DynCorp International Inc. (NYSE:DCP) shares are up 8% today after research firm Stifel Nicolaus upgraded the Falls Church, Va.-based defense and technical services company to "buy" from "hold." The company works with the U.S. Department of Defense and the U.S. Department of State on international security services and logistics and construction management. The upgrade was based on the continued presence of both DynCorp and the United States in the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, Thomson Financial reported. Shares of DynCorp are at $15.59 at 1:46 ET, up $1.22 from Friday's close. Shares of the stock have ranged from $14 to $27.58 during the past year.

The company primarily offers international policing and police training, judicial support, and immigration support; provides security and personal protection for diplomats; designs, installs, and operates security systems; and develops security software, smart cards, and biometrics. It also offers peace-keeping support, humanitarian relief, de-mining, inventory procurement and tracking, property control, and data entry services; facility and equipment maintenance and control, and custodial and administrative services; civil, electrical, infrastructure, environmental, and mechanical engineering and construction management services; drug eradication and host nation pilot and crew training services; and recruitment, deployment, and on-site management of interpreters and translators in-theatre for foreign languages.
