Cell Therapeutics, Inc. has added a news release to its Investor Relations website.

Title: Pixantrone Significantly Increases Complete Remissions, Overall Response Rates, Frequency of Durable Remissions and Progression Free Survival in Patients with Relapsed and Refractory Aggressive Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma Date: 6/1/2009

The ASCO poster is available at http://www.celltherapeutics.com/investor_updates.

"Anthracycline-related drugs can be effective salvage agents in aggressive NHL, but our use of them is limited by the significant increase in risk of cardiac failure associated with high cumulative doses of these drugs," said Dr. Pettengell. "These results represent a breakthrough in that pixantrone could extend our ability to use a highly active anthracycline-like drug in such patients and deserves to be examined in anthracycline naive patients as a potential alternative to currently available standard anthracycline drugs."

Cell Therapeutics Completes Pixantrone NDA Submission and Requests Priority Review
Completed NDA submission could lead to marketing approval in Q4-2009

SEATTLE, June 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Cell Therapeutics, Inc. ("CTI") (Nasdaq and MTA: CTIC) announced today that it has completed the submission of the New Drug Application (NDA) to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for pixantrone to treat relapsed or refractory, aggressive non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL). CTI requested priority review, which if granted could lead to an approval decision from the FDA in the fourth quarter of 2009. Pixantrone is currently available in Europe on a named-patient basis.

"This is a major milestone for CTI and is the cornerstone of a turnaround strategy for us in meeting our goals of becoming a profitable operating business," said James A. Bianco, M.D., Chief Executive Officer of CTI. "With more than 76,000 pages and 500,000 hyperlinks this submission represents the hard work of many CTI employees dedicated to making a difference in the lives of patients with cancer. This also represents a significant advance in the treatment of patients with relapsed/refractory aggressive NHL, a patient population which the FDA has acknowledged represents an unmet medical need."

About the PIX 301 EXTEND Trial

CTI's EXTEND (PIX 301) clinical trial (the "PIX 301 EXTEND trial") was a phase III single-agent trial of pixantrone for patients with relapsed or refractory, aggressive NHL who received two or more prior therapies and who were sensitive to treatment with anthracyclines. The trial enrolled 140 patients and patients were randomized to receive either pixantrone or another single-agent drug currently used for the treatment of this patient population as selected by the physician.

CTI previously announced that its pivotal PIX 301 EXTEND trial had achieved its primary endpoint with patients randomized to treatment with pixantrone achieving a significantly higher rate of confirmed (CR) and unconfirmed complete remissions (CRu) compared to patients treated with standard chemotherapy (14 out of 70 patients (20.0%) for the pixantrone arm compared to four out of 70 patients (5.7%) for the standard chemotherapy arm, p=0.02). No patient (0%) in the standard chemotherapy arm achieved a confirmed complete remission compared to eight out of 70 (11%) of pixantrone recipients. Pixantrone treatment also significantly increased the overall response rate (ORR) (26 out of 70 (37.1%) for the pixantrone arm compared to ten out of 70 (14.3%) for the control arm, p=0.003). Additionally, pixantrone experienced a statistically significant improvement in median progression-free survival (PFS), compared with other single-agent chemotherapeutic agents (4.7 months vs. 2.6 months, p=0.007, respectively). PFS, CR/CRu and ORR were determined by an independent assessment panel that was blinded to the treatment assignments.

The most common grade 3/4 adverse event observed on the pixantrone arm was neutropenia in 41.2% of patients versus 19.4% on the comparator arm. However, the incidence of grade 3/4 febrile neutropenia was only 7.4% versus 3.0% in the comparator arm. Grade 3/4 infections had a similar incidence in both study arms (18% vs. 13%). Although the grade 3/4 cardiac disorder was similar among the two treatment groups (1.5% vs. 1.5%), there was a slightly higher incidence of serious cardiac disorders in patients treated with pixantrone than among patients who received comparator agents (8.8% vs. 4.5%). Events considered cardiac disorders included cardiac arrest, congestive heart failure, myocardial infarction, cyanosis, pericardial effusion, and tachycardia.

About Pixantrone

Pixantrone (BBR 2778), is a novel major groove binder with an aza-anthracenedione molecular structure that differentiates it from the anthracyclines and other related chemotherapy agents. Anthracyclines are the cornerstone therapeutic for the treatment of lymphoma, leukemia, and breast cancer. Although they are sufficiently effective to be used as first-line (initial) treatment, they cause cumulative heart damage that may result in congestive heart failure many years later. As a result, there is a lifetime limit of anthracycline doses and most patients who previously have been treated with an anthracycline are not able to receive further anthracycline treatment if their disease returns. It also can be administered through a peripheral vein rather than a central implanted catheter as required for other drugs in this class.

Final Determination to be made on June 24, 2011

Press Release Source: Cell Therapeutics, Inc. On Monday June 13, 2011, 1:30 am EDT
SEATTLE, June 13, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Cell Therapeutics, Inc. ("CTI") (NASDAQ:CTICD - News) announced today that it has been included on a list of preliminary additions to the Russell 3000® Index and Russell Global Index posted by Russell Investments on June 10, 2011 at www.russell.com.  Russell Investments will finalize the reconstitution of its family of U.S. and global equity indexes on June 24, 2011.

"We are very pleased to be on the preliminary list for addition to the Russell Indexes and believe it reflects the progress we are making in advancing new therapies in oncology," said James A. Bianco, M.D., CEO of CTI. "Addition to this major index will increase CTI's exposure to large institutional investors."

Annual reconstitution of Russell's U.S. indexes captures the 4,000 largest U.S. stocks as of the end of May, ranking them by total market capitalization. Membership in the Russell 3000® Index, which remains in place for one year, means automatic inclusion in the large-cap Russell 1000® Index or small-cap Russell 2000® Index as well as the appropriate growth and value style indexes. Russell indexes are widely used by investment managers and institutional investors for index funds and as benchmarks for both passive and active investment strategies. An industry-leading $3.9 trillion in institutional assets currently are benchmarked to them. These investment tools originated from Russell's multi-manager investment business in the early 1980s when the company saw the need for a more objective, market-driven set of benchmarks in order to evaluate outside investment managers.

Cell Therapeutics Completes Type A Meeting With FDA's Division of Oncology Drug Products: Guidance Provided for Resubmission of Pixantrone NDA for Consideration of Accelerated Approval
- Received guidance on information needed for resubmission and approaches to address items in complete response letter
- Confirmed 6 month review time from submission

Press Release Source: Cell Therapeutics, Inc. On Tuesday June 14, 2011, 1:30 am EDT
SEATTLE, June 14, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Cell Therapeutics, Inc. ("CTI") (NASDAQ and MTA: CTIC) today announced that it met with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's (the "FDA") Division of Oncology Drug Products (the "DODP").  The meeting provided a pathway for re-submitting CTI's New Drug Application (the "NDA") for pixantrone for relapsed or refractory aggressive non-Hodgkin's lymphoma ("NHL") including the potential for accelerated approval based on the PIX301 study results. This meeting follows CTI's receipt of the FDA's Office of New Drugs' (the "OND") response to CTI's appeal as announced on May 3, 2011, which allows CTI the opportunity to resubmit the NDA. On appeal, the FDA recommended the Company conduct an additional review of radiographs utilizing a new independent panel of radiologists to confirm the response and progression events noted in the pixantrone NDA. The DODP meeting also focused on the documents CTI proposed to provide regarding the circumstances of stopping the enrollment of the clinical trial prior to achieving the original planned patient accrual and the make-up of the new radiology expert panel. CTI also plans to address items noted in the FDA's Complete Response Letter. The DODP confirmed that the NDA would be reviewed within six months from the resubmission of the NDA. CTI anticipates filing the additional information later this year, and could obtain FDA approval in the first half of 2012.

"We are pleased to have the opportunity to meet with the review team from the DODP and to get their feedback on what will be required for a resubmission of our pixantrone NDA. We now have a pathway to move forward with resubmitting the NDA for potential accelerated approval of pixantrone in patients with multiple relapsed or refractory aggressive NHL, which is a stage of this disease for which there are no approved agents," stated Jack W. Singer, M.D., Chief Medical Officer of CTI. "We are excited to have been given this rare second opportunity for review of the NDA and we have made this resubmission our top priority."

About Pixantrone

Pixantrone is a novel aza-anthracenedione that has distinct structural and physio-chemical properties that make its anti-tumor activity unique in this class of agents. Similar to anthracyclines, pixantrone inhibits Topo-isomerase II but unlike anthracyclines -- rather than intercalation with DNA -- pixantrone alkylates DNA -- forming stable DNA adducts with particular specificity for CpG-rich, hyper-methylated sites. These structural differences resulted in significantly enhanced anti-lymphoma activity compared to doxorubicin in preclinical models. In addition, the structural motifs on anthracycline-like agents that are responsible for the generation of oxygen free radicals and the formation of toxic drug-metal complexes have also been modified in pixantrone in an effort to prevent the binding of iron and perpetuation of superoxide production -- both of which are the putative mechanism for anthracycline induced acute cardiotoxicity. These novel pharmacologic differences may allow re-introduction of anthracycline-like potency in the treatment of relapsed/refractory diffuse large lymphoma without unacceptable rates of cardiotoxicity.

This press release includes forward-looking statements that involve a number of risks and uncertainties the outcome of which could materially and/or adversely affect actual future results and the market price of CTI's securities. Specifically, the risks and uncertainties that could affect the development of pixantrone include risks associated with preclinical and clinical developments in the biopharmaceutical industry in general, and with pixantrone in particular, including, without limitation, the potential failure of pixantrone to prove safe and effective for the treatment of relapsed or refractory NHL and/or other tumors as determined by the FDA and/or the European Medicines Agency, that accelerated approval by the FDA of pixantrone may not be possible or occur, that CTI may not be able to address satisfactorily the two key matters raised by the OND or other matters raised by the DODP, the OND and/or the FDA, that CTI's interpretation of the guidance provided by the OND and/or the DODP may be different than the intent of the OND and/or the DODP, that the OND and/or the DODP may change its guidance, that the PIX301 study may not be deemed successful, that upon a re-review of the NDA the FDA may find pixantrone to not be safe and/or effective, that the PIX301 study may still be deemed to be a failed study, that the FDA may require an additional clinical trial of pixantrone, that if CTI conducts an additional clinical trial, it may not demonstrate the safety and effectiveness of pixantrone, that CTI may not be able to provide satisfactory information in response to the FDA's Complete Response Letter, that CTI may not be able to re-submit the pixantrone NDA quickly, that CTI may not be able to fill the additional information for the NDA later this year, that CTI may not obtain approval of the NDA from the FDA in the first half of 2012, CTI's ability to continue to raise capital as needed to fund its operations, competitive factors, technological developments, costs of developing, producing and selling pixantrone, and the risk factors listed or described from time to time in CTI's filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission including, without limitation, CTI's most recent filings on Forms 10-K, 10-Q and 8-K. Except as may be required by law, CTI does not intend to update or alter its forward-looking statements whether as a result of new information, future events, or otherwise.

Cell Therapeutics meets with FDA

Puget Sound Business Journal
Date: Tuesday, June 14, 2011, 6:38am PDT

Cell Therapeutics Inc. said it met with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's division of Oncology Drug Products and received guidance on how to resubmit its pixantrone drug for approval.

In May, the Seattle biotech (NASDAQ: CTIC) received news from the FDA that pixantrone would need a review "utilizing a new independent panel of radiologists." After the latest meeting, Cell Therapeutics was given guidance on how to resubmit pixantrone's new drug application (NDA) and the FDA said the NDA would be reviewed within six months of the application.

Cell Therapeutics said it plans to file the additional information later this year, and it could obtain FDA approval in the first half of 2012.

"We now have a pathway to move forward with resubmitting the NDA for potential accelerated approval of pixantrone in patients with multiple relapsed or refractory aggressive NHL, which is a stage of this disease for which there are no approved agents. We are excited to have been given this rare second opportunity for review of the NDA and we have made this resubmission our top priority," said Dr. Jack Singer, chief medical officer of Cell Therapeutics, in a statement.
