NEW YORK, June 13, 2005 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- SIRIUS Satellite Radio (SIRI, Trade) today announced that it has developed a new, advanced proprietary technology that will initially increase the company's total network capacity by approximately 25% within its existing digital transmission system. The technology, known in the industry as hierarchical modulation, will allow SIRIUS to offer additional audio channels, as well as advanced services such as data and video, without affecting the quality of its broadcasts.

"Our new modulation technology will use a very innovative approach to increase the number of bits we transmit through our satellite and terrestrial repeater networks, enabling us to increase the effective use of our currently licensed spectrum to add additional programming for the benefit of our subscribers," said Jim Meyer, SIRIUS President, Sales and Operations. "Sirius will continue to deliver uncompromised sound quality, and with this new technology we will retain the flexibility to expand our broadcasts even further in the future."

The technology, developed by SIRIUS' Advanced Development Team based in Lawrenceville, NJ, will work over SIRIUS' current network, with minimal upgrades to its satellite uplink and terrestrial repeater infrastructure. SIRIUS has already conducted several tests of the technology to confirm the performance.

The new modulation technology will not impact the customer experience of existing SIRIUS radios sold or currently on the market. Future SIRIUS radios will be outfitted with the new technology, making it possible for them to receive the additional services planned.

Was expected to correct from last December's high of $9.43 and went as low as 4.36 in April, but has been steadily gaining in price since that low (presentlysently 6.60 in pre-market). Howard Stern is coming in January and subscription numbers are staying ahead of forecasts. That's the good news.
The bad news is that this company has over 2 Billion shares out, is riddled with debt and cannot stop finding new ways to create more. Apollo Group owns several stock warrants they can cash in at any time.

The volume has been building and could add $3-4 before Stern Arrival, but it has it's risk ( ie: reverse split).

Nice day for SIRI.  This should make a good run to the end of the year.  Lots of near term specualtion for Howard Stern starting early.  It would be nice to see some strong sub #s for the qtr. to support the move!

NEW YORK, July 1 (Reuters) - XM Satellite Radio Holdings Inc. (XMSR,Trade) on Friday said it added 640,000 subscribers in the second quarter and now has more than 4.4 million in total.

Washington, D.C.-based XM, No. 1 ahead of rival Sirius Satellite Radio (SIRI,Trade) as a provider of nationwide talk, news and music stations, has previously said it expects to reach 5.5 million customers by the end of the year.

XM ended 2004 with about 3.2 million subscribers. Sirius, which launched its service about a year after XM's, ended the first quarter with 1.45 million and expects to reach 2.7 million this year.

So does a 6 month island suggest a big advance in the stock price is in order or is it the reverse head and shoulder that suggests it?

Thanks.  I've been trading for so long, I can't remember.     Since back when we didn't have computers, and you had to calculate the exponential moving averages of the MACD by hand for each chart that you were looking at, and you had to draw the open, high, low and close for each stock on graph paper.  Tedious work

BOTH suggest that the chart is bullish.  SIRI could go back and re-test the Inverse H&S breakout near 6.08 and still be bullish, but I view it as more bullish if Friday's gap doesn't get filled, and if the six-month Bullish Island Reversal reversal remains on the chart. 

All of the people who bought the stock over the past six months are sitting on that "island" holding a winner, and they are very comfortable in their long postion because the "ship has left port," so to speak, with that gap higher on Friday, and there's now no chance to buy the stock back at "island prices,"  as the chart stands.

That's why I say that it's more bullish if the gap doesn't get filled.  If we go back to "island prices," (fill the gap) it's not as bullish because "the ship has come back to port", allowing others to buy "at island prices."  The people on the island won't be quite as comfortable in their long postition as they were this weekend if "just anybody is allowed to buy SIRI at island prices." 

The price that they paid for the stock won't look like as much of a bargain as it does right now

What a beautiful analogy you have created with the island!  Brings my mind back to a few cruises I've been on.  The psychology behind what you describe is interesting.

As I mentioned I didn't pick up the H & S pattern and what I see is what is the completion of a cup and am waiting to see if the handle is going to form.  A bit presumptuous on my part since a handle hasn't even begun to form.  I figure that the pop on Friday was due to the Motley article (or maybe Setravis )and that the stock would retrace a bit once it hit the Resistance at the gap it's closing right now.  Either way, I agree that the bulls are in control of the stock right now and hope this has a nice pay off by the end of the year.  Thx again.
