So much for my pick.  I thought it was glued to $4.50 and in just 2 days already lost over 5%.

I must be the kiss-of-death on this one.

vic666

rather than including the top 5 winners from each edition, I'd go for the star edition inviting those that have performed consistently the best on a gross average of all 10 contests (with a minimum no. of participating contest being 7-8).

In other words, the contestants are gonna be those 20-25 members that have had a consistent track of picking winners and trading them (buy and sell at the right time) that had led them to get consitent good returns.

of course, we should have to exclude the 1st edition (because of the different rules back then). apologies to the winners of that contest.  ;D

any thoughts??  :)

Vic - I totally disagree!! Since I won the first edition that might be affecting my perspective ;)

Almost 80% of the 4th edition picks are in the red! This is reflective of the market as a whole this week. The fella who picked MBAY should have sold at the open today. That would have been a 15.6% gain one-day gain. At the rate we're going this month, that might have been good enough to win.

lucas...just trying to have the all-star version fair, nothing against the winner of the first contest, i.e. yourself  :D

haing said that, your lines "Almost 80% of the 4th edition picks are in the red! This is reflective of the market as a whole this week." is precisely the reason why I suggested we go for consistent stock pickers rather than the top 3 from each edition. IMO, good stock pickers should be able to pick stocks no matter what kinda market it is, bullish or bearish.

having siad that, another thing I'd like to suggest to Randolph and Ramsburg is to include the ability to "short stocks" as part of the stock picking contest. not as a separate contest, but members should have the liberty to choose to go long or short and either sell their long positions or buy back their short positons at any time...in that way, traders will also get to show their potential in a bear market through their short picks.

ur thoughts are welcome on this.  ;)

BTW, congratulations on your win in the first contest.  :)

@%^&#$% Ivan is sucking @%#$&*.  Thought I had sumthin, then got filled on a gap up. Then sold out like a cheap shoe.  This market is CRAZY.  There has to be a HUGE opportunity out there.  Where is it?   Feeling like the confusion is intentionally imposed to keep people guessing.  Smart money is going somewhere. Where?  I suspect CASH. Nuttin' like nuts.  Keep on rockin' fellow 3SOF'ers.  Eye's open, Legs shut.----Ship

Not sure if anyone has taken notice of my pick MCU, MPH on the TSE,  (which unfortunately wasn't allowed in the contest because I didn't get my 10 posts in until later that evening) but I posted some excellent T/A and Fundamental Analysis.  Very Well worth dropping some money into it and made another nice move today.  I did post it on the Channeling forum if you wish to view it. ;)  ........  ;D    Dead

Just watched the Phenominal Interview by Dr. Friesen of Medicure on ROB tv.  Here's the link, just scroll down to the 2:50pm timeslot on Wednesday.  You'll be glad you did.

Bert was so excited he could barely contain himself! Considering he's normally stiff and dry it was very refreshing and you could just see that he wanted to spill the beens but had to bite his lip! I think we're going to see a very Explosive year! When Dr. Friesen alluded to market cap at the end and suggested a comparable company upon forming a Partnership going into Phase 3 could hit a market cap of $750mill., $1 bill, or even as high as $2bill. he looked like a kid in a candy store for the first time. Out Standing!! The lowest point would give us a potential Five bagger by the end of summer....... Keep in mind Dr F's Very Conservative Nature and you can expect a fantastic year ahead. Time for that second Mortgage! LMAO CHEERS Dead

I think my pick DIET is poised to win this competition......well in that it is poised to post the biggest %tage loss since the stock picking comp was introduced :o Hey Rams, maybe there should be a special prize for 'The Biggest Loser'

Hey Aussie...

I gave up on the idea of holding thru' earnings ever since a dismal (and literally a "trading career" altering) loss I took on INCX right about 1 yr. back. That was a huge slap in the face and a lesson to me (and to many many others as well).

Sorry about what happened with DIET...I guess you knew they were releasing earnings...but sadly, there was a lot of expectations from investors about DIET repeating a la NTRI. it did not happen and the investors bailed in droves...not just the traders, but I believe many who were in for the long haul bailed out too...it reminded me so much of the hit that INCX took last year.

you are being a good sport about the loss, so here's an applaud to you.

by the way, r u still holding ur position, or did ur stop loss help you?

cheers Aussie,
Vish'

Hey Vic,

Thanks for the comments. Don't worry about me I did have a position in DIET but was stopped out for an acceptable and controllable loss. I normally don't hold through earnings either, but sometimes I do when there is an upside potential to ride and I accept the risk reward gets a bit hairy (as I only do  it occassionally it does not materially affect my port if I am wrong).

However, I am more concerned about my apalling track record in the stock picking comp hence my self flagellation :D

An applaud for you though for your concern.

Cheers

Just curious, I see that nobody selected MCU for the stock Contest and though I tried and was refused I realize Calven had mentioned it here before I had but didn't even see him in the contest?  I think I'd be around sixth place had MCU been allowed.

Lucas Scott

MCU was a good one. It's an under-the-radar stock because the volume isn't crazy. Those are often the best stocks. Sux that you got disqualified because of the post rule. Oh well, you're ready for next month.
