I think FSLR's reversal toady indicated strength for solars.

I sold my SOLF yesterday (was far too greedy and failed to sell in upper 30s).  But anyway still long half my CSIQ and took a position in LDK.

Hopefully we got a market reversal today!  We need follow through tomorrow big time..wonder what ben will say.

Hopefully you guys got in.  I watched the open today and seeing a print to open at $10.15 (within the red candle).  Then watched it dropped.  I set a buy order at 9.55...but it only dropped to 9.71. :-\

I still should have jumped in as is ran above $10...knowing this was a reversal setting up.

Will watch for an intra-day pullback to get in.

Hi la-onda, this news was very significant ...

• Akeena Solar Licenses New Solar Panel Technology to Suntech
Business Wire (Wed, Jan 2)

... because AKNS is a $340 M market cap company and STP is a $11.4 B market cap company.

«Suntech targets sales of over 10MW of the Andalay solar panels to the licensed regions in 2008.»

Hmmm, but now I see that this news wasn't news at all, since the company already disclosed this in its 3rd quarter earnings release:

«Developed a relationship with Suntech for the supply of 10-14 megawatts of solar panels in 2008»

Probably this explains why the stock came back down after the huge run up.

What do you think la-onda? Thanks and good luck :)

I got in AKNS at 10.35...but the volume at the close was not very impressive. :-\  Especially considering the market rally

Solars may still be down for a little while...(hopefully it's just consolidation).   FSLR did remain in the red...but it still is holding above the 50dma.  I would like to see FSLR pop soon.

I got out of AKNS...solars are looking week right now.  Of course the over all market isn't helping :P

64% blast in eleven trading days ::)

I dislike AKNS because they make a private placement or more each quarter, heavily diluting existing shareholders value.

In May 10, 2007, they had 18,562,870 shares outstanding. As of August 8, 2007, there were 23,625,941 shares. And in November 8, 2007, there were 27,891,478 shares. The fundamental improvement can't compensate this kind of dilution ... the company may grow a lot but my guess is the share price will stay flat or go down anyway.

As written above I dislike AKNS from a fundamental standpoint (because I see it heavily diluting shareholders value and as a low margin business in the future), but the stock managed a 8.7% rally yesterday, going with solar group as a whole.

Good luck if you're still holding la-onda :)

Shares of Akeena Solar Fall 10% on Earnings Report

The market saw a 300 point bounce intraday following the S&P noting the end of write-downs was in sight. Various government plans also circulated outlining a program for the government to buy mortgages.
Other news saw gold and oil continue their rally on the weakening dollar. Earnings reports were also being reported and a couple were in the solar arena that had many names in the sector giving up past gains.
Akeena Solar, Inc. (AKNS) reported their fourth quarter and year end results before the bell on Thursday. The Company is anational installers of residential and commercial solar power systems in the United States. The company's new solar installation technology, Andalay, is
the only solar panel system with integrated racking, wiring and grounding.
Andalay panels offer unprecedented reliability, performance and aesthetics. Net sales for the fourth quarter of 2007 were $10.3 million, an increase of 130%, compared to $4.5 million in net sales in the fourth quarter of 2006 and increase of 27.6% compared to $8.1 million in sales
in the third quarter of 2007. Growth in the fourth quarter over both the same quarter last year and the prior quarter reflects higher volume of residential and commercial installations. For the year ended December 31, 2007, the company reported net sales of $32.2 million, an increase
of 140.6% over net sales of $13.4 million for 2006. Gross profit was $6.8 million, or 21.2% of sales compared to gross profit of $2.9 million, or 22.0% of sales in 2006. The 0.8% decrease in the gross profit margin reflects a higher proportion of commercial installations in the revenue
mix in 2007. Net loss for the fourth quarter of 2007 was $4.5 million, or $0.18 per share, compared to net loss of $1.2 million, or $0.07 per share, in the fourth quarter of 2006. Net loss for 2007 was $11.0 million, or $0.52 per share, compared to a net loss of $1.8 million, or $0.16 per share, in 2006. The estimate for the quarter called for a loss per share of $ 0.11. For 2008, management anticipates increasing revenue by approximately 100% over 2007 revenue of $32.2 million and achieving EBITDA breakeven, adjusted for non cash stock-based compensation expense of approximately $4.2 million, by the end of the year. For the
first quarter 2008, management expects revenue of approximately $12 million. A significant expansion of the company's sales office footprint may change management's financial goals for 2008. In any event, the expected continued growth of the Company didn't overcome negative
sentiment for missing the 4th quarter's estimates. Shares fell over 10% on heavy volume following the report. The Company did report a manufacturing partnership with Kyocera to manufacture their Andalay solar panels. With successful implementation and growth in demand for those solar installations, the name is certainly one to follow.
