Capstone MicroTurbines at RI Natural Gas Co. Surpass 45,000 Operating Hours
Wednesday January 11, 8:05 am ET
Innovative Power Generators Have Operated Nearly Non-Stop for More than 5 Years

CHATSWORTH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 11, 2006--Capstone Turbine Corporation® (www.microturbine.com; Nasdaq: CPST - News), the world's leading manufacturer of microturbine energy systems, announced that two of its 30-kilowatt microturbines currently operating at New England Gas Company in Rhode Island surpassed a milestone of more than 45,000 hours of near continuous operation.

"New England Gas Company, which serves more than a quarter-million customers in Rhode Island and Massachusetts, was an early supporter of distributed generation," said Capstone CEO John R. Tucker. "Their two Capstone C30s have been running nearly non-stop for more than five years, accumulating more than 45,000 hours of operation thus far."

"We are elated with the performance of these Capstone MicroTurbine® systems at our Cumberland facility," said New England Gas Company CEO Thomas C. Robillard. "We believe that this product, and its proven reliability, enhances the viability of distributed generation. I'm also pleased to see Capstone now leading the charge here in the Northeast for energy conservation using clean, efficient distributed generation."

The gas utility's two C30 systems create power 24/7, reducing demand on the local utility grid. "We're focused on seeing how far we can push the two little beauties we've been running here since 2000," said New England Gas Company Technician Bob Tousignant.

Capstone MicroTurbines are very low emission, very high efficiency generators of power and heat used to reduce energy costs and increase energy security at a variety of businesses and public facilities. With only one moving part and no need for oil, lubricant, coolant, other hazardous materials or even water, Capstone MicroTurbines are most often deployed in combined heat and power (CHP) applications in which the exhaust heat is used to heat water or to drive absorption chillers - which create cold from heat energy instead of electric energy - in combined cooling, heating and power (CCHP) applications.

Several examples of Capstone's CHP and CCHP installations will be featured at the US Department of Energy's Microturbine Applications Workshop (www.ms.ornl.gov/maw06/default.html) being held next week in San Francisco. In addition to several end-user presentations, the workshop will feature a tour January 19 of a utility site in Oakland that operates an array of ten C60 Capstone MicroTurbines as well as a tour highlighting four 60-kilowatt Capstone-made systems driving an OEM CCHP installation at the San Francisco Ritz-Carlton Hotel.

Saw that piece, but it was released first thing in the morning and didn't seem noteworthy enough to warrrant the sudden mid day spike.

Today has shown a little pullback so far, but 3.48 zone seems to be holding.  The 3 month chart shows a very nice ascending triangle breakout from key resistance at 3.34.  So for now, I will hold as long as it does not close below this level - represents a risk of just over 5%.  Next target 3.80+ - may have legs to get above 4?

Triangle formation nearing its point.
Looks to have formed a Symmetrical Triangle (continuation) Pattern.
Based on the high volume up days, IMHO, I think this one will breakout to the upside.
13-dma is nearing crossover of the 50-dma.

Looks like we have a major breakout on CPST today ;D

on this news:
http://www.corporate-ir.net/ireye/ir_site.zhtml?ticker=cpst&script=410&layout=7&item_id=807601

Is up almost 14% pre-market, with over 750,000 shares already traded this morning.  Pushing $4 and should break easily into $4 range today.  Head up :o

ScottishTrader

Well, I guess I was a little overexcited yesterday in my expectations, but I still believe CPST can break $4 soon.  It sold off pretty steadily for most of the morning, bottoming at what I see now as key support at 3.63 - the level of the highest recent closes.  It regained some ground, but was stumped at resistance at 3.85.  This looks now to be the next important barrier to get through.

However, the news yesterday was big, and while it did not guarantee any deals, opens up an important new revenue channel, which has major implications to Capstone's bottom line.  I think as the news is digested, this will have a positive impact on the share price.

Technically, after the breakout from the major symmetric triangle, it retraced down the descending support, making a perfect bounce at the confluence of ascending and descending trendlines.  This technical action to me looks quite positive. Right now, I think I will let it run, but do not want to see it move below 3.63, as I expect this would signal a move back to the support line.

ScottishTrader

Well we saw below 3.63 on the sell-off, but actually I think today's action worked out quite nicely.  CPST put in a nice hammer, bouncing off the 50MA, and looks primed to resume it's uptrend.

Having a look at the chart, I believe that the pattern fits better on the logarythmic chart.  From this chart, we can see that the symmetric triangle breakout was only achieved on Tuesday, after the news about the GSA approval:

http://www.google.com/search?oi=stock&q=stocks:CPST&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dcpst%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26c2coff%3D1%26client%3Dsafari%26rls%3Den

There was a small ascending triangle that broke out above resistance at 3.34 with a target of 3.34-2.75 = .59 + 3.34 = 3.93  which was made on that breakout high (now I wish I had paid attentioon to this at the time).

However, the big symmetric triangle has a target of 5.89-2.25 = 3.64 + 3.55 = 7.14.  Now that could be the long term target, whiich would make a nice double from these levels.  I'm pretty sure we will be pushing at $4 again soon. ;)

Big news out today for CPST - probably the reason for yesterday's afternoon run up to 3.75:

Capstone and Broad Sign MOU for Business Development
http://biz.yahoo.com/bw/060131/20060131005448.html?.v=1

Looks very promising agreement and should generate significant future revenues (though nothing detailed of course.

Bid is currently at 3.93 PM, so here's hoping it breaks $4 this morning.  After a bit of a tentative start, this coould be the real beginning of the symmetric triangle breakout formation.

Also note: Earnings are coming up - scheduled for 9th Feb.

CPST at the bottom of supporting trendline and 50MA - not a very nice candle yesterday, but on fairly low volume.  Today should be interesting, with earnings out tonight.  Either it finds support here today, and tomorrow gives us a breakout, or it breaks down through the bottom of the triangle and heads south.  Hopefully, today's action should give us some indication of which way it wants to go.

Earnings are not expected to be stellar, but they could surprise - I think most people will be focusing on what their expectations are for 2006.

Any other thoughts?

boatguy

I was hoping for spike into earnings-

Out with small loss at 3.50, I'm not willing to hold through earnings so will watch for a chance to get back in if news is good. This stock seems to like to gap up and then pulls back so hopefully if news is good can still get a good price.
