BUSINESS SUMMARY  
Morningstar, Inc. provides independent investment research to investors worldwide. It offers Internet, software, and print-based products for individuals, financial advisors, and institutional clients, as well as asset management services for advisors, institutions, and retirement plan participants. The company operates in three segments: Individual, Advisor, and Institutional. The Individual segment's products include Morningstar.com, which offers membership service and Internet advertising space for individual investors; and Morningstar Equity Research that offers independent equity research on various companies, as well as various print and online publications on stocks, mutual funds, personal finance, and other investing topics. The Advisor segment's products include Morningstar Advisor Workstation, a Web-based investment planning system; and Principia, a CD-ROM-based investment research and planning software. Morningstar 3Q Earnings Rise 47 Percent

Morningstar 3rd-Quarter Earnings Jump on Growth in International and Institutional Operations


CHICAGO (AP) -- Morningstar Inc. said Thursday third-quarter earnings rose 47 percent due to growth in the investment research firm's international operations and institutional products and services segment.

Net income rose to $19.9 million, or 41 cents per share, from $13.5 million, or 29 cents per share, during the same period a year ago.

Analysts polled by Thomson Financial, on average, forecast earnings of 39 cents per share on revenue of $112.5 million for the quarter.

Revenue increased to $111.9 million in the third quarter, from $81.8 million during the comparable period last year.

Revenue from international operations more than doubled in the third quarter to $24.9 million. International revenue included $8.6 million from acquisitions, including from Standard & Poor's fund data business.

"Our operations outside the United States grew substantially," Joe Mansueto, chairman and chief executive of Morningstar, said in a statement. "We're now much more diversified geographically."

Institutional segment revenue grew to $60.8 million, from $38.6 million during the year-ago quarter. Investment consulting was the largest contributor to growth in the segment.

Shares fell 42 cents to $74 in morning trading.

Stock looks just a little pricy, but very strong growth and also looks to be on the verge of breakout. On my watchlist for now.

When I looked at MORN on Google Finance, I checked out their comparables and TSCM caught my eye.  TheStreet.com.  Legit earnings.  Nice earnings and revenue momentum, and pretty cheap (PE is about 25, forward is 20).   Check it out Sully if you'd like and let me know what you think. 

Technically..pulled back to breakout zone / support and should be ready for a run.
