I think it's because most of the folks following the pennies are probably looking for the smallest pennies (i.e. under .01 in most cases, with .10 as a top for getting in).

Mirant Calif. Pittsburg 7 power unit back
Mon Sep 12, 2005 08:16 AM ET
NEW YORK, Sept 12 (Reuters) - Mirant Corp.'s (MIRKQ.PK: Quote, Profile, Research) 682-megawatt unit 7 at the Pittsburg natural gas-fired power station in California returned to service by late Sunday, the California Independent System Operator said in a report.
The unit shut by late Thursday for both planned and unplanned reasons.

The 1,311 MW Pittsburg station is located in Pittsburg in Contra Costa County about 40 miles east of San Francisco. There are three units at the station: the 312 MW unit 5, the 317 MW unit 6 and the 682 MW unit 7.

Unit 5 meanwhile remained shut while unit 6 returned to service. Units 5 and 6 both shut on Sept. 8.

One MW can power about 800 homes, according to the national average.

Bankrupt Atlanta-based energy company Mirant's subsidiaries own and operate 18,000 MW of generating capacity and market energy commodities in the United States, the Philippines and the Caribbean.

Mirant says reaches creditor deal on bankruptcy
Thu Sep 8, 2005 07:13 AM ET
NEW YORK, Sept 8 (Reuters) - Independent power producer Mirant Corp. (MIRKQ.PK: Quote, Profile, Research) has reached a deal with a number of key creditors in its bankruptcy case, gaining their support for an amended plan of reorganization, the company said.
In a statement late Wednesday night, Mirant said the deal had the support of three committees appointed to represent creditors and stockholders, and two ad hoc representatives as well.

The new deal will see $6.5 billion in debt and unsecured obligations at the parent level converted into 96.25 percent of the company's remaining common stock, among many other terms and conditions.

The deal would also see former Edison Mission CEO Edward Muller become chairman and chief executive of Mirant, replacing Bill Dahlberg and Marce Fuller, respectively.

Mirant's lead attorney said the judge in the case was willing to pursue a schedule that could see Mirant exit Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection by the end of the year.

Arkansas Electric Cooperative Corporation Completes Purchase of Mirant Wrightsville Power Plant
Thursday September 29, 12:20 pm ET

LITTLE ROCK, Ark., Sept. 29 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Arkansas Electric Cooperative Corporation (AECC) completed its purchase of the 548-megawatt natural gas-fired power plant at Wrightsville on Sept. 28.

AECC purchased the plant from Mirant (Pink Sheets: MIRKQ - News), an Atlanta- based energy company, for $85 million. All required state and federal regulatory approvals have been received.

The state-of-the-art power plant has nine generators -- seven combustion turbines and two steam turbines.

The sale of Wrightsville is consistent with Mirant's strategy to focus on core assets and markets. The sale also supports Mirant's goal to emerge from Chapter 11 as a stronger, more competitive company.

With the plant, AECC now has 2,977 megawatts of generating capacity. AECC owns and operates three hydropower plants on the Arkansas River, three natural gas/oil-fired plants, one natural gas-fired plant, and owns/leases portions of three coal-fired plants. During the past 18 years, AECC has invested nearly $600 million in expansion and upgrades to its generation capacity.

AECC is owned by 16 of the state's 17 electric distribution cooperatives. AECC, the distribution cooperatives and Little Rock-based Arkansas Electric Cooperatives, Inc., (AECI), a statewide service organization, are known collectively as the Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas. The 17 distribution cooperatives serve about 460,000 members across Arkansas and in surrounding states.

Mirant is a competitive energy company that produces and sells electricity in the United States, the Caribbean, and the Philippines. Mirant owns or leases more than 18,000 megawatts of electric generating capacity globally. The company operates an asset management and energy marketing organization from its headquarters in Atlanta.
