SILC seems destined for $20.  Why would you sell here?  What happened to long term investing?  Very confused about your trading plan on this one.

Got out at $13.3, as planned :)

QuoteSILC seems destined for $20.

You think so? I hope so, but I don't know man, growth is slowing down and there aren't many micro caps outthere sporting a p/e of 20. But this can change and that's my expectation in general , so I hope you're right.

QuoteWhy would you sell here?

I posted my reasoning. I sniffed insiders preparing to unload shares on the good news, so if they do sell, why shouldn't I take profits?

Another issue is that they continue to increase the share count:

QuoteWhat happened to long term investing?

Nothing happened.

I'm human like everybody else and wanted to take a profit on my birthday ;D

No, seriously, perhaps I'll come back to SILC later, maybe even at a higher price, but for now I'm happy with the way this trade unfolded. I'm a long term investor, but I'm free!

Good luck :)

Well done David. 40% profit in this market in such a short time is great.Sell and say thank you very much.

Hey Cesar, I guess, the best wish for you would be strong health! I hope all your weaknesses are temporary and you'll fight all ailments decisevely, as you usually approach things!

The best of luck and help bring the fortune to all of us here!!  :-*

A note for SILC: good move. And thanks for admitting the PFSW opportunity at $1.50. You never know. But, you're right, you still remain a lon-term investor, eventhough you sell a stock today. The idea is to take considerable profits when they come quickly and then continue to analyze and decide whether to buy again or not. This way, you'll have financial backing of the short-term profits. Do not fight market inefficiencies!

As for SILC, it was a great trade! Thanks!

Silicom Enters China: Receives $1.8M Order from Leading Chinese Server Company
Monday February 4, 7:23 am ET

KFAR SAVA, Israel--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Silicom Ltd. (NASDAQ:SILC - News)(TASE:SILC) today reported that it has received a $1.8 million order from one of China's largest domestic server companies, representing its first significant penetration into the vast Chinese market. The order is for production quantities of Silicom's advanced fiber multi-port Gigabit Ethernet adapters scheduled for delivery during the first quarter.

"We are excited to achieve this significant initial penetration of the strategic Chinese market," commented Shaike Orbach, Silicom's President and CEO. "China's rapid growth represents a huge new opportunity for Silicom, especially the fact that its server usage is growing in step with the phenomenal development of its telecom, transportation, banking and other sectors. In fact, according to CCID Consulting, more than half a million x86 servers were sold in China in 2007, with additional strong growth projected for 2008.

"As such, this first order from a major Chinese server vendor is a significant milestone for us. Beyond its potential to generate repeat orders over time, this order demonstrates our ability to achieve significant sales in China, paving the way for success with the market's many additional vendors. As such, we believe the Chinese server market could become a strong new driver of our long-term growth."

Great news for SILC as Se7en posted. The stock is at $16 in pre-market ... that 40% quick profit was a birthday present that I shouldn't have taken. Congrats to the ones still holding and thank you for your kind words :)

Silicom's First Market Penetration
into China Forecasted in Earnings Call
Trading on Silicom Ltd. (SILC) was up 13.934% on news that the company has received a $1.8M order from one of China's largest domestic server companies, representing its first significant penetration into the Chinese market. In Silicom's January 28 earnings call, Silicom's CEO stated, "We currently do not have visibility but we feel we're making progress in this market, and we've decided this will become a major focus for us. Until now, we've hardly had any business in china, but I think we will begin to very soon." The company has now experienced four years of continuous revenue growth, driven by its main end-market
in WAN optimization, network security and servers market, where it believes will continue to see signiciant growth opportunity. Silicom reports increasing market awareness for ten Gigbit data speed, particularly among enterprise networks, trending toward ten gigabit solutions.
Silicom's focus long term growth is in its design wins, which will enable the company to see year-over-year growth ahead of its target market.
The China order for Silicom's advanced fiber multi-port Gigabit Ethernet adapters is scheduled for delivery during the first quarter. According to CCID Consulting, more than half a million x86 servers were sold in China in 2007, with additional strong growth projected for 2008.

QuoteGreat news for SILC as Se7en posted. The stock is at $16 in pre-market ... that 40% quick profit was a birthday present that I shouldn't have taken.

Well, after that "great" news from China, SILC came off to a low of $11.31. Currently it stands at $13, just fluctuating on low volume.

The stock looks cheap on a comparison with its peers ...

... but that's not enough of a reason to consider it a buy. The discount is probably there for a reason, since SILC warns a lot of potential wild fluctuations in quarterly results, someday probably it will report a sharply lower EPS. I've been waiting for this and it still didn't happen, yet the stock fell 60% just due to multiple compression ::)
