Nutrition 21 Shares Surge After Rite Aid Agrees to Distribute Chromax Product


NEW YORK (AP) -- Shares of Nutrition 21 Inc. spiked Thursday, after the maker of dietary supplements said it received a large purchase order for its Chromax product from drugstore chain Rite Aid Corp. -- its retail debut.
Under the pact, Rite Aid will distribute Chromax in its roughly 3,400 stores nationwide. Chromax is the company's brand name for chromium picolinate, which is said to boost insulin sensitivity and improve sugar metabolism in people with type 2 diabetes.

The deal is "a significant initial step in our transition from primarily a wholesale ingredients supplier to also a supplier of branded finished goods," said Chief Operating Officer Paul Intlekofer, adding that the shift should benefit financial results by the second half of 2006.

The stock added 30 cents, or 43.5 percent, to 99 cents in afternoon trading on the Nasdaq, as trading volume surged to roughly 1.4 million versus a daily average of about 112,000.

Holy crap!  It sure did break!  Was thinking of buying some around $1 but put my money into other stocks.  Nice job Metro! :)

Picked some up yesterday at 1.88. Nice pop on the Wal-Mart news; might hang on to this for awhile  :D  Anyone making predictions on how high she goes?
