I am getting ready to short again soon, I think the market is going to recorrect soon. Was curious what short picks people were eying... Sectors you think that are bearish? Also what indicators do you use for finding a good short?

Some stocks that I have been watching for short entry; PHM, CTX, AKAM, C, BAC

Nice I like ACOR... Looking at the chart it looks like its set to go down alot.

Do you think the housing sector will turn bearish again soon?  It just had a nice run-up recently on good news.  But if that's the case, my favorite stock is RYL.  It's the only stock I've traded more than once (other than the Q's), and made a profit both times on put options.  I made almost $3000 profit on 100 put contracts on the Q's last Monday.

For bearish entries, I look for any of the following:
1) Breaking and closing below a moving average commonly used as support
2) Divergence on MACD or RSI
3) DMI- crossing above DMI+
4) Breaking the lower bollinger band with both bands spreading apart
5) Bearish candle patterns in an uptrend (bearish engulfing, shooting star, evening star)

I did a little charting on ACOR with what indicators I use mainly.

Nullzero,I think this makes for a very nice topic here.
I applaud you for the start of "seeking to short" and what
you believe the market is going to do soon (recorrect)
A nice thread to get running........... ;)
I'm going to place BRLC in your subject of shorts.

Nice pick Setravis... I was glancing at BRLC it looks like a perfect short tomorrow in the morning if it gaps up. Gap up... Insider Selling, stock already over extended. All good reasons to short.

GM seems already on the oversold side and who knows they may turn things around, from personal opinion I like GMs line up they got some nice cars doing very well. However I think (F)- Ford Motors is in for trouble and can face bankrupcy very soon, they have put everything on the line to barrow tons of money to keep them a float and reorganization.

INTC
Short if.....price breaks below the 50-day MA.
It is also showing a weakening momentum as we can see MACD & CCI.

I shorted BRLC near 9 early today and got squeezed out with a 3% stop loss :(. I am eagerly waiting for BRLC to slow down before reshorting. I think BRLC can give some big and fast short gains if its shorted at the right time.

Nullzero look at GIGM too. The company may be good but the whole online gaming sector got hurt because of the new gaming legislation and today it looked so week.
Also, David made some good analysis too.

Hi     against my better judgement ( because the market keeps going up ) I put a short on plce right after they had a big day this week. My reasoning is this , the rotation is starting to come out of retail because the fed is on neutral , and they are mushrooming if thats even a word   lol . Any way so far its a good trade and should keep on a sliding. But im always wary when the market is going up to try to short a stock. Just seems a lot easier to go with the flow .   ( of course this is an opinion )  Tony G

Hi all

Not sure where to put this but will try here for now, just bouncing something around that I've been considering.  Not quite sure how to play it but would probably need options to get some leverage so entry is critical.

Any body looking at Microsoft,  Ya I know big old boring mega large Cap, but hear me out.  Not usually much movement as a stock on the long or short side and on the short I would rather play an index or QID type for reduced risk, rather than a single stock, although this one doesn't move at light speed.

But they were very low last year ($20), then had the big run up into the new Vista hype thing, ($31).  Started to roll over with the markets, currently bouncing off the 200 MA and some old support.  Looking rather week.

However my biggest interest is all the computer groups I deal with are not upgrading to Vista, and any one I know personally is not happy and it did not go well.  Now I'm reading that many I think most major industries and gov depts and just today read Intel, are all not upgrading to Vista until at least the SP1 fix update, which will be who knows when.   Some have been saying there are specific reason not to upgrade, ie all the new security loop holes, when it was supposed to have better security and the numerous compatibility problems with existing programs.

Maybe you thing they just don't want to pay the money, but most of these large firms pay annual fees for unlimited site licenses, so I don't think cost is the reason.  Its performance and security and incompatibility.  Also I'm seeing increased resistance to Microsoft products in the major computer user groups on the internet, I look at things like the states on browser hits and there is a significant switch to Firefox, Monzilla, and others.  Mail everyone is going away form Outlook (security problems).

So bottom line I think Microsoft is in trouble and has little upside and lots of downside.  Now I don't think it ripe for shorting right now, but I'm going to take a look at possible set-ups and also whether puts might be the way to play it sometime in the near future.

Just another idea.
