Hi-Shear Technology Corporation (AMEX:HSR), an established and growing defense and space exploration high-tech equipment/component provider, will release its 4Q 2005 and FY earnings results tomorrow 8/29/2005 (most likely AH).

On the successful launch of the Space Shuttle Discovery last month, pyrotechnic cartridges manufactured by HSR controlled all 99 of the pyrotechnic events which occurred during liftoff and ascent into earth's orbit. The HSR cartridges initiated such functions as separating locks and ground umbilicals at liftoff, separation of the solid rocket boosters (SRB's) from the main external fuel tank, release of the SRB parachutes, and separation of the Orbiter Vehicle from the main external fuel tank.

In addition to the 99 scheduled pyrotechnic initiations, HSR cartridges were also installed in an additional 35 emergency standby devices for functions such as fire extinguishing, up locking the nose and main landing gears etc.

HSR was recently awarded two major, five-year production contracts by the Naval Surface Warfare Center. The first contract is for the production of up to 10,000 Acoustic Firing Devices (AFD), which provide a safe firing system for the underwater demolition teams. The second award is for the production of electronic Firing Code Transmitters, which provide acoustic command actuation of the AFD, and is scheduled to begin production in March 2005 (4Q 2005).

Hi Shear's CEO recently said:

"During 2004 the Navy Surface Warfare Center awarded us two major long-term production contracts. The first contract is for the production over five years of up to 10,000 Acoustic Firing Devices, which provide a safe firing system for underwater demolition teams. The second contract is for five year production of electronic Firing Code Transmitters, which provide remote acoustic command actuation of the Acoustic Firing Device. These two contracts have a potential total of between $19 million and $25 million, depending on the usage of this new innovative military system." HSR said that these parts were scheduled for initial production during 4Q 2005.

Another Wise beauty    :o   How do you find these hidden gems??

I am buying tomorrow!!

Thank you for the tip.

422fwhp

Chart is a little sketchy buy overall I believe you have indeed discovered a gem.  I may nibble some in the later in the AM (it's 1:40am).

slt2005

I will buy more than what I planned originally. I've just finished doing some serious DD on this puppy and I really like what I see as a short and long-term investment.

wiseman213

Slt2005,

Nice to have you on board. I am glad that you are doing your independent DD and agree that HSR is a great value at these prices.

Also check out IOX. IOX is another low float, Profitable, and undervalued company with great upside and minimal downside. IOX will realease earnings any day before 8/30. It could be tomorrow. That's why I am buying today

IOX is only trading at $2.3. I forgot to mention that IOX has about $1/share in cash and no long term debt!!!

YOu better jump in soon. I am preparing my DD blurb on this one and I will releasze it soon.

Good luck!

422fwhp

Applaud for your gains.  I like almost everything I've found. The long term contracts for 19-25mil are worth as much as the company itself (mkt cap of 25mil). My only issue with the company is that it has no growth.

Have I overlooked something here?

laterz...Jody
*wishing I'd pulled the trigger today*

slt2005

Looking forward to today's action. Two full trading days until the earnings report comes out

Cheers!

HSR's SILVER BULLET.....

HSR lawsuit seeking $11M is compensatory damages and $$$millions more in punitive damages. Trial started July 15, 2005 in Brevard County, FLA.

A favorable ruling could send this puppy, with little over 6M outstanding shares,  flying past the Sapce Station

Shear suit
Los Angeles Business Journal,  May 23, 2005  by Amanda Bronstad

A Torrance aerospace firm is set to go to trial next month in a lawsuit against NASA's top contractor for its Space Shuttle, alleging it helped steal the designs for an integral component on the space vehicle for a competing firm.

Hi-Shear Technology Corp. (HSR) seeks $11 million in compensatory damages from United Space Alliance for allegedly giving the company's list of subcontractors for its "separation bolts" to Pacific Scientific Energetic Materials Co. The Chandler, Ariz.-based company then made use of the vendors and their knowledge of the bolts to win a contract with United Space five years ago, the suit alleges.

Separation bolts are an integral space shuttle component, holding the external fuel tank and the solid rocket booster in place during takeoff. They later fracture on command, allowing the booster to fall back to earth.

United Space is a joint venture of Boeing Co. and Lockheed Martin Corp. The case is scheduled for trial July 5 in the 18th Judicial Circuit Court in Brevard County, Fla.

"(United Space) expressly represented to Hi-Shear that its only purpose for obtaining this vendor list was to conduct a routine quality assurance evaluation of Hi-Shear's performance under the contracts," the suit states. "Contrary to its representations ... (United Space) provided it to Pacific Scientific and other third parties to facilitate the replacement of Hi-Shear as the supplier of separation bolts for the Space Shuttle."

Until March 2000, Hi-Shear's bolts had been used on every Space Shuttle mission. At that time, United Space began to solicit Hi-Shear's sub-tier vendors to perform the same work for Pacific, the suit states.

Defense attorney Mike Levin, a partner with Orlando-based Baker & Hostetler LLP, denied that United Space committed any wrongdoing.

Excerpt from company fiilings:

In November 2000, Hi-Shear sued United Space Alliance, LLC, a Delaware limited liability company ("Alliance"), and its predecessor USBI Company, a Delaware Corporation, in the Circuit Court of the Eighteenth Judicial Circuit in and for Brevard County, Florida. Hi-Shear filed suit to recover damages, including damages for the defendants' refusal to pay thirteen invoices totaling $1,319,000 on four separate contracts for specially manufactured aerospace components. All of those unpaid invoices, plus an unbilled amount of $384,000 related to work performed on two of the contracts, are included in accounts receivable at May 31, 2004. In addition, the Company's suit also seeks compensatory damages alleging that the defendants fraudulently induced Hi-Shear to make an excessively low bid on a request for proposal to manufacture certain other parts. Further damages are sought for defendants' misappropriation of Hi-Shear's confidential, proprietary and/or trade secret protected designs, drawings, and specifications for other aerospace components. At this time, the Company is seeking in excess of $11,000,000 in damages, excluding potential amounts for punitive and exemplary damages and pre-judgment interest.

In July 2004, Hi-Shear sued Pacific Scientific Energetic Materials Company, a Delaware Corporation in the Circuit Court of the Eighteenth Judicial Circuit in and for Brevard County, Florida. Hi-Shear filed suit to recover damages resulting from the defendants' misappropriation of Hi-Shear's confidential, proprietary and/or trade secret protected designs, drawings and specifications for certain aerospace components, conspiracy to steal and misappropriate said items, and interference with Hi-Shear's advantageous business relationships. The events of this matter are related to the United Space Alliance lawsuit.

The lawsuit against United Space Alliance, LLC and USBI Company remains in the discovery phase. The Company believes that is has valid claims receivable against these defendants. Further, the Company believes that the counterclaim is without merit. Accordingly, no accruals for either potential amounts payable or reserves on uncollected receivables have been made at this time

slt2005

I read about the lawsuit in detail and seems like HSR has a very strong case Even if they are only paid for the past dues (from legitimate invoices), that's several million dollars including interests

Don't forget that 1Q 2006 is reported in Mid October. Only six weeks away.

When HSR starts getting  revenues from its largest multi-year contracts (see detail below), revenues will jump 15 to 25% compared to past performance. I expect that some producction might have started in 4Q 2005, but I believe that starting 1Q 2006 HSR will start recognizing big revenues form these two contracts.

NAVY Contract Comments:
