Shares of digital camera sensor maker Omnivision Technologies (OVTI) are up $1.58, or 5.5%, at $29.85 in late trading after the company beat fiscal Q2 revenue and earnings projections and forecast Q3 above estimates.

Revenue of $239.5 million was up 31%, year over year, in the three months ended in October, the company reported, yielding EPS of 58 cents, excluding some costs. Analysts had been expecting $232 million and 53 cents.

Gross profit jumped to 28% in Q2, the company said, from 26.9% in a year earlier and 24% in Q1, reflecting improved yields in the company's sensor products, it said.

For Q3, Omnivision forecast $230 million to $250 million in revenue, and non-GAAP net income per share of 50 cents to 63 cents per share. Analysts have been looking for $210 million and 41 cents.
