LDK is attempting to make a bullish breakout above the 50 days SMA. I'm not a big fan of "traditional" solar companies like LDK, but its projected growth is attractive.

If I were to plunge into solar right now this would be the one ...

SOLF, YGE STP and TSL just broke above their 50 SMA today.

Hey Houlahan,

There is always a boat to get on, you only missed that days boat, widen your timeframe view and you will realise boats are available to get on all the time. Since you missed the LDK boat it has consolidated and only now setting up nicely for continuation. Earnings for many Solars these next few days and lots of charts are looking good.

Took a position in LDK last week. Earnings are released after the market closes today. LDK is the 2nd part of my Solar positions the other being SOL (see my previous post for SOL link). I am using these 2 as SOL represents the new and LDK the more established players in the Solar market.
I am hoping LDK will work it's way through resistance and again challenge old highs. 38.2% fib retracement and 200sma both around $40 being the first acid test. My stop sits just below ascending support and the 50 day average.

Big week for Solar:

This week is an extremely important week for solar stocks and alternative energy stocks. JA Solar Holdings Co. Ltd. (NASDAQ: JASO), LDK Solar Co.Ltd. (NYSE: LDK), Canadian Solar Inc. (NASDAQ: CSIQ), and Yingli Green Energy Holding Co. Ltd. (NYSE: YGE) are all up on the earnings deck this week

 Aussie Trader,  I agree about this week being important for solar,  I bought SOLF last week and still holding ASTI.  Good health and trading.

LDK results were good and beat estimates. However there was a caveat in the news relating to margin pressure and availability in relation to silicon. LDK lowered their margin forecasts and have invested in their own silicon supply (not yet on line though) and that information put the skids on LDK's price reaction to the news.

Technically the chart is not damaged as it is moving along the ascending support line. That said, I am re-thinking my strategy on LDK and may look to cull it in favour of another Solar. Now other Solar's will face the same issue as LDK, so it is not just a case of dump it and look elsewhere.

Poli, I really like the SOLF chart thanks. I will research it a bit more.  They also have silicon and margin issues and have been downgraded as a result, but there may be mileage in a pre earns run as they don't announce until May 21st.

Holding LDK and indeed added another Solar in the shape of SOLF (thread in watch list).

My trifecta of Solar plays has SOL and SOLF going bonkers and LDK not

That said, I have no reason to sell LDK at this point, I am keeping it open with a stop just below ascending support, it is a relative low risk play here and upside much greater and more likely than down.

Now all 3 are 'Going Bonkers' LOL. Nice volume backed gain which got stopped at the 200SMA. No reason to change my LDK plan just yet.

LDK has broken the 200SMA resistance on good volume. It held nicely onto the solid gains despite the overall market weakness

LDk although quite volatile (as most Solars are) is consolidating in the mid to upper $40's. I am watching the 200SMA around $40 as an area of solid support which I would not want to see broken.
