Cup with a handle forming, maybe positioning for next move up.

saffeysite1

This company makes large Flat panel tv's.  Small co. may have some deals working with big retailors to get their tv's in (ie. Best Buy).  This is pure Speculation, but today's volume says something.  Low float, move fast.

Syntax-Brillian Shares Up on 3Q Earnings
Friday November 3, 11:32 am ET
Shares of Syntax-Brillian Rise As Third-Quarter Earnings Beat Wall Street Forecasts

NEW YORK (AP) -- Shares of Syntax-Brillian Corp. hit a new 52-week high in morning trading Friday, a day after the Tempe, Ariz.-based maker of high-definition televisions beat Wall Street forecasts for third-quarter revenue and earnings.

Syntax-Brillian shares made it as high as $7.95, before sliding back to $7.82, up $1.56, or 25 percent, on the Nasdaq. The previous 52-week high was $6.58.

Revenue in the third quarter more than tripled from the third quarter of 2005 as Syntax Groups Corp. added the operations of Brillian Corp. after their November 2005 merger.

Earnings of 7 cents per share widely beat Wall Street forecasts for per-share profit of a penny.

CIBC World Markets analyst Daniel M. Gelbtuch upgraded Syntax-Brillian to "Sector Outperformer" from "Sector Performer," with a price target of $10.

Gelbtuch said the company is picking up business from major retailers like Circuit City Stores Inc. and is poised to penetrate the European market with the acquisition of Vivitar.

Baird analyst Tristan Gerra said margins are improving because of growing consumer preference for large-screen televisions.

Volume Spikes: RTEC BRLC NBIX LIOX
Friday November 3, 3:03 pm ET
Rudolph Technologies Volume Soars After Earnings, Guidance Miss Wall Street Expectations

NEW YORK (AP) -- The following companies showed unusually heavy volume in trading Friday on the Nasdaq around 2 p.m. Higher-than-normal volume can indicate increased activity by institutions such as mutual funds and insurance companies. Upward stock movement on such volume can show increased confidence among investors, while selling can signal further downward pressure on a stock.

Rudolph Technologies Inc., which makes equipment for semiconductor manufacturers, saw its volume spike after the company reported a higher third-quarter profit, but missed Wall Street expectations. The company also offered fourth-quarter earnings guidance below the analyst consensus.

1. Introduction

Oh, I miss saffeysite1, what a wonderful trader he is. I just wrote him a private message to see if I get him back to writing on 3 Stocks on Fire. The man was in BRLC @$3  :) (well, then the stock went up to $6 plus, back to $2.5 and now almost $8 - amazing volatility).

This analysis is part of my daily study of three different stocks. I hope you enjoy  :)

2. Profile

Syntax-Brillian Corporation (BRLC) (www.syntaxbrillian.com) is one of the world's leading manufacturers and marketers of LCD and LCoS(TM) HDTVs and digital entertainment products. The company's lead products include its Olevia brand (www.olevia.com) of widescreen HDTV-ready and HD-built-in LCD TVs -- one of the fastest growing global TV brands -- and its next-generation Gen II LCoS(TM) 720p and 1080p rear-projection HDTVs for the high-end video/audio market. Syntax-Brillian's global supply chain, Asian operations, and North American sales channels position the company as a market leader in consumer and high-end HDTVs and digital entertainment products.

3. Technical Analysis
3.1. All History Chart

Nothing special on this all history chart for BRLC. The stock price is below its IPO price back in 2003.

3.2. Medium Term Chart

Jesus, this stock is up 300% in just 4 months :o. What a catch. It looks very overbought now, but who cares about that? It was overbought already at $6. Huge gap on the beginning of November, we'll get to that in a moment.

3.3. Short Term Chart

There's no doubt the trend is bullish. I really have to read the 3rd quarter numbers and put them into historical context to get a better feeling if the stock will continue to push higher or just correct to the ascending trendline.

4. Fundamental Analysis
4.1. Number of Shares Outstanding

Ouch, big dilution started on 4Q 2005. The number of shares issued and outstanding rose from 7 million in 3Q 2005 to the current 51,446,695. This alone makes the market cap grow seven fold without any share price appreciation. This happened because of a merger between
BRLC and Syntax, as you'll see below. Anyway, the share count has been rising rapidly over the last 3 quarters.

The current market cap is 51,446,695*$7.66 = $394.1 M.

4.2. Liquidity

These $27 M in working capital on the balance sheet mask a not so pretty reality. Check the inventory build up:

Green are inventories and blue are accounts receivable. As you see there was a build up in inventories in this latest quarter. Also, receivables are growing rapidly. The current ratio, which is current assets/current liabilities = 1.24, which is below the 2 minimum threshold level. But if we subtract from this the inventories and receivables the number gets a lot worse. But probably the inventory build up is the company preparing for the Christmas season.

4.3. Revenues

The November 2005 merger completely changed BRLC. Let me check the news for this information:

«On November 30, 2005, we completed our merger with Syntax Groups Corporation, a privately held California corporation ("Syntax"), whereby a wholly owned subsidiary of our company was merged with and into Syntax and Syntax became a wholly owned subsidiary of our company (the "Merger"). As consideration for the Merger, Syntax shareholders received 1.5379 shares of our common stock for each share of Syntax common stock held by them on November 30, 2005 (the "Exchange Rate"). In the aggregate, shareholders of Syntax received approximately 34.3 million shares of our common stock. The Exchange Rate was calculated so that former shareholders of Syntax owned approximately 70% of the fully diluted shares of the combined company at the closing of the Merger. Therefore, the Merger has been accounted for as a reverse merger wherein Syntax is deemed to be the acquiring entity from an accounting perspective. As such, the historical financial statements of Syntax became the historical financial statements of the combined company upon completion of the Merger.»

So, comparisons between what the company is now and what it was a year ago are futile. I should consider just the latest 4 quarters. Analysts expect sales in 4Q to come in at $186.33 M, which is 3.1 fold more than in the same period of last year. Indeed, sales are growing very rapidly on BRLC.

Estimates for the 12 months until Jun 07 are for $583.5 M in revenues, and for Jun 08 are for $797 M. The current market cap is $394 M and the industry's price to sales ratio is 1.22 (so, exclusively according to this, market cap should be about $711 M in Jun 07 to be at market average. This means an 80% rise in the share price (or say, 50% on the share price plus 30% on the share count looks more realistic).

Let's check the net income (now I'll forget about the period before November 05).

4.4. Profits

Please note that the last 3 bars represent the expectation for full fiscal years 2006, 2007 and 2008. For fiscal 2007, which ends in June 07, the estimate is for $0.48, so the current earnings multiple is 15.9. For Jun 2008, if estimates are met, the earnings multiple is 11.

5. General Overview

Man, this stock is hard to analyze. Analysts are seeing incredible growth here, and if they're right BRLC is trading at a huge discount.

Let's see, by parts:

- Technical analysis is very bullish, but the stock is up 300% in just 4 months or so. It may correct a chunk here.
- The increase in the number of shares outstanding is after all, normal. The big jump in the end of 2005 was because of the merger with Syntax, and the share count growth since then is the company financing itself to ramp up production, as demand is building.
- Probably the problems I see on the balance sheet are a seasonal thing. Inventories and receivables building up for the Christmas shopping season.
- Revenue and EPS growth is impressive, but even more impressive are estimates going forward

My general overview goes to this idea: wait for a pullback to get in. Probably the stock will come down to fill the gap at $6.38 or touch some of its ascending supports. I would buy then.

Pennant: A pennant is a small symmetrical triangle that begins wide and converges as the pattern matures (like a cone). The slope is usually neutral. Sometimes there will not be specific reaction highs and lows from which to draw the trend lines and the price action should just be contained within the converging trend lines.
