2-year weekly chart for GIGM: showing next uptrend resistance at ~$17.50
I believe GIGM will reach that area before correcting.

berloga

Sorry, here is the chart.

mitchjas

I took profit on GIGM today at 15.75.  5 weeks from 9.2 to 15.75.   ;D

I think GIGM is still worth more than 16 but I'm still a trader at heart not a long term investor.  So based on the excellent run/comeback from the 9's to near 16 in 5 weeks, and it nearing top resistance around 16, and with the RSI at 81, I'm betting it will bump its head on 16 for now.

I'd like to re-enter at some point so I'll keep a close watch.

This chart is a beauty!

GIGM is one company I'm not gonna chase with the dips. I was only illustrating the long-term chart to see where a correction could come in. Although GIGM grew much, it has been merely correcting the unwarranted decline. I want to hold it until we sense a change in fundamentals, like a substantial slow-down in profit growth.

I first bought GIGM in 12/05 when it was at 2.69. I held, sold, bought back, and sold, bought back, and repeated the cycle. I'm not sellng anymore.

Applaud Mitch  You nailed this one
I was watching thurs Am and as it plateaued off after hitting 16.30's i put a short order in at 16.25 but it never topped 16.23 again... bummer for me :(
Any way what kind of settling are you looking for for an entry?  would the 13's again be too much to hope for?  Gigm does want to go up, will see if the Markets allow it to.  All of the Gaming stocks are cranking on last weeks Vegas Receipts!!  I shorted some WYNN  trying to catch a top...  will see
Cheers joe

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on GIGM, berloga and capricho :)

It doesn't look like it, but GIGM was up 80.7% in just about a month, between the $9.02 low in August, 7, 2007 and the $16.3 high in September 12.

So it is perfectly natural for the stock to have a pullback like the one happening now. In my view we're just having a little bit of consolidation before enjoying a powerful bullish breakout.

I'll continue holding GIGM for the long term.

GIGM is a box filled with positive surprises, I wasn't even counting on this:

• GigaMedia Licenses Hot Game Title Holic
PR Newswire (Mon 6:00am)

I was expecting something about Mahjong for $$$, Japanese suite of games or the online game HellGate: London, which were talked about in the latest conference call, but it seems Hui had more cards on his hand.

Entering China's online gaming market is a great step for GIGM. Companies like NTES, SNDA, NCTY operating in that space have a higher than GIGM market cap (NTES and SNDA are more than two times larger) and have very fat operating margins. So GIGM also wants a piece of the cake ... in fact it looks like it's going for a big chunk.

I wonder if this press release will be enough of a catalyst for GIGM to breakout above $16.42 this week. That would be cool :)

I already commented on the following press release:

• GigaMedia Licenses Hot Game Title Holic
PR Newswire (Mon 6:00am)

It's good news but it lacks financial details. The market's response wasn't very enthusiastic, since GIGM rose just 0.2% on the day, but probably that had to do with the general market jitters and investors not placing many strong bets before an all important FED meeting.

I'll keep holding GIGM for the long term.

good news:
GigaMedia Licenses Hot Game Title Holic
Monday , September 17, 2007 06:00ET

TAIPEI, Taiwan, Sept. 17 /Xinhua-PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- GigaMedia Limited ("GigaMedia" or the "Company") (Nasdaq: GIGM) announced today that it has secured an exclusive license to offer and operate the hot new massively multiplayer online role-playing game Holic, in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau.

Holic is an exciting game full of adorable characters, brilliant colors, martial arts and magic that cast a powerful spell of fun.

"With its fantastic adventures and movie-like thrills, Holic is rapidly becoming one of the hottest games in Korea - and we expect it to be an even bigger hit in Greater China," stated GigaMedia President Thomas Hui. "Cute- style MMORPGs represent a huge and lucrative market in Greater China: By adding Holic we are both strengthening our growing game portfolio and securing another important game segment."

Holic was created by MGame, a leading Korean game developer with a proven history of hit MMORPGs, including Yulgang, one of the top five 3D MMORPGs in China, and Hero Online.

"We are thrilled to partner with MGame, an expert in this genre of MMORPGs, and expect this strategic relationship to drive significant long-term growth in our online games business," added President Thomas Hui.

"We could not have chosen a better operator for Holic, and a better partner for MGame," stated MGame Chief Executive Officer Yi Hyung Kweon. "GigaMedia's unrivaled, extensive footprint in Greater China and strong game expertise will help make our games a tremendous success."

Exclusive regional licensing of Holic in all of Greater China demonstrates the value and synergies GigaMedia's pan-Asian platform offers leading international game developers. The Company's regional online games platform addresses a growing base of 65 million registered users in Greater China.

"While this is an exciting partnership, we are only beginning to leverage our pan-Asian platform and secure regional rights for hit titles in Greater China," explained President Thomas Hui. "We expect Holic to be one of several top games we will be operating in Greater China as we continue to leverage the synergies and massive reach of our online game platforms across Asia."

A cute-style MMORPG set in a colorful medieval countryside, Holic immerses players in a charming world of fantasy and adventure. Players create delightful cartoon-style characters, complete quests and battle monsters with magic and martial arts to advance through skill levels. Players may also create their own quests and environments to add even more excitement to the game.

GIGM is getting ready to blow the $16.42 resistance level. Just watch it and hold it for the long term.

David Randolph

GIGM is just 4.4% shy of a new high. I guess positive news won't be needed for the stock to breakout above the $16.42 resistance level. But I expect positive news, be it the quarterly results, the launch of the Japanese suite of games, Mahjong for $ or HellGate: London to take it to around $20 by year's end.

We just hit the new high, $16.50 as I type, looks like a strong candle forming today  ;D >:D
Chance favors the prepared mind

GIGM closed at a new 52 week high, as expected. Volume was above average, at 1.85 million shares. The stock will probably be around $20 by year's end. I'll keep holding GIGM for the long term.
