Oil Prices & Company News

Good morning. Premarket futures are lower amid record high oil prices and a Goldman Sachs prediction for $200 oil.

In other news, a larger than expected loss, dividend cut, and more capital raising at Fannie Mae and disappointing news from homebuilder D.R. Horton (DHI) don't exactly make investors feel like the worst is over. Overseas markets were mixed and treasury prices are on the rise.

Premarket gainers: ATSI, DIVX, PWAV, ECLP, AFAM, APC, AU, ARG, WEL, ARMH, CRBC, MCK, DROOY, WEL, GOLD, TASR, TKLC, VCLK, VNDA, MICC, DRYS, YHOO, CALM, and SOHU.

Premarket losers: OMPI, VM, CIM, SMG, FNM, FRE, WTW, DHI, JRCC, OTTR, PRGO, BRCM, SHPGY, Q, CLF, RYAAY, JOYG, and KTII.

No economic reports are on the calendar so direction will be dependent on oil prices and company news. After the closing bell, investors will be hoping for really good news from Cisco Systems (CSCO) and Disney (DIS) to set the tone for tomorrow's session.

We'll see if the bears can take advantage of this morning's negative sentiment. Have a terrific Tuesday!

The bears keep huffing and puffing, but they can't break this market down.

As oil prices hit another new record, short-squeezed turnarounds in Fannie Mae (FNM) and D.R. Horton (DHI) put the bears back on the run. In fact, just to keep traders off balance, the buy programs were turned on one hour earlier than usual.

The action continues to suggest that the bears don't have the muscle to take the market lower. The burden of proof remains.

Back Up The Truck
Last Update:  May 5, 2008

Goal:  Find stocks that are under heavy accumulation by Wall Street and for good reason.

Information:  This is one of the better money flow screens I've developed that specifically finds stocks that are showing tremendous buy interest by Wall Street and which also have the fundamentals to back up that interest. This screen will be updated weekly and is short-term focused.

Performance Tracking:
As of 4/28, yearly gain was +23.2% (57% winners)

As of 5/2, quarterly gain was +0.07% (50% winners)

Buying tomorrow

Hansen Medical, Inc. (HNSN)

Robotic surgery is not the wave of the future, it's the wave of the present. Intuitive surgical are dominating this space and have gained 700% in the last 3 years. Robotic surgery takes less operating time, shortens recovery time dramatically and increases chances of a successful outcome - all music to health and insurance companies' ears.. ISRG's 'da Vinci' robot is in use in urologic, cardiothoracic, gynecologic, and general surgeries.
But there is another thing about ISRG.. it's founder, DR. Fred Moll..
Dr. Fred is now founder and CEO of Hansen Medical that just recently IPO'd. Hansen does what ISRG does, but in the catheter-based technologies field - helping place catheters in heart surgery.
Valued at 400 million dollars, this new comer seems to have all the key ingredients for success: a reliable and proven fonder, a field that has just one player in it and an industry with more and more customers - people are living longer and demand for these procedures will keep growing.
If HNSN will turn out half the success ISRG has been, we're looking at massive returns down the line, appetizing enough that I've added it to my portfolio.

Pick Your Poison

It was a tough day for the bulls.

If you wanted to find a reason to sell, it wasn't difficult. You could pick your poison: 1) another record high in oil, 2) weak home sales, 3) a huge increase in consumer borrowing, 5) a pullback in boomer spending, 6) trouble brewing in the housing bailout, 7) a new SEC reg to force disclosure of more losses and tragedy in Myanmar. I could easily keep going on from there.

With a close under the key 1400 level, the rest of the week certainly takes on more importance to confirm whether this is just a temporary buyer's strike or that the powerful counter-trend rally is kaput. Like before, watch the move back into treasuries and whether the SPDRs Select Sector Financial ETF (XLF) breaks down.

The bears have met the burden of proof, at least for the day, but this battle is not over. Be prepared to see increased volatility and tough trading. We've had it good for awhile, so buckle up. This is when things get very tricky.

When you are so bullish on the market, it is tumble time.

Many previous high fliers are going down.

I exited many of the stocks two days ago after gaining 50% or more:

AAPL, POT, MOS, MON, GOOG, BIDU, SOHU, CTRP, SINA, just name a few.

A few months ago I linked to FINVIZ and since then I keep hearing positive comments about the website. Upon further review, I like this website even more.

Among the many neat features include a simple and easy-to-use stock screener, maps that allow you to see sector and stock rotation, and insider trading info. In fact, they even offer a blog that offers tips on how to take advantage of the website.

While I doubt it will last long, they also get a thumbs up from me for not having ads all over the place. All in all, FINVIZ is a great resource and one you'll want to check out.
