Ouch, the Fourth Quarter report of loss sent the price down at open.  I sold and bought back at $4.00 when it rebounded.

Good news is the much anticipated clinical trial data review showed that RHEO process did improve the vision of "dry form" of macular degeneration.  Unfortunately, the timing of the quarterly report was untimely.  :P

OccuLogix Says Revised Trial Results Show Rheo Blindness Treatment Did Improve Vision
Thursday March 9, 1:25 pm ET

NEW YORK (AP) -- Canadian drug maker OccuLogix Inc. on Thursday said revised results from a recent study of its Rheo blindness treatment were better than originally thought, although regulators may require the company to do more testing.  More on link.

Still holding my breath on GZFX.

GZFX looking strong today.

Can anyone confirm the talk of a signed deal with TARGET to go along with Circuit City?

Other boards are discussing it.

Yes fill_the_gap, nice gain day for GZFX (dang, I had white knuckles  :D)

As to Target, I believe the issue was raised that if Circuit City went nationwide with GameZnFlix, that other store chains may consider joining in, but I believe it was only a theory.

GZFX gained $0.0012 (12.77%) with 197 mil shares traded, which is far greater than 3 month average of 35 mil shares.

As to RHEO, the morning recovery was followed by afternoon drop.

If MACD peaked, I may sell and buy more GZFX or GNBT on Monday.  GNBT MACD may be bottoming.

Hello LL

This thread is so useful and I am so impressed on your work. Keep up your good work.

Could you please tell me about SOFO based on your template?  I hope this will go up but the RSI is above 80+. ???

Thanks for the comments sivgeet.

Sonic Foundry makes a very popular audio recording/editing software called Sound Forge and many other digital media/internet software.

I am not sure if the recent PR had any affect on the recent price gains, but the PR was released on March 2nd, but the price gains were on 8-10th of March.
http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=sofo

The 4.5 million shares in volume Friday is very significant compared to the 3 month average of 201K shares and in just 3 days, MACD went from negative to very high positive.  This kind of stellar gains are usually due to some very positive news or anticipated PR.

As I posted before, when stock prices move based on such news, I recommend that you base your buy/sell decisions on daily volume and price activity and less on the technicals.  As we have seen on this MB on stocks like TGB, GNTA, GNBT, etc., stellar gains are often followed by profit taking sell offs.  Once the stock becomes more trendable (follows chart technicals), you can apply the stock trading template more accurately.

If the stock is bound for longer term gains, it will continue to gain after profit taking drop.  If you are looking for an entry point, this drop may be a good point.  Keep in mind also that on Friday, 52 week high of $1.40 was broken through without any resistance and 2 year high was $2.40.  Generally, there are some cautious sell offs as stocks approach their 52 week high point, and this stock breaking through the 52 week high without any resistance is something to consider.

If you are holding shares of SOFO, I recommend that you monitor the stock very closely next week for profit taking activity.  If you are looking to buy, I would recommend that you look for profit taking dip and buy on rebound.

= This is for newbies to stock trading = Chasing an actively gaining stock is very tempting.  If large gains are based on news, many will sell to take profit on their very short-term gains.  Yes, you may experience a short-term gain on such stocks, but I recommend that you "train and discipline" yourselves to study charts and buy stocks as MACD rebounds off negative and sell as MACD peaks on positive territory with supporting RSI and price activities.  I have found this to be the most accurate short/mid-term buy/sell indicators.

Remember also, that not all stocks are trendable to technicals all of the time and that use of the stock trading template should be a "guideline" only.  ;)

You are very welcome sivgeet.

If you are looking for an entry point on SOFO, I recommend that you wait for MACD to bottom (yes, even while MACD is in positive territory) with corresponding RSI and price bottoming.

Nice gain on RHEO today.  I am still on the fence with GZFX.

= Important Announcement =

I am starting my support for a new group of people who are brand new to stock trading, some of them as young as 15 years old and some of them 50+!

Due to this reason and many of your requests for a "brand newbie" intro to stock trading knowledge base posting, I will be focusing my posts for the near future more on the knowledge base than the daily trading posts.

This MB thread was created to support the newbies to stock trading and I may have deviated from that original intent.  I recently had some absolute newbies to stock trading who are interested in learning how to trade take a look at the swing trading MB content.  They were lost.

What I thought was a fairly straight forward and simple posting was greek to them and they could not understand or comprehend what all the charts and templates meant.  :P

So, I will start with the absolute basics like what is stock trading and how do you open a stock trading account, etc.  I will admit that I have failed to properly support the knowledge base I have started several months ago.  :(  This will give me a chance to completely revise the knowledge base and post the crucial information for the newbies to stock trading.  Also, this will continue to maintain the "public forum" concept of 3StocksOnFire, supporting new and traders seeking to be more effective through sharing knowledge and experience.

Having talked to the new group of people initially, I will be focusing more on the "basics" than the "fast and furious" mechanics of swing trading.  As I posted this weekend, I believe using the MACD bottom/peak cycle with corresponding RSI/price activity will be the core of the basics I will outline - this has helped me look for more longer-term stocks than the 1-3 day swing trading stocks.  :D

Many that have used the swing trading template reported success with their trades.  I feel that for now, this MB thread has achieved what we set out to do several month ago - continue to evolve and develop ways to trade more effectively.

While I take a "break" to write the knowledge base for this new group, I will continue to support any questions you may have regarding stock trading on this MB.  For this new group, I am actually putting together a "manual or handbook" which I will be posting at the knowledge base as chapters or lessons.  I will post the link as each chapter/lesson gets added at this MB.

The individuals in the group will start with $500-$1,000 to as much as $10,000 as base capital.  Most have expressed that they prefer the less aggressive mid-term swing trading (more than 1-3 days) than the short-term swing trading.  So, I will focus on stocks that are better suited for longer-term swing trading.

I can post pertinent discussions/Q&A's covered with the group and group's progress if you like on this MB.

My outline for this group is as follows:

1.  Intro to stock trading - What is stock trading?
2.  Basic knowledge - What do I need to know?
3.  Stock trading account - Which account type to open and how?
4.  When to buy - What is a good entry point?
5.  When to sell - What is a good sell/profit taking point?
6.  Practice - What is "virtual" practice trade account?
7.  Stock trading with real money - Let's swing trade!

Thanks for the comments YUNUS and nica33.  I will do my best to support the new group of newbies to stock training and 3SOF newbies on this MB.  :D

As to HEB, MACD is bottoming in the negative territory and RSI is rebounding off 50.  If MACD continues to rise to positive territory with corresponding RSI/price gain, it should continue gaining until RSI hits previous profit taking points (70-80) and until MACD peaks in positive territory.

If you are looking to buy, look for a dip on market open and hold until MACD turns positive and starts peaking to sell.

Hello LL,
I first read you on NVAX BB and followed you to this site. I started out  in October with a 10k investment in nvax at 3.26 per share and its now worth about 25k. I have bought and sold it twice. Sounds Great but I have no idea what I am actually doing. I do not really even know what a short really is, other than everyone seems to hate them. I think you are doing a wonderful service for Newbies and I would like to be counted among them. I look forward to your teaching. :) ;
