  My position isn't large enough to worry about portions.   All the indicators say it needs a big pull back.  But this would be the 3rd time this month it was due for a decent sized pullback.   Upcoming release of the iphone I believe is holding it back from a huge drop off...  but how long can this last?

I would rather shoot for the moon and miss than aim for the gutter and make it

kslifka

Unless the market goes sour hold on. :o

That's one nice candle with volume.

Congrats ;D

There you go Scotty, $130 is on its way ;)
AAPL is very bullish, I would go to $150 now. ;D

Goodluck!

That 2 year chart is just unbelievable!!! There's your 10-bagger right there!

iPhone ads came out tonight, check em out, they show (once again) just how far the iPhone blows away any kind of competition - June 29th confirmed as launch date suggests everything is falling into place - we could see another run into the WWDC next week.  On a side note, a lot of people have been saying to take some off the table before the iPhone release, as it should sell off afterwards.  I'm not so sure.  I'm looking for a sell off to occur beforehand to shake out all those expecting the sell-off.  My thought right now is to get into some Jan 08 calls on a pullback (I should have done a month ago, but have been trading June and July calls).  I do not doubt that $150 will be seen this year, if not more!

Go AAPL!!

Apple Rises on iPhone Margin Report

Apple Rises After iSuppli Analysis Says 8 Gigabyte iPhone Margin Is 55 Percent

NEW YORK (AP) -- Apple Inc.'s shares jumped in high-volume trading Tuesday after researchers said the company will reap a gross profit margin in excess of 55 percent on its 8 gigabyte iPhones.
Apple shares added $5.91, or 4.9 percent, to $127.17 in an abbreviated trading session that ended at 1 p.m. due to the upcoming July Fourth holiday. During the past year, the stock has traded between $50.16 and $127.61, running up in recent months in anticipation of the hybrid cell phone, media player and wireless Internet gadget's June 29 release.

On Tuesday, the research company iSuppli reported that a tear-down analysis of the iPhone showed its bill of materials and manufacturing costs totaled $265.83. That means Apple would generate a margin of more than 55 percent for every 8 gigabyte iPhone it sold for $599.

Eric Pratt, iSuppli's senior director of tear-down, said iSuppli is still fine-tuning its report and it now thinks the product's margin is more than 50 percent, when accounting for factors like royalties and software costs. He wasn't surprised by the margin, he said, because the company's earlier research-based modeling called for a basic iPhone cost of $264.85.

Apple does not disclose its margins for specific products but iSuppli's estimate for the iPhone -- which doesn't include marketing or research and development costs -- falls in the ballpark of its iPod cousins that were similarly analyzed by the market research firm.

The iPhone's margin is much higher than some smart phones, like the Motorola Q, Pratt said, but he expects similar margins from the new crop of smart phones, which include Nokia Corp.'s N95 and HTC Corp.'s HTC Touch.

"Apple has kind of opened up a whole new realm here in opportunities in handsets," he said.

Pacific Crest Securities analyst Andy Hargreaves thinks investors bought the stock Tuesday in part because of iSuppli's analysis, though he thinks the proposed margin is a bit high.

It's impossible to tell exactly how many iPhones Apple sold during the product's first few days on store shelves -- Hargreaves estimates about 300,000, though other estimates range from 500,000 to 750,000, he said -- and how accurate iSuppli's analysis is, but he agreed the combination could help Apple.

"If you combine good unit sales with better-than-expected margins, that's a very good benefit to cash flow," the analyst said.

Hargreaves also thinks shareholders are shrugging off earlier concerns that there would be a sell-the-news event when the iPhone launched. The product was released with much fanfare Friday evening, but Apple's shares barely budged when trading resumed Monday.

Some fairly large investors sold some of their position in Apple before the iPhone's launch, fearing it would result in a sell-off of Apple's stock, he said, but since that didn't happen some of these investors might buy more shares.

"I think people are buying back into the story and the potential of the iPhone, especially given the margin," he said.

Still growing.......
AAPL is still headed way up !
Over the long term Apple should do very well with the iPone.
Of all the iPhone component suppliers, Balda, a German company, is reported to have scored the biggest design win with the touch screen. "Balda is known for making touch screen that are durable and scratch resistant, a common complaint of the screen in iPods."
My target projection on AAPL is $160.00 JMHO of course.

Small Symmetrical Triangle (continuation) Pattern.......BreakOut

Pennant: A pennant is a small symmetrical triangle that begins wide and converges as the pattern matures (like a cone). The slope is usually neutral. Sometimes there will not be specific reaction highs and lows from which to draw the trend lines and the price action should just be contained within the converging trend lines.

Pennants are short-term continuation patterns that mark a small consolidation before the previous move resumes.
