Since it reached year high of $24.95 last December, it pulled back but steadily returned its uptrend again.

It formed an ascending trendline and is ready to break-out it and year-end targer: $30

See chart

shawFund

AMD has broken out the flat base ($21.20 is the resistance). Today is traded at $21.90 so far.

$30 by year-end.

AMD break-out, year-end target: $30 - 50% gain

AMD's Opteron dual core 64-bit chip has made great inroads against Intel, AMD is targeting 12% market share by year's end.

October 10 earnings are expected to beat estimates, and rumors abound regarding new dual core and quad core Opterons that will far outstrip Intel's dual core 64-bit chip XEON, shipping for the first time later this month (they claim)

AMD is closely allied with SUNW, so it may follow her up.

I want to cut back on bullish plays, but this one looks hard to resist.

Haven't pulled the trigger, thinking about it.

Okay...if Tuesday gives us a decent candlestick, today's doji will be revealed as a Morning Star.

I'm in.

robt,

I really enjoy your posts.  Applause.

If earnings meet expectations, I'm wondering if AMD will rally early, then go back and fill the 23.01-23.20 gap on a "sell the news."   ???

The analysts made two horrible calls on AMD in January, and one good one in August. (see chart).  It's interesting to watch these guys.  The first bad call was EXACTLY the morning after AMD broke a H&S top.  The second bad call was EXACTLY the day before the big gap down when the company warned.

Kinda fishy  ::)

They seem to know that they're "caught holding" in a technically vulnerable stock (or they know that an earnings warning is coming out), so they upgrade the stocks, then unload them.  Same kind of upgrade nonsense in STX last month, EXACTLY the day after STX broke support.  Pump and dump.

Good call out of Lehman in August, though.  At least somebody is legit.  ;D

I like SUNW here if I can get it near the little Ascending Triangle re-test at 4.00-4.01.

I'm overbuying moderately, so I can easily take profits early without worrying about a top, then keep an eye on the tape for the optimal exit for the remainder. But I think the choppiness in AMD since mid-Sept has left it in fairly strong hands who aren't likely to get panicky.

Ignore the crappy chart below! AMD is currently halted for earnings; they have announced a blow-out quarter, more than double the mean estimate of 8c/share -- 18c per share on record-breaking revs of $1.523 billion.

After recent disappointment with the action in DESC, PTN and KFX, I was feeling a little shakey about today's action in AMD -- it traded down all day, reaching a low of 22.70. However, when it turned sharply upward at the close, I steeled myself and increased my holdings a moderate amount -- enough to salve my DESC wounds...

As I write, trading has resumed. The current AH price is 23.90 and heading UP.

addendum: the conferenvce call hasn't started yet, and already trading has lost a lot of steam...Wall ST. was disappointed by AAPL toay, and that seems to be dragging down all tech.

damn you, AAPL!  >:(

BLOOD IN THE STREETS!

Beaten up before earnings, and beaten MORE after "blow-out" numbers!

God, was this a wrong trade!

I sold @ 22.08, shares I bought at 23.50 average.

Late trading found AMD down to 20.86, where I bought again.  Closed at 21.00, a 10% punishment for blow-out numbers.

Here's the UGLY picture...

ouch robt,

sounds like you've had as rough a ride as me lately - bought into AAPL yesterday with exactly the same result - I suppose I was lucky in that they rebounded hard in PM today, and have held well so far.

Not good though, need to seriously re-think my trading plans AGAIN as everything I touch seems to nose dive, killing any gains - DESC, OMNI, HEB, CGMI, have all given up gains to tank.

Seems like breakouts are breaking down all over the place right now  >:D

Maybe David can give us some light  ???

I'm shopping for more short positions.

AMD yielded a bit of a bounce, not as healthy as AAPL's. At 9:35 I closed at 21.30, happy to see that much after yesterday's bloodshed.

It closed the day a bit better, at 21.63. Below is a 15-minute chart of the day.

If you're holding shares in this you will want to be watching very close. MACD is in a negative convergence , usually that is a sign that stock might be ready to start its downward trend.
Goodluck trading :)
