I have updated the template this weekend.

10/50 MA, although it is a short-term indicator, for current market conditions and the purpose of swing trading, hasn't demonstrated to be a fast enough indicator.

I replaced 10/50 MA with 5/20 MA and it should be a better shorter-term indicator.

I couldn't post due to 3stocksonfire.org not opening.  Looks like it's back up now.

Apparently, 3stocksonfire had some server problems.

Let's do some catch up.  EGHT failed to gain and RSI dropped back down towards 50.  Perhaps early profit taking.  Will it gain back towards RSI 70?

Here's template for TIII two days ago.  Keep in mind that TIII trading volume is generally not that high.  I normally recommend that you focus on stocks with high volume.

AVNX may be rebounding also.

Another point of interest is ENG.  Although its price was above the $5 target I use for swing trading, perhaps I may start looking at higher priced stocks for swing trading.  It's recent gains were tremendous.  With RSI way above 70-80, look for profit taking.

Hi livelife!!!! I like the change in the MA. It works better in the short term :D
Keep it simple !!

Thanks nica33.  The change in MA was recommended previously and I agree also.  Just trying to develop a better tool that 3stocksonfire members and visitors can use to make money instead of losing money stock trading.   ;)

I completely missed CNXT.  Snooze and you lose.  This is one of many reasons why you should continue to monitor the recommendations of 3stocksonfire.

Look at the volumes traded!

EGHT, AVNX rebounding activity today with CNXT continuing it's climb.  According to template, TIII should continue rebounding.  As indicated by RSI above 70-80, profit taking with ENG.

I didn't get much chance to do posting.  Getting ready for a trip out of town this weekend.

Those speculating with GZFX, nice rebound today.  Have a nice holiday weekend everyone!

If you use the template and follow the RSI (14), ENG and CNXT took profit as RSI rose above 70-80.  EGHT continues its climb and AVNX gained well.

Also, notice the MACD.  If MACD has peaked and declining, price may continue to fall before rebounding.  If you look at MACD for EGHT and AVNX, MACD has bottomed and rebounding, and price should gain until MACD peaks.

At the beginning of this MB thread, I mentioned HANS for Roth IRA.  If you look at the chart, HANS once again gained from $50 to $100.  HANS went from $5 to $100 in about a year and split last fall.  It may split again to repeat the cycle.

HANS makes natural soda and energy drink Monster, which has gained market share away from Red Bull energy drink.

YES, LL
I have marveled at your guts to put large amounts in one place.. HANS is doing great, i have stood by and watched all the way from the recent $65...  never jumped in, RSI has been so high for so long!  Similarly with Whole foods, WFMI.
Do you have any up your sleeve currently that you see this kind of growth?
One of the solid posters here at 3 stocks compared ADAM with HANS... Thoughts
I like your template, but do you have another way of looking for longer term?  With the swing trade template these would have been sold long ago and missed big upside?  Have you tried applying this template to ETF's or Funds?
I bought some more GMFX at .0107, today to average down my Turkey day exuberance buy at .0223!! Will see if i can come out ahead in that one.  HOM is doing well for me, sold most of NVAX and am hoping for another pull back below 4.

joet, thanks for the comments.

By definition, swing trading is short-term stock trading with 1-3 stocks traded within 1-3 days using short-term technical indicators and therefore do not take into consideration of long-term indicators like company fundamentals (earning, P/E ratio, debt, cash flow, etc.).  So the swing trading template won't help much for long-term stock trading.

For longer-term stock trading (more than 1 week) you can start with a "stock filter" like the one at moneycentral, Yahoo, etc. to narrow down the stocks:

http://moneycentral.msn.com/investor/finder/deluxestockscreen.aspx?query=One-Week+High-Volume+Gainers&btnQryFrm=Go

I like using the "quick and easy" filter at moneycentral because with one click of the mouse, you can choose the mostly commonly used filter parameters (volume gain intraday, week, month, etc. with 50/200 MA crosses).  Using the various filter parameters such as Institutional ownership gain and 50/200 MA crosses, you can further narrow down your choices to select the stocks for long-term gain.

My theory is that if a stock gain is supported by volume increase with large interest by institutional fund managers (mutual fund managers typically buy for long term) and the stock is crossing 50 and 200 MA, it indicates a "BUY" for longer term stock trading.

Perhaps, I can work on a "long-term" stock trading template in the future.  ;)

I haven't done much work on long-term stock trading, so I can't comment on ADAM, WFMI, GMFX nor applying the template to ETF's/funds.

I will work on posting other filters and tools I have used in the past for you and other 3SOF long-term traders later this week.

This is a follow up to joet and many others' request for longer-term stock trading.  If you recall the "quick and easy" stock filter, AVII was on top of the list - it still is the weekly volume leader:

For this short-term swing trader, I am walking on uncharted territory here - to develop a longer-term stock trading template.  Perhaps this can be a "mid-term swing trading template"  :D

Here we go.  (Note:  If you look at AVII's chart, you will notice that I have changed the MA to 10/50 and I have increased the time frame to 6 months.  This will give us a "bigger" picture for longer-term stock trading.)

So, how can we develop a template for longer-term stock trading?  Bear with me, and let's struggle together with this.  ;)

#1.  As I stated before, I think "one week high volume gainer" is a good filter to start with.
http://moneycentral.msn.com/investor/finder/deluxestockscreen.aspx?query=One-Week+High-Volume+Gainers&btnQryFrm=Go

#2.  10/50 MA is what I learned from David Randolph.  If you look at the 10/50 MA, you should buy when 10 MA (blue) bottoms and begins to cross the 50 MA (red).  David normally holds as long as 10 MA stays above 50 MA.

#3.  Let's use "Institutional Ownership Up Last Month" as our second filter.  I will go more in detail later as to why this is significant.
http://moneycentral.msn.com/investor/finder/deluxestockscreen.aspx?query=Institutional+Ownership+Up+Last+Month&btnQryFrm=Go

Another tool I have used in the past is the "Lycos I-Watch"  I have found that I-watch is not accurate, but a good guideline to use in respect to Institutional/Mutual Fund manager interest in a stock:

http://thomson.finance.lycos.com/lycos/iwatch/cgi-bin/iw_ticker?t=AVII&range=30&mgp=0&x=10&y=13&hdate=

Light/Solid Blue indicates "buy" interests and Pink/Solid Red indicates "sell" interests.

So, if we find a volume gainer stock that has significant institutional interest, it should be a good candidate for our "mid-term" swing trading.

It's 1 AM, and way past my bed time.  I will continue on with the next post.

Good night.

I ran a 6 month chart for ENG and it would have been a good mid-term stock.

I also checked about the first 20 stocks on the volume leader list and RTK looked very good.  Also, there wasn't much I-watch activity for ENG and there was for RTK.

And how about ALTI from the list also?

Challenge for developing a mid-term swing trading template is to identify these stocks as they start their gain and/or rebound.  It will be a learning experience for me.  ;)
