With the price of copper and gold showing no signs of slowing down, here is a little known company positioned to cash in on the rise.  NTO is a profitable company that owns a 12.5% interest in the Alumbrera mine in Argentina.  NTO also owns the Agua Rica mine in Argentina, which is undergoing a bankable feasibility study, due to be completed in mid 2006.  Agua Rica has over $100 BILLION (yes, billion) in gold, copper, and moly reserves.

Take a look at the company website for more info:

For you technicians out there, correct me if I'm wrong, but it appears that NTO may soon form a golden cross (rising 20dma crosses above the declining 50dma) if the uptrend continues.  Tomorrow's trading may confirm.

Stocksquire

NTO is performing nicely so far today.  It has key resistance at $3.00, which it has been fighting this morning.  If it can hold $3.00 today, there is some nice upside to the $3.40 area.  Of course, the share price is very sensitive to the price of gold and copper, which is up nicely today.

Stocksquire

NTO closed very strong today, and looks like it is in breakout mode.  The company is discussed on the front page of resourceinvestor.com tonight:

Chart is looking great, with a very powerful move during the last half hour of trading:

Thanks for the compliment, setravis.  I was fortunate with NTO and got in back around $2.40, just as it was starting this climb.

NTO, like other mining companies, is highly sensitive to the price swings in copper and gold, so be sure to monitor those prices when entering.  I use www.kitco.com for gold prices, and www.kitcometals.com for copper prices.

Have you any knowledge of this one, PERU COPPER (AMEX: CUP) .
I think it is kind of new ,the chart history only goes back to middle of April this year.
I want clutter up your thread by posting a chart a chart of it here, I will just add the link to it.
Take a look at it .

I'm somewhat familiar with CUP.  It made an incredible run, and I played it for a quick trade of about .25 during part of the run last week.  I traded it solely on technicals, and did not do much due diligence.  From what little dd I did do, I recall that the run may have been related to possibility that the company would sell some or all of its assets.  Thanks for reminding me about CUP.

Unlike many the many stocks that I trade then forget about, NTO is one that I have stayed with for about the last year and a half.  I do trade out of it on major spikes and buy back lower, but I truly believe that this company has a great future because of the riches buried in its Agua Rica mine ($100 billion in defined reserves).  I think they are a prime canidate for a takeover, and I just hope that I'm not in between trades if a takeover is announed (although I always maintain a core position that I do not trade).  Even without a takeover, this little company will be in the big leagues once the feasibility study on Agua Rica is completed during mid 2006.  I am expecting a runup to that time, but there will of course be corrections along the way.

Stocksquire

NTO, like many mining companies, has made an incredible run over the past 6 weeks.  I believe that the bull run for metals such as gold and copper still has a ways to go, and I really believe that NTO is going to be a monster in '06.  As long as there are no problems or significant delays with the Agua Rica bankable feasibility study, due out mid '06, I think NTO will either at least double in share price on its own, or be taken out by a senior miner for at least $7 to $8 a share.  It will no doubt be a bumpy rise along the way, with significant dips and spikes on a day to day basis.  I like to hold a core position and play with some trading shares on the spikes.

As always, please do your own DD.

This one is still running, which doesn't come as much of a suprise considering the bull market in the underlying commodities. I may add to this position if it comes back down to the trend line.

AP
Meridian Can't Find Alternate Buyers
Friday September 7, 2:05 pm ET
By Adam Schreck, AP Business Writer
Meridian Gold Says Third Parties Are No Longer Attempting to Acquire Company

NEW YORK (AP) -- Mining company Meridian Gold Inc. said Friday it has failed to attract alternate offers to counter an unsolicited takeover bid by Canadian miner Yamana Gold Inc.
Shareholders of the Reno, Nev.-based company are set to vote on Yamana's three-way deal Friday. The cash-and-stock offer, which would also fold in Canadian gold miner Northern Orion Resources Inc., values Meridian shares at about $31.56 apiece based on closing prices Thursday.

Earlier in the day, Meridian again urged shareholders to reject what it called "Yamana's inadequate offer," saying its own shares offer investors "a superior value proposition."

But the company acknowledged it had been unable to drum up competing offers to quash the Toronto company's bid.

"Although several parties expressed very serious interest in a potential acquisition of the company, each of them has now informed the company that, for their own internal reasons, they will not be submitting proposals at this time," Meridian Chairman Brian Kennedy said in a statement.

Meridian shares have fluctuated wildly since the offer was made in June, but have shot up in recent days as the shareholder vote neared. The stock is now trading near Yamana's purchase price, suggesting traders are confident the deal with go through.

By early afternoon, Meridian shares were changing hands for $29.44.

Yamana is offering Meridian shareholders 2.235 Yamana shares plus 4 Canadian dollars ($3.80) in cash for each share they own. Based on Yamana's closing price of $12.42 Thursday, the offer works out to $31.56 per share.

Peter Marrone, Yamana's chairman and chief executive, said in an interview he was confident Meridian shareholders would vote in favor of the deal.

"We're offering a very fair premium. We're offering a full price for a stock that is already recognized as expensive. We're offering a stock that has a significant upside and we're offering a company that is best of breed," he said. "I think shareholders will see this as a prudent thing to do."

The proposition facing voters was sweetened last month to what Marrone then called "a full, fair and final price." The original offer, made June 28, offered Meridian shareholders 2.235 Yamana shares plus 3.15 Canadian dollars ($2.99) in cash.

Marrone declined to discuss his company's next move should shareholders reject the bid.

"It's speculating on something that I fundamentally believe will not occur," he said Friday. "We believe there is significant support for this deal."

By early afternoon, Yamana shares had lost 72 cents, or 5.8 percent, to trade at $11.70. At that price, the deal would be worth closer to $29.95 a share.

Northern Orion Shareholders Approve Plan of Arrangement With Yamana Gold Inc.
Wednesday August 22, 2:10 pm ET

UPDATE - Northern Orion OKs Yamana deal, Meridian opposed
at Reuters (Wed, Aug 22)

Wednesday August 22, 2:10 pm ET

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(MARKET WIRE)--Aug 22, 2007 -- Northern Orion Resources Inc. (Toronto:NNO.TO - News)(AMEX:NTO - News) is pleased to announce that its shareholders have approved the Plan of Arrangement with Yamana Gold Inc. ("Yamana"). At a Special Meeting of Northern Orion shareholders held in Vancouver earlier today, the Arrangement was approved by 83.1% of the votes cast and no notices of dissent were received.

Under the terms of the Arrangement, Northern Orion shareholders will receive 0.543 of a Yamana share plus Cdn.$0.001 in cash for each Northern Orion share. Among other regulatory requirements, completion of the Arrangement between Northern Orion and Yamana remains subject to at least 66 2/3% of Meridian Gold Inc. ("Meridian") shares being tendered to the Yamana offer for Meridian. Yamana's offer for Meridian is scheduled to expire on September 7, 2007.

Commenting on the results, David Cohen, Northern Orion's President and CEO said, "Northern Orion's strong shareholder support for the Arrangement demonstrates our clear commitment to the business combination with Yamana. This positive vote also considerably simplifies the transaction involving Northern Orion, Yamana and Meridian in that an essential condition has now been removed from the transaction. We continue to believe that the resulting company will have one of the strongest growth profiles and cash flow generating abilities in the intermediate gold producer category."
