I've used Etrade since I started playing with the markets last summer. Their Power Etrade gives me nice realtime charts but aren't very flexible and there aren't many tools to use for screenings. A friend of mine uses Tradestation and it appears to be the nicest software ever made for trading, but my portfolio's not quite large enough for me to move over to them.

I was curious to know what tools people here use to pick and track their stocks. Preferably inexpensive, and perhaps some free ones.

Thanks in advance.

I really like qcharts from Quote.com.  They are live, moving charts, and you can view OTC BB and Pinks on them.  You can instantly choose the time frame you want to see, so you can see what has happened for the last year, six months, month, etc.  You can view hot lists of your choice (% up, down) which tells you which stocks are currently jumping.  You can upgrade to their top version and get streaming news.  There are all kinds of live studies available.  I use MACD mainly.  You can also make quote sheets with all your positions, and can watch in real time how each one is doing.  When you click on the symbol, you will see the live chart.  It's not free, but worth the money in my opinion.

Good luck and happy 4th!
