Looking forward 6 months...Timing is everything...
Lots of cash on balance sheet, momentum from bear market rally.
Private equity to increase as market continues rally amidst growing optimism.

Obviously ACAS has a lot of ground to make up considering how much it lost in the big slide that took down so many financials.
However, the worst is over and by ACAS stopping the huge dividend payout they have created very reasonable liquidity and added considerable equity to the stock which is now being reflected in the share price. The current P/E and the projected earnings (which have been beating estimates) say this stock is still considerably undervalued and has plenty of room on the upside.

I would expect ACAS to plateau around mid seven, then hold for awhile oscillating in a tight band as it consolidates. Then we should see the next leg up that will take us somewhere between $11-to $14 per share near term. My model can't project much further than 90 days, so the next leg up is purely my best guess based off a number of positive things I see happening now...that and decades of acquired intuition! lol  ;D ;D :D

Unless something major breaks in the news, I don't see a lot of downside risk here, least not anymore than any other stock in this sector. Risk versus reward looks good.

I suggest you take a look Ford's latest rating on this stock to get a pretty good picture of the potential.

UPDATE 1-American Capital Q3 profit edges past Street view

Tue Nov 2, 2010 4:35pm EDT

* Q3 operating EPS $0.17 vs est $0.16

* Net asset value up 5 pct

* Operating expenses fall 48 pct

Nov 2 (Reuters) - American Capital Ltd (ACAS.O), a private-equity firm and asset manager, posted a third-quarter operating profit that edged past analysts' estimates, helped by lower operating expenses.

The company, whose biggest shareholder is billionaire investor John Paulson with a near-13 percent holding, posted a profit of $149 million, or 43 cents a share, compared with $77 million, or 27 cents a share, last year.

Net operating income was $59 million, or 17 cents a share.

Analysts on average were expecting earnings of 16 cents a share, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.

"There are a considerable number of mezzanine and second-lien investment opportunities that we expect will translate into investments over the next year, as the volume of mergers and acquisitions increases," Chief Executive Malon Wilkus said.

Net asset value rose 5 percent to $9.59 a share sequentially.

The company said it will repay $107 million of debt in the fourth quarter.

American Capital, which completed restructuring $2.4 billion of debt in June, said interest and dividend income fell 29 percent to $125 million and operating expenses fell 48 percent to $83 million.

Shares of the Bethesda, Maryland-based company closed at $7.10 on Tuesday on Nasdaq. The stock has risen 32 percent since June 28 when the company completed debt restructuring.
