BUSINESS SUMMARY   
The Phoenix Companies, Inc., through its subsidiaries, provides life insurance, annuity, and investment products in the United States. It operates in two segments, Life and Annuity, and Asset Management. The Life and Annuity segment offers various life insurance and annuity products through third-party distributors. Its products include universal life, variable universal life, term life, single life, first-to-die, and second-to-die products, as well as variable annuities, deferred annuities, immediate annuities, and private placement life and annuity products. The Asset Management segment offers investment products and services to the retail investors and institutional clients. Its investment products include retail products comprising mutual funds, managed accounts, and closed-end funds; and institutional products, including institutional separate accounts and structured finance products. This segment also offers asset management services to retail customers through open-end mutual funds, closed-end funds, and managed accounts. In addition, it provides asset management services primarily to corporations, multi-employer retirement funds, and foundations, as well as to endowments and special purpose funds. Further, this segment manages fixed income portfolios backed by collateralized debt obligations. The Phoenix Companies offers its products and services through various third-party financial professionals and intermediaries, including national and regional broker-dealers, financial planning firms, advisor groups, banks, and other insurance companies. The company was founded in 1851 and is headquartered in Hartford, Connecticut.
