Buffalo Wild Wings, Inc. Announces First Quarter 2006 Results
Tuesday April 25, 4:01 pm ET
Earnings Per Diluted Share Increase of 43% to $0.40

MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 25, 2006--Buffalo Wild Wings, Inc. (Nasdaq:BWLD - News), announced today financial results for the first quarter ended March 26, 2006. Highlights for the first quarter versus the same period a year ago were:
Total revenue increased 26.5% to $64.3 million
Company-owned restaurant sales grew 26.7% to $57.1 million
Same-store sales increased 7.7% at company-owned restaurants and 6.7% at franchised restaurants
Earnings per diluted share increased 43% to $0.40 from $0.28
Sally Smith, President and Chief Executive Officer, commented, "We're off to a great start in 2006. Our revenue growth of 26.5% was driven by same-store sales of 7.7% for company-owned and 6.7% for franchised restaurants, as well as stronger new unit performance. This growth, combined with strong operating results, translated into earnings per diluted share of $0.40 in the first quarter, a 43% increase over prior year."

Total revenue, which includes company-owned restaurant sales and franchise royalties and fees, increased 26.5% to $64.3 million in the first quarter compared to $50.8 million in the first quarter of 2005. Company-owned restaurant sales for the quarter increased 26.7% to $57.1 million driven by a company-owned same-store sales increase of 7.7% and 18 more company-owned restaurants in operation at the end of first quarter 2006 relative to the same period in 2005. Franchise royalties and fees increased 25.3% to $7.2 million versus $5.7 million in the prior year. This increase was due to a franchised same-store sales increase of 6.7% and 48 more franchised restaurants at the end of the period versus a year ago.

Average weekly sales for company-owned restaurants were $35,857 for the first quarter of 2006 compared to $33,195 for the same quarter last year, an 8.0% increase. Franchised restaurants averaged $44,342 for the period versus $41,309 in the first quarter a year ago, a 7.3% increase.

For the first quarter, earnings per diluted share were $0.40, as compared to first quarter 2005 earnings per diluted share of $0.28.

Second Quarter 2006 Outlook

For the second quarter ending June 25, 2006, we expect total revenue of approximately $59 to $60 million, based on estimated same-store sales increases of 4 to 6% for company-owned and 3 to 5% for franchised restaurants, as well as the addition of five company-owned and twelve franchised restaurants. Earnings per diluted share for the second quarter are expected to range from $0.25 to $0.28. This is based on the previously-mentioned revenue assumptions, average chicken wing prices for the second quarter of $1.10 per pound, preopening costs of $1 million, and stock-based compensation expense of $700,000. Diluted weighted average shares outstanding are estimated at 8.8 million.

"In the second quarter, our focus is on continuing both same-store sales momentum and operational improvements over the prior year," commented Ms. Smith. "In the first quarter, we introduced our new menu, four new sauces, a new rib product, and our new Crave It! Combos(TM). We believe these exciting new choices, combined with our attention to hospitality and guest satisfaction, will drive revenue growth." Ms. Smith concluded, "We are committed to translating our revenue growth into strong bottom-line results

Buffalo Wild Wings Soars to Year High
Wednesday October 25, 10:43 am ET
Buffalo Wild Wings Shares Rise to New Year High on Strong 3Q Earnings, Analyst Upgrade

NEW YORK (AP) -- Shares of Buffalo Wild Wings Inc. surged to a 52-week high on Wednesday, a day after the casual-dining restaurant chain posted third-quarter earnings and same-store sales as fiery as its hot sauce, prompting an analyst to upgrade the stock.

After the market closed on Wednesday, the Minneapolis company said third-quarter income jumped 88 percent to $3.5 million, or 40 cents a share. Revenue climbed 32 percent to $68.3 million.

Analysts polled by Thomson Financial had been expecting a profit of 31 cents per share.

Also in the quarter, same-store sales -- or sales in stores open at least one year, a widely used industry gauge of performance -- surged 11.8 percent at company-owned stores and 6.4 percent at franchised stores.

It was a "quarter to crow about," said RBC Capital Markets analyst Larry Miller in a research note on Wednesday.

He praised the company's same-store sales, which he expects to stay strong into 2007. He also noted the company affirmed its long-term unit growth of 15 percent, revenue growth of 20 percent and earnings growth of 25 percent.

"We think Buffalo Wild Wings' share offer a compelling relative value in a space where we see very little currently," he wrote, upgrading the company to "Outperform" from "Sector Perform."

He also raised his price target to $55 from $40, and his fourth-quarter earnings-per-share estimate to 49 cents from 41 cents. He lifted his 2006 earnings-per-share projection to $1.60 from $1.42, and his 2007 estimate to $1.99 from $1.77.

Jefferies & Co. analyst Donald Trott affirmed his "Buy" rating and also raised his price target to $57 from $44.

"Buffalo Wild Wings' improved company-operated restaurant margins, aggressive unit expansion, (and) national advertising are all powering rapid growth of the nation's leading chain of casual dining/sports bars," he wrote in a note on Wednesday.

Buffalo Wild shares soared, climbing $8.60, or 20.8 percent, to $49.90 during morning trading on the Nasdaq. Earlier in the session, the stock climbed to $50.43, eclipsing a previous 52-week high of $44.18 set in May.

You had this called pretty well Terliso, what tipped you off to this company?  I hadnt heard of it until Cramer talked about it the other night.

Fous, are you from Eugene?  I drove through there once.  Hard to forget it cause I saw a sign proclaiming it as "The Grass Seed Capital of the World".  I had lunch near there on the interstate at a Dennys.  Pretty scenery, really wide open plains and blue skies the day I drove through  :)

Update 1-Buffalo Wild Wings Q4 earnings soar, backs '07 view

Feb 15 (Reuters) - Restaurant chain Buffalo Wild Wings Inc. (BWLD.O: Quote, Profile , Research) reported fourth-quarter earnings well ahead of Wall Street expectations, on strong comparable sales growth and an improved gross profit margin.

Shares of the company were up over 9.5 percent in late electronic trade, after closing at $49.98 on the Nasdaq Thursday.

"Same-store sales trends continued strong throughout the quarter, at 13.2 percent for company-owned and 6.5 percent for franchised restaurants," Chief Executive Sally Smith said in a statement.

The company also reported that total costs as a percentage of sales fell to 89.7 percent in the latest fourth quarter compared with 93.6 percent in the same period a year ago.

In its earnings call, the Minneapolis-based company also affirmed its expectations for 2007 earnings to grow by 25 percent. It said it was targeting earnings per share of $2.11.

According to Reuters Estimates, analysts on average expect the company to earn $1.94 a share, excluding items, in the period. For the fourth quarter, the operator of Buffalo Wild Wings Grill and Bar restaurants earned 77 cents a share compared with 30 cents a share a year earlier, while revenue grew 41.3 percent to $83.3 million.

Analysts were expecting it to earn 53 cents on revenue of $80.5 million. (Reporting by Savitha Kalyanaraman in Bangalore)

Blazing Hot Results at Buffalo Wild Wings

Shares of hot-wings purveyor and sports-bar operator Buffalo Wild Wings (Nasdaq: BWLD) are as red-hot as some of its sauces, having almost doubled since the lows they reached last summer. Even with the run-up, if growth continues the way the company is proposing, share performance will keep sizzling.

B-dubs, as the company is also known, reported fourth-quarter and year-end 2006 results yesterday after the market close. It's hard to find results as impressive as the fourth quarter's -- sales improved 41.3% and same-store sales at company-owned stores grew 13.2%. Franchised comps grew a mortal 6.5%, but the combination of an extra week during the quarter and favorable cost trends contributed to a 157% growth in diluted earnings.

Results for the year were also impressive. Total sales grew 33%, and diluted earnings advanced nearly 82%. Even better, B-dubs is generating enough internal capital to fund projected 15% unit growth over the next three years. It also expects 20% sales and 25% earnings growth over the same time frame. Only a handful of other food chains, such as P.F. Chang's (Nasdaq: PFCB), Kona Grill (Nasdaq: KONA), and Sonic (Nasdaq: SONC), are capable of matching that type of growth, but none compete in the currently popular chicken-wing-and-sports-bar realm.

At close to 30 times trailing earnings, Buffalo Wild Wings' stock is now being priced as if its stellar growth prospects are a forgone conclusion. Based on market capitalization, the company still qualifies as a small-cap stock, and a low store count means it has plenty of room to expand. I wouldn't count on results as strong as those just posted, and there will undoubtedly be speed bumps along the way, but the future still looks bright for B-dubs.
