Short-term, the Bearish Island Reversal and yesterday's close below the neckline (2.31) of a "Mini" H&S Top concern me.  Today's high so far is 2.30, just below the broken neckline.

uc,

The high on Wednesday ended up being 2.31.  Yesterday's high was 2.30.

Yesterday's 2.21 low and close of 2.22 didn't have much chance to hold, technically speaking, given that we just finish the "Mini" H&S top ten cents above that price level, and CNXT found resistance there the past two days.  "Former support should act as resistance."  It did.

Today's low is 2.13, just about smack on the trendline breakout of the BIG Inverse H&S breakout.  That's got a chance to hold, especially if we put in a Bullish Hammer today off that trendline at 2.13, and close up near yesterday's 2.21-2.22 low/close.

The "Mini" H&S Top, however, put 1.90 IN PLAY when 2.31 broke.   >:(

Math:

Head was 2.72.
Neckline was 2.31.

2.72 - 2.31 = 0.41 points

Broken neckline at 2.31 - 0.41 points = Target: 1.90 IN PLAY

Since we had a bulllish breakout out of a BIG Ascending Triangle on November 3, that downside target of 1.90 might not get made.  Bearish targets are less likely to get made when the trend is bullish.  CNXT is bullish, and the Ascending Triangle target of  3.39 still is IN PLAY as long as CNXT closes above the breakout, currently at 2.13.

If CNXT closes below that breakout, the breakout is suspect.  It could be a false breakout, and the upside target of 3.39 goes ON HOLD until we see if CNXT can get back above the breakout.

CNXT currently is BID 2.20...ASK 2.21, so it has bounced off the 2.13 trendline breakout, and the Bullish Hammer possibility (or better) looks good.  So far.

Good luck if you decide to play it!

EDIT: On the chart, the text below the horizontal green line should read "Top of Inverse H&S breakout," not "Top of Triangle."  Sorry.

Conexant Expands Low-Power Wi-Fi Portfolio with New Platform for Embedded Applications
Monday December 19, 8:00 am ET
High-performance Platform Includes Innovative Self-hosted Client Technology

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 19, 2005--Conexant Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:CNXT - News), a worldwide leader in semiconductor solutions for broadband communications and the digital home, today extended its low-power wireless networking product portfolio with the launch of a new platform based on the company's power-efficient 802.11 a/b/g chip and new self-hosted client technology. The platform is targeted at low-power and high-performance devices with embedded wireless networking functionality including cellular phones, digital cameras, MP3 players, printers, handheld point-of-sale (POS) terminals, personal digital assistants (PDAs), and set-top boxes.

These power-sensitive consumer electronics products generally require low-power semiconductor solutions such as Conexant's in order to maximize battery life. They also need additional processing power to support Wi-Fi functionality, which results in the need for manufacturers to re-design their products with a higher performance, more expensive central processing unit (CPU). Conexant solved this issue by providing the necessary computing power using the company's unique self-hosted client technology. This allows manufacturers to easily add Wi-Fi into current products, while considerably reducing product development costs, and hastening time-to-market.

"We focused on maximizing flexibility and optimizing processing power to provide a robust and cost-effective solution that allows embedded Wi-Fi developers to meet stringent power parameters, while minimizing design-cycle times and associated costs," said Chee Kwan, vice president and general manager of Conexant's Wireless Networking business. "As a result, manufacturers can now economically add Wi-Fi functionality to mass market products. In turn, they can provide their customers with products that include the convenience of wireless networking, without a commensurate increase in price."

A key feature of Conexant's new embedded platform is the company's unique self-hosted client technology, which provides a path to zero-host loading for wireless functionality. This capability eliminates the need for manufacturers to re-engineer products with a more powerful CPU, which is a costly and time consuming effort. A fully programmable medium access controller (MAC) software architecture further maximizes design flexibility. In addition, the platform is compatible with popular host processors, operating systems and interfaces including universal serial bus (USB) 2.0, secure digital input/output (SDIO), serial peripheral interface (SPI), compact flash (CF) and peripheral component interconnect (PCI).

The platform also includes support for Internet protocol endpoint termination on all interfaces. A complete security implementation at the network card enables no-host loading and a faster path for customers to incorporate wireless functionality into embedded systems.

The company's low-power Wi-Fi chip is also a part of the new embedded platform. This solution includes Conexant's PowerSave technology, which provides an intelligent power control capability, an industry-leading low power standby mode, and reduces peak and overall power consumption for extended battery life.

Conexant is a pioneer in wireless networking and offers an extensive suite of solutions including IEEE 802.11a/b/g and dual-band (2.4 and 5 GHz) chipsets, firmware, software, drivers and reference designs. Conexant Introduces World's Smallest PCI Express Broadcast Decoder for PC-Based Multimedia Applications
Tuesday January 3, 8:00 am ET
Company Sets New Record with Broadcast Decoder and Encoder Shipments Exceeding 50 Million

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 3, 2006--Conexant Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:CNXT - News), a worldwide leader in semiconductor solutions for broadband communications and the digital home, today introduced the industry's smallest-form-factor, PCI Express(TM) 1.0a-compliant and 1.1-ready audio/video (A/V) broadcast decoder. The CX23885 is targeted at multimedia applications such as watching television or listening to the radio on a personal computer (PC). PCI Express is a serial bus technology that enables cost-effective and scalable video capture on PCs and other consumer electronics devices. The company also announced that it set a new industry milestone, with cumulative shipments of broadcast decoders and encoders exceeding 50 million units.

The CX23885 is the first in a family of planned devices. The versatile new device captures and decodes both analog and digital television broadcasts, and supports worldwide audio and video standards. In addition, the single-chip solution integrates all of the functions required to perform television and external A/V capture. This flexibility provides manufacturers with economies of scale, allowing them to develop a broad range of products that support both analog and digital broadcasts in standard or high-definition formats.

"New technologies such as PCI Express are required to support higher-quality multimedia applications on consumer electronics devices," said Al Servati, division director of Convergence Video products for Conexant. "Our new A/V decoder provides manufacturers with a single-chip solution that speeds and simplifies the transition to PCI Express, allowing them to bring products to market more quickly and economically."

Conexant's fourth-generation device represents another landmark in the company's video innovation timeline. Additional pioneering developments include creating the PCI video decoder category. The company also introduced the industry's first single-chip MPEG audio/video codec, delivered the world's most widely deployed MPEG audio/video encoder, and launched the first single-chip video encoder and digital video interface (DVI) transmitter.

The high level of audio and video integration in the CX23885 eliminates the need for additional broadcast audio decoding and processing chips, or external sound demodulation chips. This allows developers to reduce bill-of-material (BOM) costs without compromising audio and video quality. The chip is optimized for regional broadcast requirements, and is backward-compatible with the company's CX25843 A/V decoder. Additional planned devices will also be offered in pin-compatible configurations, enabling manufacturers to develop multiple products with a variety of features and price points using a single integrated device.

To enable faster time to market, Conexant offers multiple CX23885 PCI Express and ExpressCard(TM) reference designs. All of the reference designs include schematics, layout files, and evaluation boards with production-ready device drivers.

Availability, Packaging and Pricing

The CX23885 is sampling now with volume production scheduled for the second quarter of 2006. The chip is packaged in a 14mm x 14mm lead-free 128-pin exposed thin quad flat pack (ETQFP), and is priced at $10 each in production quantities.

CNXT is bullish, and the Ascending Triangle target of  3.39 still is IN PLAY as long as CNXT closes above the breakout, currently at 2.13.

CNXT currently is BID 2.20...ASK 2.21, so it has bounced off the 2.13 trendline breakout, and the Bullish Hammer possibility (or better) looks good.  So far.

Terlisa,

Man, would I like to have that one back!   ;D

Rather than let the "possible" H&S Top and the Bearish Island Reversal bother me so much, I should have bought it right there on the upside reversal back to "unchanged" at BID 2.20..ASK 2.21.

THE RE-TEST OF THE FIFTEEN MONTH INVERSE H&S NECKLINE HELD AT 2.13!!!

Duh-h-h...  ::)

That would have been a nice low-risk entry; let the market stop me out if 2.13 didn't hold.

Lesson learned.

CNXT has a "gap to crap" today on the Lehman upgrade, but the stock has rallied 26% off that 2.13 bang off the successful neckline re-test.   I like the fact that CNXT has printed above the left shoulder high of 2.55.

You've done a nice job, staying on top of this one.  Applause.

EDIT: An analyst on CNBC made positive comments on CNXT just as I posted this.  The stock was at unchanged on the day...it's back up eight cents, near the opening high.

LB upgrade yesterday was a mild disappointment - price target was risen from 2.6$ to 3$.

good news are:

- rising volume
- clear trend
- insider options excercised @2.11

thinking about entering.target: 4$ in 3mo perspective.

Goodluck Melf Elf!!  ;) :D

Thanks, Terlisa...good luck to you, too!  ;D

After the 26% rally off 2.13, yesterday looks like a "sell the news" short-term double top.

1. "Gap to crap" open on the Lehman upgrade ended at 2.68.

2. Positive analyst comments as I was posting to you rallied the stock to 2.68 again, then the good news got sold off into the close.

The middle of the Double Top is 2.54 (see chart).  If that gets taken out, it puts 2.40 IN PLAY, short-term.

Math:

2.68 - 2.54 = 0.14.........2.54 - 0.14 = 2.40.

A 50% retracement of the rally from 2.13 to 2.68 would be 2.405, which reinforces the 2.40 target if we take out 2.54.  That's a reasonable retracement after the 26% rally.

Melf Elf

The print of 2.80 at 9:35AM looks like a bad tick.  I think 2.68 still is the high.  The fact that there wasn't any other trading in the 2.70s and the fact that CNXT isn't participating in today's rally (it's UNCH at 2.60) would seem to support that.  FWIW.

metro

Did not find a page for CNXT - guess we need a running page for break out posts - or not..

Next point for CNXT as shown at 2.72 or maybe a pullback to the 9-day EMA is you like.

ON break out plays you want to see heavy volume for better success and it is god  to sell part on the first nice move.
