Beats on Sales, EPS and Forecast

Shares of Wind River Systems (WIND), which makes operating system software hidden away in a lot of gadgets and industrial applications, are up over 20% at $10.82
After the company reported sales and profit for the fiscal first quarter ending May 3 that easily beat estimates. The company offered a forecast for the current quarter that is shy of expectations, but its full-year forecast is above estimates.

For the first quarter, Wind River said sales rose 13% from the prior year to $87.9 million, ahead of an average estimate of $81 million, and profit per share, excluding some costs, more than doubled to 9 cents, well ahead of the average estimate of 2 cents on the Street. For the current quarter, the company expects from $86 million to $88 million, and from 7 cents to 8 cents in profit, which is behind the average estimate of $89 million in sales and 10 cents. But for the full year, the company foresees $365 million to $375 million in sales, the midpoint of which range is above the $368.6 average estimate of analysts. Full-year expected profit of 48 cents to 50 cents is also comfortably ahead of an estimate of 44 cents.

"Wind River's strong execution and solid return from the investments we have made in our products, our sales organization and alliance partnerships drove excellent first quarter financial results and marked a healthy start to fiscal year 2009," said Wind River's chairman and chief executive Ken Klein in the company's press release. "We saw strong demand across all products and geographies, indicating our strategy is resonating with customers and partners," he added.

Wind River shares rose almost 20.76% in the normal session to close @ $10.82
