Companhia Vale Do Rio Doce Posts Higher Q3 Net Earnings As Revenues Increase - Update [RIO]

11/8/2006 8:06:26 PM Wednesday, Companhia Vale do Rio Doce (RIO), a metals and mining company, announced third quarter earnings that rose year-over-year on higher sales.

The Rio de Janeiro, Brazil headquartered company said net earnings, for the third quarter of 2006 rose 44.6% to US$ 1.9 billion, or US$ 0.79 per share compared to the third quarter of 2005. On average, 4 analysts surveyed by First Call/Thomson Financial expected the company to earn $0.68 per share for the quarter. The company said operational profit as measured by adjusted earnings before interest and taxes reached US$ 2.2 billion, a 60% increase over third quarter 2005. Cash flow as measured by adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization was US$ 2.7 billion, nearly US$1 billion higher than in third quarter of 2005.

The company said gross revenue for the third quarter of 2006 amounted to US$ 5.1 billion, 17.5% above the US$ 4.3 billion in second quarter of 2006. 3 analysts had a revenue consensus opinion of $4.64 billion for the quarter.

The company said that the Brucutu project, an asset with nominal iron ore production capacity of 30 Mtpy, started operating in third quarter 2006. Simultaneously, the expansion of Carajas iron ore capacity to 85 Mtpy came on stream. Sales volume records in iron ore and pellets 73.4 million tons and potash 291 thousand tons.

The company said in the first nine months of 2006 net earnings totaled US$ 5.0 billion, or US$ 2.04 per share. Operational profit as measured by adjusted earnings before interest and taxes reached US$ 5.5 billion for the first nine months of this year. Revenue between January and September 2006 was US$ 12.9 billion, a 33.2% increase over the same period last year.

Quarterly revenues rose 61% to $194.6 million from $120.8 million in the prior year quarter. The substantial year-over-year increase in revenue was driven primarily by acquisitions completed and new equipment added over the course of the year. Analysts had revenue consensus estimate of $197.07 million for the quarter.

AMCC has 170,000 shares traded so far on pre-market with high @3.41 and low @3.20 I'm hoping to see 3.60 for a sell target ,,if not I'll be looking to sell @ 3.40.

AMCC didn't spike up as I was hoping but still had a good trading day with above ADV. Still holding and playing the channel that I originaly planed when I first bought

Was upgraded to outperform today and caused a jump if you decide to enter wait for pullback from spike caused by upgrade, Find most recent support for entry when hit

My pre-market order didn't get filled and seeing how it didn't break above top of trend line it might come back down to bottom of trend line and will enter when that happen's. For now I'll keep an eye on it and be looking for another to enter
