Unigene Laboratories, Inc., a biopharmaceutical company, engages in the research, production, and delivery of the small proteins, known as peptides. The company develops recombinant peptide hormone production and analytical technologies for the treatment of osteoporosis and other indications. It offer Salmon Calcitonin, which is a amidated peptide hormone for the treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis, symptomatic paget's disease of bone, and hypercalcemia; Parathyroid Hormone, an 84 amino acid peptide hormone, which is involved in the regulation of calcium and phosphate metabolism in the bones and kidney; and Glucagon Like Peptide–1, a 30 amino acid amidated peptide hormone that stimulates insulin secretion and simultaneously decreases the secretion of glucagons, and used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. The company also provides Leuprolide, a synthetic nonapeptide analog of naturally occurring gonadotropin releasing hormone, which reduces the amount of the hormones testosterone and estrogen in the body; Desmopressin, a synthetic, nonapeptide hormone analog of the natural pituitary hormone 8-arginine vasopressin, used for bedwetting, central diabetes insipidus, testing kidney function, and blood disorders; and PYY(3-36)NH2, a naturally occurring amidated hormone, helps in promoting weight loss in obese individuals due to the modulation of feeding behavior. Unigene was founded in 1980 and is based in Fairfield, New Jersey.

The Group has developed manufacturing technology for producing peptides cost-effectively. It has also patented oral and nasal delivery technology that has been shown to deliver medically useful amounts of various peptides into the bloodstream. UGNE just got approval for a new drug called Fortical in august 05 and price action has been moving up steadily ever since.

Price action is in a solid uptrend with an ascending trenline that has been tested multiple times.

UGNE's uptrend continues on lowered volume. I wouldn't surprised to see another retracement coming up to retest the ascending trend line or near it at least. Or this may also be the beginning of a steeper advance.

Unigene is a biopharmaceutical focused on oral and nasal delivery of peptide drugs in large markets.They have a patented technology in manufacturing peptides with great cost effectiveness and in large quantities. Recent developments:
A. Two new inventions developed with Yale University related to bone growth/repair and protheses for targeted areas.
B. FDA approval August 15 2005 of Fortical-A nasal calcitonin
C. Licensed Foritical U.S. rights to Upsher-Smith for packaging and sales. $10 Million up front. Unigene manufactures and sells the product to Upsher and also receives royalties.
D. Licensed U.S. rights for oral PTH technology to GlaxoSmithKline. $150 million in milestone payments and upfront. $ 8 Million received.
E. Worldwide rights for its calcitonin manufacturing technology to Novartis.
    $18.7 million in milestone payments. $8.2 million received.
F. 3rd Quarter EPS .09cents
   $5.6 mil of Fortical sold to Upsher
   $2 Mil in royalties ( this appears to be for only 3 weeks of the quarter)
   $4 mil in milestone payment for FDA approval of Fortical
G. Three major pharmas, patented technology, real revenues and solid pipeline of new revenue sources make me want to look deeper.
H. I would put up a chart but can't seem to get it done. Someone else can do it. I've looked and I see an uptrend.

It's my understanding that BI Research is out with some Rec today. Vol. is high today. Do your own DD . I'll be interested in what you Bio pros think of this. My horizon is not short term but if these revenue numbers continue this stock is for me. I'll take a position after this post.

I bought a core position today.I have some knowledge of the treatments for Osteoporosis, which is why I was looking at Fortical. Fortical appears to be cheaper and less of an irritant that Miacalcin, Which is a Novartis product with sales in the U.S. over $200 mil. It contains a preservative that is a nasal irritant. But in my opinion the prospects for this company are much larger than one product. I want to see the next quarter than we'll have some history. No one covers this stock. There isn't a Yahoo board. I like the fact that three major pharmas know this company. This story will be told, I'll wait for the brokers and advisors to find this. Hopefully it will be at higher levels. Good hunting. I recommend members look at your posts on the penny board link you provided.
