La-onda--
I really like this stock. The private placement gives them some room and it seems as if they have some very strong things in the pipeline.
I will wait however until it pulls back to support around $1.32. By the way Stanford has a price target on Kal of $5 (12 months). All the best.

news from yesterday:
Callisto's Drug Atiprimod Active in State-of-the-Art Animal Model of Multiple Myeloma Developed by Dana-Farber Cancer Researchers
Wednesday October 5, 4:01 pm ET
Atiprimod Highlighted in a Paper Published in American Society of Hematology Journal

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 5, 2005--Callisto Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (AMEX: KAL - News; FWB: CA4), a biopharmaceutical company primarily focused on the development of drugs to treat cancer, today announced the publication of a manuscript showing that Atiprimod, Callisto's drug candidate for multiple myeloma, inhibits growth of tumors in a cutting-edge animal model of human multiple myeloma, a currently incurable blood cancer. Dana-Farber researchers developed the unique animal model to improve their ability to study the drug's effectiveness as a potential new therapy for humans diagnosed with multiple myeloma.
The article which appeared in the July issue of the American Society of Hematology's journal Blood, Volume 106, Number 2, pp.713-716 (2005), and is entitled, "A clinically relevant SCID-hu in vivo model of human multiple myeloma," was authored by a team of scientists at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (Boston, MA) and scientists at Callisto Pharmaceuticals, Inc.
"The Dana-Farber research team is well known for their pioneering research and clinical activities in the field of multiple myeloma," said Dr. Gary S. Jacob, Chief Executive Officer of Callisto Pharmaceuticals. "Their present paper describes an elegant mouse model of the human disease, and demonstrates that Atiprimod inhibits growth of multiple myeloma tumors in this model. What's more, this work demonstrates that Atiprimod can target human MM cells in the human bone marrow microenvironment."
In the U.S.A., 15,980 new cases of multiple myeloma are expected to be diagnosed in 2005. At present, there are more than 50,000 people in the United States living with the disease, according to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (www.multiplemyeloma.org). While not curable, multiple myeloma can be treated with drug therapies. However, a significant number of multiple myeloma patients stop responding to existing drugs; Atiprimod is being developed as a novel alternative treatment option for these so-called relapsed patients.

The manuscript described a novel in vivo multiple myeloma (MM) model developed by engrafting a human multiple myleoma cell line into severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID) mice previously given implants of a human fetal bone chip. Researchers from Dana-Farber monitored growth of these IL-6 dependent human multiple myeloma cells by measuring the level of soluble human IL-6 receptor in mouse serum and by fluorescence imaging of host animals.

Atiprimod is currently being evaluated in a Phase I/IIa clinical trial in relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma patients at four clinical sites in the United States -- the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (Boston, MA), the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center (Houston, TX), the St. Vincent's Comprehensive Cancer Center (New York, NY) and the Roswell Park Cancer Institute (Buffalo, NY). In Callisto's last public announcement regarding this trial, which was release on May 4, 2005, Callisto announced that three patient cohorts had completed dosing at 30, 60 and 90 mg, respectively, and a fourth dosing cohort was then underway at 120 mg. No dose limiting toxicities had been observed, at that date. A fifth dose cohort at 180 mg was anticipated to begin 6 to 8 weeks from that date.

additional info:
(financialwire.net via COMTEX) --October 6, 2005 (FinancialWire) Callisto Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (AMEX: KAL) gained 5.97% on volume of 389,100, three times its average volume of 127,000, to close at $1.42 in the first session after it was assigned a 12-month target of $3.10 by Investrend affiliate Beacon Equity Research analyst Shailesh Dhuri, CFA.

The analyst also stated:

There are multiple, diverse drugs in the development portfolio, reducing Callisto's dependence on any single product or sector for market success.

Two key drug candidates already have FDA "Orphan Drug Status" advantages, offering strong protection against competition for up to seven years following their respective market launch;

Anti-cancer focus is on treating relapsed or refractory "third line of defense" cases, where other treatments have failed, representing a smart "market entry strategy" that further lowers threats of competition;

Superantigen research could produce market successes within the increasingly lucrative, burgeoning Homeland Security marketplace

The Beacon report describes Callisto in part as "an emerging bio-technology company with a clear vision to develop drugs to treat various types of cancers, such as leukemia, multiple myeloma and osteolytic bone disease." These drug treatments include one for relapsed or refractory acute leukemia, called Annamycin, and another to treat relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma and bone resorption, called Atiprimod.

"Callisto Pharmaceuticals presents an interesting story and has fundamentals normally not found in other small, development-stage pharmaceutical firms," Beacon wrote in its report. "Investors should note that it is quite diversified for an emerging firm with multiple drugs currently under development."

The analyst added: "Callisto's portfolio contains two anti-cancer drug candidates, Atiprimod and Annamycin," according to the report. "These may one day prove to treat some of the worst forms of cancer in patients who have stopped responding to other treatments. These innovative drugs may one day have a major impact on the cancer treatment market in general, not to mention the patients who have lost hope who may be able to continue their battles with these powerful treatments."

news update:
Friday , October 07, 2005 16:01 ET

NEW YORK, Oct 07, 2005 (BUSINESS WIRE) --Callisto Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (AMEX:KAL), a developer of novel drug treatments in the fight against hematological cancers and other diseases and conditions, today announced a research collaboration with the Institute of Hepatitis Viral Research (IHVR) to further develop its biodefense program. The IHVR and the Drexel Institute of Biotechnology and Viral Research (DIBVIR) are located in Doylestown, PA and are affiliated with Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA.

"The collaboration is designed to accelerate the development of monoclonal antibodies and vaccines against bacterial superantigen toxins -- highly lethal toxins that can be used as instruments of bioterrorism," said Dr. Gary Jacob, CEO of Callisto.

"This is an important and exciting opportunity for Callisto to be on the front lines in the fight against increasingly viable biowarfare threats," said Dr. Kunwar Shailubhai, Senior Vice President of Drug Discovery at Callisto and the principal investigator on the joint project. "We will concentrate on the enterotoxin of staphylococcus aureus B, a potentially potent, incapacitating and lethal toxin that can be easily weaponized in simple laboratories without sophisticated tools. There is clearly an urgent and unmet medical need for the development of broad-spectrum countermeasures to these threats. Our collaboration will be leading the charge to create effective vaccines, therapies and diagnostic tools to fight the use of this deadly class of toxins as a weapon against innocent U.S. civilians."

Dr. Shailubhai, who also has joint appointments as a professor at the IHVR and as an adjunct Professor at the DIBVIR, will be focused on the development of lead monoclonal antibodies (mAb) and antagonist peptides to provide broad-spectrum protection against superantigens from the staphylococcal and streptococcal bacterial strains. The project is formally entitled, "Peptide and Antibodies as Antidotes for Superantigens," and is being funded in part by a major grant to Callisto of more than $885,000 from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID).

"Kunwar brings many years of experience in drug discovery and development in the pharmaceutical industry and we are very pleased to have him guiding this research collaboration," said Dr. Timothy Block, President of the Institute of Hepatitis Viral Research. "In addition, his obvious passion for biodefense-related research is consistent with our own dedication to the discovery and development of novel therapies for cancer, viruses and bioterrorism-related diseases."

news update:
Callisto Pharmaceuticals Announces Development of New Method to Synthesize Anti-Cancer Drug Candidate Annamycin
Tuesday October 11, 4:01 pm ET
Synthesis Process Strengthens Commercial Viability of Novel Drug Intended as Therapy for Relapsed Leukemia

NEW YORK, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 11, 2005--Callisto Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (AMEX:KAL - News; FWB:CA4), a developer of new drug treatments in the fight against hematological cancers and related diseases, has announced that one of its development partners has created a method to synthesize its anti-cancer drug candidate Annamycin in a highly cost-effective process that may substantially strengthen the drug's commercial viability.

Callisto, in collaboration with Dr. Waldemar Priebe, the discoverer of Annamycin, and Antibioticos, a leading Milan, Italy-based drug manufacturer that is the drug's commercial manufacturer, successfully developed the process to synthesize Annamycin, significantly streamlining the process of producing the drug. Annamycin is a member of the anthracycline family of anti-cancer drugs, which are typically difficult to synthesize cost-effectively.

"We have been able to produce very high purity (greater than 98%) Annamycin, and eliminate the costly use of chromatography for purification purposes," said Dr. Donald Picker, Callisto's Executive Vice President of Research and Development. "This novel chemical route is now clearly capable of the production of 20-40 kg amounts of material, more than enough for the commercial marketplace."

Callisto is developing Annamycin -- a compound with a novel therapeutic profile and with the expectation of reduced cardiotoxicity -- as a new treatment for patients with relapsed leukemia; patients are designated "relapsed" when they fail to respond to therapies. A significant number of leukemia patients stop responding to existing drug therapies, creating a void of treatment options that Callisto is seeking to fill.

"We believe that Annamycin can provide real hope for relapsed leukemia patients," said Dr. Picker. "An essential aspect of any successful drug development effort is to establish a commercially viable means of large-scale production."

Annamycin is planned to begin a clinical trial in adult acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) patients in 4Q 2005. The FDA has designated Annamycin as an "orphan drug," providing specific development and commercial advantages including 7-year marketing exclusivity at time of drug approval.

Callisto Announces Availability of Presentation Outlining Drug Development Pipeline and Market Opportunities
Thursday October 13, 3:30 am ET
Development Programs Include New Drugs to Treat Leukemia and Multiple Myeloma Cancers, and to Fight Biowarfare Threats

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 13, 2005--Callisto Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (AMEX:KAL - News; FWB:CA4), a developer of new drug treatments in the fight against hematological cancers and related diseases, has announced the online availability of an electronic presentation that provides an informative overview of the Company's development pipeline of needed drugs to treat diseases including blood cancers and serious gastrointestinal inflammation, as well as its program to develop drugs to protect against biowarfare agents for use in homeland security applications.

The presentation, available to all interested investors, provides an overview of the multi-million-dollar markets for the Company's drug candidates. These drugs include Atiprimod, which the Company is developing as a treatment for multiple myeloma, a currently incurable blood cancer, and Annamycin, a drug to treat forms of leukemia. "Callisto is developing drugs such as Atiprimod and Annamycin to give new hope to patients with relapsed multiple myeloma and relapsed leukemia," said Dr. Gary S. Jacob, CEO of Callisto. "There are significant numbers of desperately ill patients with these cancers who are not receiving any benefit from the existing drug therapies, creating a very important need for new treatment options that Callisto is working to fill."

Advanced animal-model research on Atiprimod has indicated that it inhibits the growth of multiple myeloma tumors in animals. A report on Atiprimod was published in the July issue of the American Society of Hematology's journal, "Blood," in Volume 106, Number 2, pp. 713-716 (2005.) The article entitled, "A clinically relevant SCID-hu in vivo model of human multiple myeloma," was authored by a team of scientists at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (Boston, MA) and at Callisto Pharmaceuticals, Inc.

Callisto's anti-cancer drug Annamycin is also highlighted in the presentation. It is being developed as a treatment for patients diagnosed with the blood cancers acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL) and acute myelogenous leukemia (AML.) Annamycin, which has a novel therapeutic profile and the expectation of reduced cardiotoxicity, is also being developed as a new treatment for relapsed patients who fail to respond to currently available drug therapies.

The presentation also provides background on the Company's project to develop a superantigen drug platform to create drugs for defense against biowarfare toxins, as well as research and development of a new drug to treat ulcerative colitis, a gastrointestinal inflammation disease.

The presentation is available for viewing at http://www.trilogy-capital.com/tcp/callisto/powerpoint.html.
