Panacos, FDA Agree on Revised Study

Panacos Pharma to Move on With Studies for Bevirimat After FDA Agreement on Revised Study

WATERTOWN, Mass. (AP) -- Biotechnology company Panacos Pharmaceuticals Inc. said Monday it has agreed with the Food and Drug Administration on a revised trial design for a midstage study of HIV drug candidate bevirimat.

The drug previously failed to meet expectations in a midstage study testing a high dose. The next part of the Phase IIb clinical trial will test tolerability and effectiveness at increasing doses using an oral liquid form. Dosing on the next cohort will involve 8 patients on the drug and 2 on placebo, starting at 250 milligrams. The doses will be escalated in later groups by 50 milligrams each following safety reviews.

"Models relating antiviral response to drug levels based on earlier bevirimat clinical data indicated that doses of the liquid solution in the 300-400 milligram range would be likely to approach the maximum antiviral effect," said Dr. Alan W. Dunton, chief executive. "Our new study design should allow us to see antiviral response data from that dose range later this year."

Based on this dose escalation plan, Panacos said it expects to initiate pivotal trials of bevirimat in 2008.

Shares of Panacos rose 18 cents, or 4.4 percent, to close at $4.25 on the

PANC : did just what I was looking for it ended the day +.33.
Now don't think I'm a big winner here,, I'll let you know how I trade this one. When I first bought this stock @4.30 after it fell from FDA ruling I look at the risk/reward ratio on this and decided to buy 100 shares. If it continues to fall I can let it fall .50 and lose only $50.00 or it could go back up and to fill gap and make over $100.00 which would be about 25% return and could possible become more. Lets see how long it will take for the 5.50 gap to fill.
With todays run I think my reward will outdo the risk as planed.
Reason for the run

The Big W

Double Bottoms provide visual reference points that map the entire reversal process. Once located, these signposts identify most key price pivots and flash early warning signals when violated. The most common of these, The Big W, begins at the last major high printed by a downtrending stock, just prior to the first bottom. The first bounce after this low creates the center of the W as it retraces between 38% and 62% of that last downward move.
This rally fades and price descends back toward a test of the last bottom low. At this moment the trader listens closely for the first bell to ring. A wide range reversal bar (doji or hammer) may appear close to the low price of the last bottom. Or volume spikes sharply but price does not fail. Better yet, a Turtle Reversal develops where price violates the last low by a few ticks and then prints a sharp move back above support. Should any or all of these events occur, we mark the potential second leg on our Big W.
Trade entry can be initiated aggressively near the bottom of the second leg if the bells ring loudly. The top of the shorter move marking the partial retracement of the last downward impulse (middle of the W) now becomes our main pivot price for analysis and further trade entry. For price to successfully return to this point, it must retrace 100% of the last fall (from the second low). This finally breaks the lower high, lower low bear cycle. In strong DBs, price will quickly surge to this price right off the second bottom.

A less aggressive long position can be entered when this new impulse retraces strongly through 62% of the fall into the second low. However, if a short-term exit is desired, sufficient profit potential must exist between the entry and the pivot price for this trade to make sense. Longer-term traders can hold positions as price mounts this pivot. At this point, it will often pause to test support. However, another upward leg is then expected.

Hi ares,,just got in from work,,Thursday is a long day for me
Only reason for buying I stated in thread about how much short percent of the float is. It doesn't take much of a pop and the shorts will be forced to cover and that will only make it go higher forcing more shorts to cover.
Notice how it done found the support. Now just wait for any kind of good news and pop will begin forcing shorts to cover. Today looks like maybe the shorts is getting nervous and probably selling before it pops.
