BUSINESS SUMMARY
Emergent BioSolutions, Inc., a biopharmaceutical company, focuses on the development, manufacture, and commercialization of immunobiotics primarily in the United States. Immunobiotics are pharmaceutical products, such as vaccines and immune globulins that assist the body's immune system to prevent diseases. The company operates in two segments, Biodefense and Commercial. The Biodefense segment develops, manufactures, and commercializes immunobiotics for use against biological agents. This segment's primary product is BioThrax, a vaccine for the prevention of anthrax infection. Its other products, which are in preclinical stage comprise Anthrax immune globulin, for post-exposure treatment of anthrax infection; Botulinum immune globulin for post-exposure treatment of illness caused by botulinum toxin; and Recombinant bivalent botulinum vaccine, a prophylaxis for illness caused by botulinum toxin. The Commercial segment develops immunobiotics for use against infectious diseases. This segment's product portfolio includes Typhoid vaccine, a single-dose vaccine in phase II clinical development; Hepatitis B therapeutic vaccine, for treating chronic carriers of hepatitis B infection, which is in phase II clinical development; and Group B streptococcus vaccine, a product in phase I clinical trial for administration to women of childbearing age for protection of the fetus and newborn babies. In addition, Emergent BioSolutions is developing a chlamydia vaccine and a meningitis B vaccine, which are in preclinical development. The company serves primarily the U.S. Department of Defense and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. It has collaboration agreements with U.K. Health Protection Agency for the development of a human botulinum immune globulin candidate; and with Sanofi Pasteur for the development of meningitis B vaccine candidate. The company, formerly known as BioPort Corporation, was founded in 1998 and is based in Rockville, Maryland.

ACHIEVES ENDPOINT IN PH II CLINICAL STUDY: Emergent BioSolutions Inc. (EBS) announced
that preliminary results from a recently completed, randomized, placebo-controlled
Phase II clinical study demonstrated that its single-dose, drinkable typhoid vaccine candidate
achieved the study endpoints for safety and immunogenicity. In this clinical study, which recruited
children between 5 and 14 years of age, a total of 101 children received the vaccine
candidate and 50 children received placebo. The vaccine candidate and placebo were allocated
in a blinded manner. This clinical study, which was conducted in Viet Nam, is the first study of
this product candidate in a pediatric population in a region in which typhoid is endemic and was
performed in collaboration with Oxford University and the Hospital for Tropical Diseases, Ho Chi
Minh City, Viet Nam, and financially supported by the Wellcome Trust.

Emergent Shares Soar on Revenue Outlook
Monday January 7, 2:40 pm ET
Emergent BioSolutions Shares Jump on Expected Revenue Boost in 2007, 2008 From Contract

NEW YORK (AP) -- Shares of Emergent BioSolutions Inc. jumped Monday after the biotechnology company said a key government contract will drive revenue higher in 2007 and 2008.

The stock surged $1.91, or 37.7 percent, to $6.87 in afternoon trading as volume soared. Shares have traded between $4.40 and $17.75 over the past 52 weeks.

The company said revenue will rise 20 percent to $183 million in 2007, though net income will likely remain flat. It expects net income between $21 million and $24 million, compared with $22.8 million in 2006. Full-year results are expected to be completed in February.

In 2008, the company expects net income of $20 million on revenue between $180 million and $195 million.

The company said the revenue boost will largely come from a three-year contract with the Department of Health and Human Services for the anthrax vaccine BioThrax. The contract is worth $448 million.

Analysts polled by Thomson Financial expect net income of $19.9 million on revenue of $180.8 million in 2007 and net income of $6.5 million on revenue of $160.2 million in 2008.

Emergent did not release spending figures but said it will continue research and development programs for an anthrax treatment, hepatitis B treatment, and typhoid vaccine.

Cowen and Co. analyst Eric Schmidt reaffirmed an "Outperform" rating said the company could beat its own 2008 revenue guidance if the Department of Defense buys more BioThrax, which is the only Food and Drug Administration-approved anthrax vaccine.

"Although the Department of Defense has withdrawn a requisition to obtain additional BioThrax supply, it continues to vaccinate its personnel and will likely need to procure additional BioThrax doses during 2008," he said in a note to investors.

The company is developing a mix of biodefense and commercial vaccine products, including a new anthrax vaccine.
