(Title of this thread is a bit date specific to Oct 2005.  Distribution event long over.)  Here's my post:

CBMX weekly chart, and NVAX too

I'll keep it simple. On weekly charts, I use the 10 week MA and 30 week MA. These are the MA that Weinstein uses. (Get his great book "Secrets for Profiting in Bull and Bear Markets" on amazon. Anyhow, Weinstein won't consider a stock for long entry until it is above its 30 week MA.)

CBMX 3 year weekly:
http://tinyurl.com/s8kzq

1. Notice how we broke above our 30 MA and how our 10 MA just had a bullish crossover on 30 MA. That crossover is very bullish signal, and review what happened to NVAX (chart at bottom of post) when a similiar set-up occured there. I circled it in purple. Both MA are pointing up. (Also see a daily chart, and how the 50 day MA is just about to crossover on the 200 day MA.)

2. TRENDLINES: That top trendline (orange lines) is our long term trendline, and that goes back to $21. You can see how it touches $8.75 back in early 2004. From $8.75 we've been in a downtrend to our recent HISTORIC lows. We've recently broke thru that downtrend line in 2nd week of March, and that is a very bullish signal. Again review what happened to NVAX (chart below) when it broke thru it's downtrend line in Oct. 2005.

When we get a significant PR, I believe we could challenge that top trendline now at $6.00. We're in the right place at the right time. The emergence of microarray-based diagnostics is going to be significant in 2006. And not only as a BF diagnostic play, but UNLIMITED applications in detection of all sorts of cancers. The emergence of this technology is awe-inspiring to me.

see: http://tinyurl.com/nlbhs

Until then $4.00 near-term seems a likely conservative target. If we can break-thru that top trendline now at $6.00, then next target is all-time high = $21. NVAX continued on to break through it's top trendline.

3. MACD: MACD positive, pointing up, just crossed the zero line. Very bullish. Circled in red. See what happened to NVAX when similiar set-up occured... not only similiar on the MACD, but other indicators setting up AT THE SAME TIME in similiar ways. That's the whole reason of why I'm posting the NVAX chart because of how CBMX's set-up now is similiar to when NVAX's MA crossed.

4. RSI: Just showing we have room to run. Compare to our run to $8.75, and compare to NVAX, and see how NVAX sustained a high RSI for 6 months. We're just getting started.

5. OBV: Our OBV has been trending upwards for 3 years. This is astounding, and I wonder if it implies that some really huge things are coming. NVAX's started trending up only when their run began, but ours has been strong all along. I'm really curious about this OBV trend.

Friday March 31, 6:01 am ET

http://biz.yahoo.com/bw/060331/20060331005119.html?.v=1

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 31, 2006--Acacia Research Corporation (NASDAQ:CBMX - News; NASDAQ:ACTG - News) announced today its CombiMatrix group's wholly-owned subsidiary, CombiMatrix Molecular Diagnostics (CMDX), has received certification to operate as a clinical laboratory in accordance with the federal government's Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act (CLIA), a regulatory program that monitors the quality of laboratory testing. According to CLIA, any laboratory in the U.S. that conducts testing on human specimens for purposes other than research must be certified.

"This is an important milestone for our company," said Matt Watson, CEO of CMDX. "Since opening our doors in May of 2005 we have been working diligently to establish a program of processes and procedures that would meet CLIA's strict quality control and quality assurance standards. Now that we have met those standards we are cleared to begin offering high quality clinical testing services at our state-of-the-art laboratory in Irvine, California."

Something significant is happening to CBMX right now. Volume tells what's coming ahead. It shows what big money is doing, and this interest moves the stock's price. Volume preceeds large movements in stocks.

This simple daily chart (link above) shows the dramatic increase in volume. The verticle lines correspond to PRs 1/04 thru 3/31. I was curious to see any relationship between PR and volume. The PRs are listed below. (Helpful for new investors) I need to split it into 2 posts.

CombiMatrix Publishes Influenza Paper in Collaboration with World Health Organization (WHO) Laboratory after Filing Key Patent Applications

Thursday April 6, 6:00 am ET

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 6, 2006--Acacia Research Corporation (Nasdaq:CBMX - News; Nasdaq:ACTG - News) announced today that its CombiMatrix group paper describing the Influenza Surveillance technology has been published in the April edition of the Journal of Clinical Microbiology. This journal publishes the most-current research on microbiological aspects and diagnosis of human and animal infections and electronic versions of scientific publications can been accessed online at http://jcm.asm.org/current.dtl. The paper is titled "Use of Semiconductor-Based Oligonucleotide Microarrays for Influenza A Virus Subtype Identification and Sequencing." This research was conducted in collaboration with the U.S. Air Force Institute of Operational Health and the group of Dr. Richard J. Webby at the Infectious Diseases department of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, chaired by Dr. Robert G. Webster.

CombiMatrix has previously applied for patents on its Influenza Surveillance technology. These patent applications were developed around and built upon CombiMatrix's microarray platform, processes, and instruments.

The CombiMatrix Influenza A Typing Microarray can identify all strains of Influenza A, including bird and human varieties. CombiMatrix's system, by tracking changes in genetic makeup of the virus, can differentiate highly pathogenic from less-lethal flu strains and can identify strains that may be resistant to drug therapy. In addition, this system can detect mixed or multiple infections of influenza. This has been identified as a critical issue for identifying infectious "carriers" of the disease, such as chickens that are able to infect others with the H5 virus but themselves have no symptoms. Information on such issues can be accessed at: http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/EID/vol12no01/05-1024.htm.

It appears to be at a bottom, but the only thing that concerns me is that the volume doesn't really confirm the price action.  It's not any greater than the previous few days where the stock went down in price.  I'd wait till we get more volume to confirm price action.  Then again, this could be a low-risk/high-reward play.  Put in a bid for $2.15, and if filled, a stop at 2.00 below support.

CombiMatrix and Prisma Expand Relationship in China, Taiwan, and Other Countries
Friday April 28, 6:00 am ET

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 28, 2006--Acacia Research Corporation (Nasdaq:CBMX - News; Nasdaq:ACTG - News) announced today that its CombiMatrix group has entered a distribution and manufacturing agreement with Prisma Biotech Corporation. In this relationship, Prisma will promote and sell CombiMatrix products in Taiwan, China, and various other countries and, using CombiMatrix CustomArray(TM) Synthesizers in the region, has the ability to synthesize content onto CombiMatrix CustomArrays and to sell those arrays to end customers.

One of the strengths of CombiMatrix's platform is its CustomArray Desktop Synthesizer. CombiMatrix is now establishing manufacturing and distribution relationships with regional companies to enable them to manufacture arrays onsite for their local markets. Such relationships benefit CombiMatrix by expanding the commercial market for its products without having to build additional infrastructure. In addition to sales of synthesizers to the partner, CombiMatrix will continue to sell blank CustomArrays, reagents, additional synthesizers, and equipment to the partner for its local customers. CombiMatrix's partner benefits by gaining access to state-of-the-art microarray technology, which can then be manufactured locally. Other major array manufacturers are not able to execute this business strategy since their manufacturing methods do not enable distributed manufacturing.

"We are very pleased to have Prisma join CombiMatrix's growing international promotion and sales network," said Dr. Amit Kumar, President and CEO of CombiMatrix. "They are an aggressive sales organization, looking to expand their technology base. CombiMatrix sees great opportunity in the areas they serve and sees a great fit with Prisma's expertise."

"Prisma has a great deal of experience especially in the prevalent spotted-array market in Taiwan and China," said Kevin Tseng, President & CEO of Prisma Biotech. "Since we see CombiMatrix's CustomArray technology as the next stage in technological evolution over that technology, we were very interested in the ability to make it available. Users here have been calling out for the next wave. Now that we have it, we begin our work to expand the market and to provide the customers with this new technology."

CBMX to test for bird flu

CombiMatrix to Collaborate with the Washington Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (WADDL) on USA's National Early Detection System for Avian Influenza

Tuesday May 2, 6:00 am ET
WADDL is One of Approximately 48 Labs in the U.S. That is Certified for Influenza Testing

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 2, 2006--Acacia Research Corporation (Nasdaq:CBMX - News; Nasdaq:ACTG - News) announced today that its CombiMatrix group will collaborate with the Washington Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (WADDL) on influenza testing. A broad interagency effort is being undertaken to monitor the Pacific Flyway, to determine if the seasonal migration of birds will bring the highly pathogenic Eurasian strain of Avian Influenza (AI: H5N1) into North America and the United States. This effort is being coordinated by the US Department of Agriculture, Department of the Interior, and the Department of Health and Human Services in collaboration with State regulatory agencies.

The Pacific Flyway includes Alaska, Western Canada, and the West Coast of the United States including Washington State. There is concern that the seasonal migration of birds will bring the pathogenic Eurasian H5N1 avian flu into this region of the world through the Pacific Flyway.

The current validated protocol for verification of a pathogenic influenza strain requires performing an initial PCR (polymerase chain reaction) to determine the existence of matrix protein gene, which is common to all Influenza A infections. If matrix protein is present, then a successive PCR for hemagglutinin is performed to determine if the H5 gene is also present. While this part of the procedure can be completed quickly, verification and further typing after a positive result requires that the sample be cultured and sequenced, necessitating roughly another week or more to complete. CombiMatrix's influenza monitoring system has shown in laboratory tests that it can confirm and type the infection in four hours. Our goal in this study is to demonstrate that our system produces quick virus typing results in the diagnostic laboratory environment that correlate to the standard protocol.

"Our Influenza Surveillance Technology has been validated in our laboratory in collaboration with the World Health Organization. We now seek to validate the system in the field in collaboration with WADDL," stated Dr. Amit Kumar, President and CEO of CombiMatrix Corporation. "We are pleased that two Washington State organizations can function together to address this potential animal and public health concern."

"We look forward to working with CombiMatrix to determine if their technology can enable more rapid typing of influenza viruses from animals," said Dr. Terry McElwain, DVM, Ph.D., Professor and Executive Director of WADDL, and Director of Animal Health Research Center at the College of Veterinary Medicine, Washington State University. "While official verification of a highly pathogenic strain of influenza will require virus isolation initially, completing a test that can type the virus in four hours would be a significant advance over the conventional approach in monitoring spread of infection once an outbreak has been confirmed."

ABOUT WADDL

The Washington Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (WADDL) is a publicly supported laboratory located in the College of Veterinary Medicine at Washington State University. With two locations in Pullman and Puyallup, the WADDL provides disease surveillance in animal, food, and environmental samples. WADDL was one of the 12 founding members of the National Animal Health Laboratory Network, and routinely performs diagnostic assays to detect disease agents such as avian influenza and BSE.

CombiMatrix Molecular Diagnostics Announces the Launch of Powerful New Melanoma Test
Friday November 10, 6:00 am ET

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Acacia Research Corporation (Nasdaq:CBMX - News; Nasdaq:ACTG - News) announced today that its CombiMatrix group's subsidiary, CombiMatrix Molecular Diagnostics, Inc. (CMDX) has launched a new test that discriminates malignant melanoma from benign moles. The test, based on CombiMatrix Corporation's CustomArray® platform, is a powerful new molecular diagnostic tool that enables pathologists to resolve difficult-to-diagnose cases through an objective genetic analysis.

This test will be introduced to the melanoma community at the 10th Anniversary Benefit of the William S. Graham Foundation for Melanoma Research, Inc. being held in San Francisco on November 11, 2006. CombiMatrix is the corporate sponsor for this event and a corporate sponsor for the organization. More information is available at http://www.bfmelanoma.com/gala06.html.

"This exciting new test represents a breakthrough in the field of dermatology," said Dr. Scott Binder, M.D., Professor of Clinical Pathology and Dermatology, Chief of Dermatopathology, and Senior Vice Chairman at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. "As a dermatopathologist I am often called upon to make very difficult decisions regarding whether or not a patient has malignant melanoma, particularly after traditional laboratory methods have failed to provide a clear diagnosis. This test from CombiMatrix Molecular Diagnostics provides me with a powerful new tool to help resolve many of these tough cases."

"Melanoma is the fastest growing cancer in the United States, and like most cancers early identification and detection is an important factor in survival. We are encouraged that this new test is now available to physicians and patients in our battle against this often fatal disease," said Karen Graham, the Founder and Chairperson of the William S. Graham Foundation for Melanoma Research. "I founded the William S. Graham Foundation in honor of my son, Billy, who died as a result of the mis-diagnosis of melanoma. Had this test been available then, the outcome might have been different."

"We are very excited about the release of this powerful new diagnostic service," said Matt Watson, CEO of CombiMatrix Molecular Diagnostics. "This is the second microarray service that we have launched in as many calendar quarters, and it is only the first in a broad menu of array-based cancer tests that we hope to release in the near future."

"We have now launched a test based on our Bacterial Artificial Chromosome Platform (see http://www.combimatrix.com/pr/090506.pdf) and a test based on our CustomArray-brand oligomer-based microarray platform," stated Dr. Amit Kumar, President and CEO of CombiMatrix and Chairman of CombiMatrix Molecular Diagnostics. "To our knowledge, we are the only company that has both of these capabilities."
