Changed my view on the markets and trading. After getting bunred in HOM a while back I stayed away from smaller cap stocks however just recently I decided to get back in more of them. Espically after having a dull and slow year in 2006. After David and the rest of the crew here at 3stocks started the new 3 stocks on fire portfolio I decided to get back in. Following fast analysis and picks from david my porfolio has seen a nice return in just 5 trading days.

Current Holdings:

CPNE 4900shrs bought at 2.11
GOAM 1200shrs bought at 8.56
SILC 650shrs bought at 13.25
SPPI 1400shrs bought at 6.07
TGX 2000shrs bought at 4.78

All stocks are in green by an average of 4% :).

OMCL trend is definitely bullish, balance sheets looks good, revenue has been growing year over year, no long term-debt.. I think OMCL is good for long-term investment. ;)

BTW, you are making a killing in CPNE ;)

nullzero

Hell yeah making a killing on CPNE we can thank David on that. You riding the upward movement on CPNE?

Hi folks,

I sincerely apologize to you guys if I'm posting this in the wrong spot, but it's the best I could find to ask for help...

I'm just getting started. I just deposited $51k ($1k for fees) in a Scottrade acct. today that's available immediately and signed up for 3SOF premium service this evening. I'm interested in getting fully invested in the Main Portfolio as soon as possible....The way I see it, it's $3,350 (6.66%) in each of the 15 Main Portfolio Stocks....

How do I jump in? The buy in levels ($$) were in many cases lower. Should I still just place my online order with Scottrade for $3350 worth of each of the 15 stocks in the Main Portfolio? I've got to start somewhere, yes?

Please advise this neophyte... Any direction would be very much appreciated!

Thanks,

Justin

First off how experience are you with trading and stocks? I still consider myself a novice  :P, I started in july of 2005 and still have lots to learn to even get close to becoming a good trader and managing a successful personal portfolio. Dont jump put both feet in the water until you know what your doing or you can potentially loose a lot of money. I have learned the hard way from many mistakes in the past, and im continuing trying to improve myself.

Do you have a margin account? This is important if you need to close or enter a position and not wait for the money settlement. Another problem is a lot of the trades in the main portfolio are already sitting on gains or even some losses. Its very hard to keep up with the same performance if you are not near the buy in points of the portfolio. What I would do is look through the stocks and buy in on the stocks within a 5% + or - of the portfolio buy in point, or if David feels XYZ stock had a pullback or is at a good price to add in. Also read up on Davids analysis to determine where the portfolio is on the trade. For example you may buy XYZ stock and find out that the portfolio just closed the position while you bought in.

Hi Justin -

The best thing to do would be to post in the Members Corner on the Premium part of the website, or just drop David Randolph a line.  I know he'd be MORE than happy to personally respond to you.  Just send him a private message and tell him you just signed up and what you posted earlier.  I'm pretty sure that he'll totally agree with your strategy - and see what he says, but I don't think you should worry a bit about what the price of the stock is now compared to where he picked it up.  He wouldn't be holding it if he didn't think it would be going higher.

Remember this is for the most part a long term portfolio - your entry price is virtually meaningless.  Because David updates his analysis everyday, the time to sell will be when fundamentals change, and he'll be sure to let you know.

Welcome to 3Stocks!

Thank you very much Nullzero....I have no experience, but I want to learn everything I can...That is why I look at emulating the main portfolio here as a solid way to jump in...I am going to follow your advice and look for the + or - 5% buy in point as well as follow David's advice on good buys and gaging the stage of portfolio stocks. Thank you for this tip.

Derek, I will go to Members Corner for more advice...Thanks. I've dropped David a line already as well. That's kind of what I figure-- "...He wouldn't be holding if he didn't think it would go higher..." I've got to start somewhere-- I'm to terms with not realizing all the profits of the initial buy in point. Thanks for your welcome.

When I master this more, I hope I will be able to contribute some valuable information that serves you both!

Warm Regards, Justin.

Np good luck with trading :) may the profits be with you.

Anyway time for an update.

BOUGHT 1500shrs RDCM @ 3.18

SOLD 1500shrs RDCM @3.0  Played this play in the 3 stocks on fire portfolio unfortantely I got in to late and got out to late  :(. I got a -5.6% loss on this one  :'(, However I only played half a position in it.

BOUGHT 4200shrs PFSW @ 1.12 (bought half a position in it)  ;) going good so far on this one.

Current Holdings:
CPNE 6900shrs  (54% of total portfolio)
ETLT 12000shrs (31% of total portfolio)
PFSW 4200shrs (13% of total portfolio)

CPNE and ETLT hold most of the wieght in the direction of the portfolio. Added extra to CPNE due to continued strength it was showing since my original entry.

SOLD 4200shrs PFSW @ 1.075 (lost little over 4% on this trade :(. )

I didnt like the weakness PFSW was still showing and average volume today, so I decided to cut my position as a loss.

BOUGHT 1800shrs BLUE @ 2.47

Super high volume on this one almost its entire float has been traded today. Fundamentals look solid, stocks 52wk high was 6.80. This looks like a solid turn around play big money wants in.

Watching ETLT closely, This is the next stock to close on position. Up between 8-10% on ETLT since position was open (I want to close this trade while I still have some gains, so hopefully we see a turn around.)

Current Holdings:

CPNE 6900shrs
ETLT 12000shrs
BLUE 1800shrs

Getting killed on BLUE today and near the close of yesterday. Since its a half position I will let it run for another  few days and cut my loss if things dont turn around and it goes below 2. I was wrong assuming there would be a follow through today with the high volume and upward movement yesterday. Positive thing you could say about BLUE is it hasnt borken down below 2.00 today yet  :-[. The strong breakout above the 50dma on very high volume wasnt a mistake... someone wants in.

nullzero

Closed my BULE position

SOLD 1800shrs BLUE @2.15 (loss -%12.9, I broke my rule of 10% loss limit for short term trade. Next I stick with it  :(, this was about a $4k position and was speculative to start.

SOLD 12000shrs ETLT @ .86 (gain over 6.5%, ETLT not much action last couple days wanted to take some profit and put it into something else.

SOLD SHORT 1500shrs TOA @ 10 (Homebuilder stock with lots of problems rebounded nicely last 3 months was trading in the 6s... and now the 10s. Fundamentals are not getting better and company has lawsuits against it.)

BOUGHT 1500shrs CPNE @ 2.84 (added to my core position, averaging up on this one.)

Current Holdings:

CPNE 8400shrs @ 2.399 average
TOA (SHORT) 1500shrs @ 10.00
