on the main page have wondered why the % g/l does never seem correct

today it shows the gains for today at .4% for open positions but the average for the 7 open positions would be .865% and for the total g/l of open positions it shows 1.67 but of the 7 open positions today the average gain is 3.59%

since each position is and equal $ amount cannot you just ad up the column and devide by the number of open positions?

Thanks

Hi metro,

A few weeks ago, we've changed the method for today's G/L and Open G/L.
We were doing like you just said, but we add a new factor, which is the % invested:
Example:
Only one open position, and moving 1.5% up
-> since the complete portfolio (100% invested) would be 15 positions,
Today's G/L is just 0.1% and not 1.5%

That way we reflect on a better way the real performance on the total equity... in this example, on a first look we may think that the $286,000 portfolio was moving 1.5%... when in fact our gain was just 0.1% of that total.

Thanks - So like today even though the invested port is up 1.7% the total is 0.65% as some funds are in cash..got it.

Exactly!
We are only 40% invested and with 60% in cash right now, so the real performance of our open positions is only affecting 40% of our total equity. That explains your question ;)
